Depends on resolution you're taking your photos at. At 3.1 megs I believe I get about 56 photos with a 64 meg card.

I have a 1.1 MP camera (waaaaaaaaah!!) and a 64 meg Smartmedia card. At the highest quality level I get around 60, I believe.

Definitely depends on quality (resolution)... do you need for just e-mailing friends? Or do you want to make prints? Higher quality = better prints = less photos per card.

So I take it you're shooting Sony, eh?

Davex, with a 64 mg card and my resolution set @ 2.2, it says I should get 84 photos. It will actually be somewhat less. I always shoot at the highest resolution and then download as well as burn them to a CD. If I shoot at the highest resolution I never have to regret that I didn't and missed a superior shot.

With the cheap price at costco for cd+photo development i wont be dropping my slr gear anytime soon.Seems like slr is cheaper, better quality now.

Davex, we just purchased a HP Photosmart 7550 for printing our digital photos. It is beyond description, far better than commercial developers. We have our Canon printer hooked up as well and use it for everything else, thus saving on ink in the 7550. I paid $4.95 for 100 Cd's after rebate which means I can burn a photo CD for 5 cents. Plus you can put hundreds of photos on each CD if you desire. Pretty hard for Costco to beat that price.

Have you been able to figure a cost per print on the HP, Geezr?

Violin, no I haven't. We've experiments so much doing 5x7s and 8x10s, etc that it's really hard to say. Just doing photos doesn't require black ink so you only need to replace the two color cartridges, which I believe were $50.00 when we looked at them. Kodak Premium Gloss photo paper was $30.00/100 sheets. You get 3 4x6 prints/sheet which should work out to be $3.60/36 . . . did that in my head so you might want to crunch those numbers yourself. I just burned 460 photos on one 700 mb CD and still had room for more. I usually only place about 36 so it doesn't take much time to place them in a slideshow. The ones I burned this morning were just a back-up disk.

By the way, the HP 7550 was $369 and came with a 128 mb memory card as part of the sale.

Violin, this is really a rough estimate. We've printed approximately 12 (5x7), 1 (6x8), 2 (8x10) and 40+ (4x6) and the ink monitor shows the two cartridges just off of full. Granted, that's pretty iffy, but the best I can tell you.
Quality is beyond belief and so far no problems. Knock on simulated wood.

Yeah, I've heard good things about them. I feel bad for the photo guy across the street who just paid $12,000 for a high tech printer for digital pics. Thanks for the info.

We took our memory card in to several places and then just picked out the photos we wanted to print. However, we seemed to be paying a lot of money and not getting the quality we thought we should be getting. Actually, Wally World did about as good a job as anybody, but still not the results we wanted. With the HP we can enlarge, crop, add text, enhance, etc and get the quality we were seeking.

All this hyping and watch the rascal breakdown tomorrow. ;-)
