The colors are turning

“This past weekend, we headed to Big McGee Lake in the eastern Sierras. The bright yellow leaves were beautiful.

On another thread you asked if I used a filter to make my sky so blue. I don't. The camera I use is a Kodak DX 3900, digital. The sky the day the photos were taken was just that intense.”

“I love the fall.... It's my favourite season. The colour doesn't usually last long around here, though, before the rain washes it out.

It's been a really dry year, for us..... and an unusually cool one, in the Rockies. We had a bit of snow in August, up there, and even more, in Jasper last week!

I saw a news report last night, that said it's been so dry back east, in Quebec and Ontario, that the early colour is actually trees in stress, and their concerned that the maples etc. may actually die off.”

“I'm leading a "Fall Colors Trip" next weekend just south of McGee. I'm hoping the reds and oranges will be out by then.”

“It should be even prettier next weekend. I won't get back to the Sierras until October 12/13. I hope there will still be some color - maybe the higher elevations will have color by then.

On Sunday, I might go check out the Aspen Grove in the San Gorgonio Wilderness near where I live.”

“Plenty of rain for the trees up here in Northern Wisconsin and more in the forecast. Reino will be leading her annual Northern Paddle and Trail Society fall color bike ride on the Bearskin Trail (rails-to-trails path) on Oct. 6, with yours truly as the trusty shuttle driver. Destination is a cafe-ice cream parlor in Minoqua, so it always ends well, no matter the weather.”

“AmyG, I'm pretty close to the 'dacks. Just looked at a site yesterday for NH and they predicted peak would be in a couple of weeks. Leaves started to really change this week...you can see the colors just starting to show in some places.”

First blush of the oaks in the Sandias are showing, aspens aren't quite ready.”

“We're looking at the Daks for mid-October...hopefully that will still be peak.
