Last second hike “On a whim I've decided to hike the FT this weekend. I'm planning on doing the entire southern section starting tonight at where the trail enters the Forest near Paisely Fire tower and exiting at Juniper springs on Sunday. About 28 miles. Looks like Madman (he's usually a lurker here, speak up Mr. Man!) is joining me. I'll probably be at Paisely after six PM or so and hike until we find a nice spot. Those who want to join up but can't do it tonight can probably pick us up at Alexander Springs if you are there in the morning to mid morning. Ya might have to wait for us though. But I won't go past Alexander tonight. Look for the Tyvek tarp. Ya can't miss it. email me and if I get it soon enough, I or Treebait can pass on my cell #.” 12:51:44 PM 9/27/02 FT “Its a little hot still!” 1:46:50 PM 9/27/02 A Recon of the Recon “Sorry I couldn't catch you out there this weekend. I know it was hot, but I'm sure you had a good time. I have hiked from Clearwater Lake up to Alexander - a nice hike. Camping spots are scarce after the creek up to Alexander - I hope you found a good spot - there's a great lake bed (maybe a lake now) about halfway up that seemed like a good spot. Catch you in November!” 5:36:26 PM 9/28/02 “HPM and Madman made it past Alexander Spgs., stopped under some trees, took a nap, and decided it's too stinking hot. They turned back to Alexander Spgs., and are staying there tonight to loiter in the cool water. Sounds good at that point.” 6:29:03 PM 9/28/02 “Yeap . . .it was just as hot last week when I scoped it out, too. I guess I will keep to the river banks where it is much cooler !!” 7:58:56 PM 9/28/02 “If I stay well hydrated I can have a decent day hiking in the heat, but then I have a tough time getting much sleep in the heat and humidity. How did my parents do it? Big box fans I guess.” 8:18:25 PM 9/28/02
