I had to postpone my McKinley jaunt two seasons ago for family reasons and I'm starting it up again. I am the guy in charge of preparations and I'm a bit of a fanatic.

My problem is this: I shall be packing all equipment and gear and shipping it out to my buddy on the west coast ahead of time. Now, I can't import meat into the US unless it's tinned and we are Canadian and want transport it to Alaska. Our meat will be freeze dried, we hope.

Now, if I buy all my freeze dried meat in the US can I bring it into Canada and then back into the US?

I know that there are people on this website who know the answer or how I can find it.

Smuggle it?
Reminds me of the story about the guy who went through customs every day with a donkey. The agents seached and searched, but couldn't find any contraband. One day the guy came through without a donkey and the agent said "We know you were smuggling something, but we never found it. What was it?"

"Donkeys!"

It's easier to ask for forgivness, than permission...... smuggle it.

Gremlin, if you send me detailed instructions and a little moola to cover the cost of food and shipping, I'll purchase what you need and ship it to Alaska for you, if that'll make it easier.

My mom used to go into Sarnia, Canada every week to visit relatives when she was little. THey'd buy stuff in Canada, put it under the seats and such in the model t they rode in. One time, when customs asked if they had anything to declare, my mom (4 I think) piped up "yes, but it's all hided!"

Thank you, Father Goose and Artex. Artex, I just might take you up on that. I'll get back to you by e-mail in a month or two.

FatherGoose,
The 'contact us' site at US Customs has no provision for asking this type of question. Can I write a letter?

$h!t!!!!!!!
I'm sorry about that last post. One of my Language Arts kids asked permission to work on the computer in my office and I guess (I know) I hadn't logged off from TT at lunch.

I'm not THAT upset - after all, I was a student once, but he will have to pay. Nothing is free, after all.

It won't happen again (besides, I'm Scots).
