Ostrich jerky!

I made some jerky out of ground ostrich meat this weekend.

Diagnosis.... DELICOUS!!!

Tastes like beef jerky at first, but you get that "gamey" aftertaste, which is great. Good stuff!!

I've tried bear jerky, deer jerky, moose jerky etc...... but I'm pretty sure I've never tried ostrich jerky

Umm...Artex.....are you coming to the Jordan trip? If so, will you be bringing some with you?? I love jerky, but ostrich? Hmm....I might have to pass on that one...

Ha ha ha! Funny you should mention that, I'll be boar hunting the week before Thanksgiving down in Florida, if I can get the time off work. As you probably guessed, I'll be making jerky out of that also (pending we catch one)! :-)

Poor Things Can't Fly
A few years ago the local supermarket was selling ostrich slimjims. The package raved about how lowfat and highly nutritious and how much better they are for you.

They tasted like crap!

Ostrich is pretty tasty in burger form. I've yet to eat a slim jim I liked, don't imagine they'd be any better made from ostrich.

Nope, they can't fly but they can run about 50 miles an hour. Then if you can catch up to one it'll kick you into next week, <G>.
