I don't know what happened to my computer tonight, but the volume just quit working. Does anyone have any suggestions what I can try doing or what may be wrong? I've checked all the plugs and cords and restarted the computer several times.

There's a speaker symbol on the lower right corner or the screen...right click it...it should bring up a box with the volume control...use the arrow to drag the switch up.

Or left click the speaker symbol, and a "open volume controls" box would appear...click on that and you will get another box that shows the volume control for 4 speakers...click and drag the switches up....see if that works.

I've already tried all of that too. The volume is turned up on the keyboard and on the volume control that is in the taskbar.

Try swapping out the speakers, for a different pair, first. It might just be a bad wire, or plug. After that, you might have to look at your sound card.

Play with the wires a little, if one of them is a little loose, you'll hear sound popping in and out a little. Then, if that's the problem, you know what you have to replace. If that's not the problem, unhook all the wires from the back of your computer, and place it on a large empty area of the floor. Touch something metal to get rid of any static electricity you might have in you. Now, take the phone line you had plugged into the modem and plug a phone into it. Do you have a dial tone? Good. Call Radio Shack.
