Accidental Tent Purchase

“I was just recreationally bidding on Ebay (who does that?) and I guess I got a little too wrapped up in a tent that I want - but most definitely do not need. I picked up a new Eureka Solitaire for about $54. It almost completes my barebones lightweight gear list. Hopefully I fit in the dern thing.

I posted the bid about 2 hours before the auction was over, then came back to find the other bidders weren't quite as agressive as I expected.

“we were in severe rain storms at buffalo river last weekend....my friend had a eureka solitaire and it kept him totally dry....can't beat that for the price!!”

“Eureka makes great tents for the price. I had a big dome that finally crapped out after 14 years (longer than my first marriage and as long as both of them put together).

I now have a Eureka Apex for car camping and a lightweight North Face for BPing.

I bought them both accidentally, of course. But then I don't have to explain to Mrs. Coop, do I!”

“i was going to purchase it. it took me a couple weeks to scrape the funds together and when i went back they were sold out.”

“I had an accident last night involving a titanium cookset, (Evernew, nonstick 2 quart and 1 quart pots and lids; $34.93!) and a thermarest chair kit. I called Birch at home to apraise him of the accident and ask advice. He let out a sigh and quietly said, "That'll make six cooksets. Yeah, you'd better buy it". =D”

“Gonzo, It was the only one on the clearance table at REI. The original price was $92.95. I snatched it up like it was gold.

REI had some big shindig last night with free food, door prizes, raffles, and a fall gear preview of sorts.The only way it could have been improved upon was to have a keg or bar. =) All the memebers were sent twenty percent off coupons and an "invitation".”

Big Coop, I can't tell you how hard it is for either of us to get upset about a gear purchase. Birch tends to get annoyed if I come home with more technical clothing and I get perturbed if he buys another pack, but everything else is cool.”
