Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis reportedly made Whisenhunt no offer and told him on Wednesday night that the team would get back to him in a couple of days. Whisenhunt left Oakland after his meeting with Davis, but talks between the two parties continued Thursday morning. Talks broke off when Whisenhunt decided his best option was to stay with the Steelers. Whisenhunt's agent, Eric Metz, left Oakland Thursday morning without any deal being offered and knowing Whisenhunt's decision.” 5:08:20 PM 2/09/06 “The Titans are making a splash in the free agent market. So far they have signed starting LB David Thornton from the Colts, WR David Givens from the Patriots and Center Kevin Mawae from the Jets. Also looking to sign Safety Chris Hope from the Steelers and MLB Greisen from the Giants” 12:16:39 PM 3/14/06 “we lost the edge to arizona. wahhhhhh!!! warner keeps getting colts rb castoffs to play with” 3:07:09 PM 3/14/06 “I think this is going to be the year the Colts go all the way. Wait, no last year is going to be the year they go all the way...or was it 2004? I can't remember!” 3:14:34 PM 3/14/06 “The Irving Cowboys have been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.” 3:17:50 PM 3/14/06 “I think this is going to be the year the Colts go all the way. Wait, no last year is going to be the year they go all the way...or was it 2004? I can't remember!” well it sure ain't the bengals i wish the colts would have just let harrison go last year so we could keep edge...good receivers are a dime a dozen” 6:54:53 AM 3/15/06 “"well it sure ain't the bengals" Nobody ever expects the inquisition!” 7:07:19 AM 3/15/06 “Hey, T.O. is up for grabs. Step right up.” 7:47:01 AM 3/15/06 “i hate to sound like im dogging marvelous harrison, but i more or less agree with thriftyhiker. i wont say hes a dime a dozen, hes more than just a good receiver. hes one of the all time greats. but right now, the edge is more valuable to the colts than marv, if for no other reason than he has a few years more left in him than marv. but its a really close call. i wouldnt want to have to make that decision. i think they could pay manning a little less so they could keep all their key players” 2:54:33 PM 3/15/06 “welcome to Cap Hell =) You knew the time was coming, sit back and watch it unfold before your eyes.” 3:12:47 PM 3/15/06 “I would keep James over Harrison, as well. Maybe they have their eye on someone in the draft, though. Who knows?” 3:18:57 PM 3/15/06 “Titans just signed another free agent former Steelers safety Chris Hope” 3:21:57 PM 3/15/06 “no i didn't mean to say harrison was dime a dozen but for what we pay him we could get a couple decent receivers and with the colts throwing game we don't really need a great receiver just a handful of good ones manning's salary doesn't effect the cap does it?...he's a franchise player right? maybe i'm wrong” 3:31:13 PM 3/15/06 “yeah his salary effects the cap. The top 51 players salary goes against the cap. That is why the Colts are losing players. they can't afford to sign them to new contracts. Just wait till you have a Blue monday where you have to cut/release 6 starters because you are over the cap. Titans had to do that last yr. We are finally getting rid of the dead money (money that goes against the cap even when the player doesn't play for you anymore) last edited: 3/15/06 3:42:33 PM” 3:36:22 PM 3/15/06 “This yr McNair will count 23 million dollars against the cap if he stays. If we cut or relase him he will only count 13 million dollars against this yrs cap. Only way that 23 million goes down is if he redo's his contract over a few yrs. Personally I hope we cut him. If we do this it will be his last yr to count anything against the cap...woooohooo” 3:45:21 PM 3/15/06 “The Cowboys released Keeshawn yesterday. Making room for TO?” 4:08:11 PM 3/15/06 “Colts are D-O-N-E Done. They had their chance and they failed miserably. Peyton always chokes in the big games. Now he's gonna lose all his weapons to the cap. Whether Mcnair will return hinges on who we draft. I really hope we don't choose Young. Too many issues. New Orleans just signed Brees, so there is hope that Leinert may be around at #3. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.” 8:34:18 PM 3/15/06 “"Colts are D-O-N-E Done. They had their chance and they failed miserably. Peyton always chokes in the big games. Now he's gonna lose all his weapons to the cap." a year ago, those would have been fighting words. now, i cant help but agree 100%. the edge just left for arizona. the bleeding has begun.” 5:01:19 PM 3/16/06 “Ever notice that Holmgren was never fined by the NFL for his criticism of the Super Bowl officiating ? And he stepped down from the competition committee. Very interesting.” 9:33:04 PM 3/16/06 “T.O. out; Jeff Garcia in ... ain't life strange?” 7:34:56 AM 3/17/06 “I'd like to see the Titans swap Mc Nair for Vince Young. The Cowboys off-season is a train wreck so far - T.O. would be icing on the cake. XL is right: 0 quarterbacks = mathematically eliminated.” 7:44:03 AM 3/17/06 “Must admit the truth here...I kinda have a small dislike for Jerry Jones. See one of my family's friends in church(when I was growing up) was a man by the name of Tom Landry. I watch what is happening to the team he built and I get sick. About the only team with any "no nonsense" coaching is the Steelers...” 7:50:33 AM 3/17/06 “I'd like to see the Titans swap Mc Nair for Vince Young. toejam 7:44:03 AM 3/17/06 no way do I want Young as QB, he is way over rated. If his test scores are true does he even have the smarts to run Chow's offense. Young is more of a running QB and we saw what happened to Mcnair when he ran. Either Leinart or Cutler is the way to go” 7:54:26 AM 3/17/06 “I used to hate Tom Landry. But when he was let go, I hated that even more.” 10:07:05 AM 3/17/06 “Geo, Tom was pretty much what you saw, pretty private man, but very dedicated to what he believed.” 10:20:56 AM 3/17/06 “i see usa is STILL whinging about the peacocks losing” 4:20:50 PM 3/17/06 gone, gone, gone..... “Lions: Harrington 'not with us' By TOM KRISHER ASSOCIATED PRESS March 20, 2006 The Detroit Lions are parting ways with Joey Harrington after four turbulent seasons in which the former third overall draft pick went from franchise savior to fans’ scourge. Although he declined to say whether Harrington had been released, coach Rod Marinelli told reporters Monday: “We’ve made a decision to move on.” “At this moment, he’s not with us,” Marinelli said. “That’s been my decision.” A message seeking comment was left Monday with David Dunn, Harrington’s agent. Taking Harrington’s spot under center most likely will be Jon Kitna or Josh McCown. The two former NFL starters are expected to battle for the top quarterbacking job in Detroit. The Lions announced McCown’s signing over the weekend and were expected to announce Kitna’s this week. The Lions already have under contract former Tampa Bay and Arizona starter Shaun King and second-year man Dan Orlovsky. The 65-year-old commissioner has led the league since 1989, when he succeeded Pete Rozelle, and had recently signed a two-year contract extension to complete the television and labor deals. He finally got that done 12 days ago, finishing the most arduous labor negotiations since the league and union agreed on a free agency-salary cap deal in 1992. ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported on March 9 that Tagliabue was expected to exercise a clause in his contract with league owners in which he becomes a "senior executive" consultant with a significant compensation package. Tagliabue and the NFL did not comment at the time. Mortensen reported that the leading candidate to replace him is Roger Goodell, the league's executive vice president and chief operating officer. Goodell has worked side by side with Tagliabue on numerous issues, ranging from franchise stability, new stadium construction, TV contract negotiations and the most recent collective bargaining agreement, in which he was an active participant. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.” 11:29:59 AM 3/20/06 “I hope the Dullest Cowpies fans enjoy the first season with T.O. as much as we enjoyed our first season with him in Philly. After that, it will be back to the drawing boards.” 11:42:10 AM 3/20/06 “http://proxy.espn.go.com/nfl/fa good place to see where a free agent has signed or is still available” 9:16:44 AM 3/21/06 “Yeah, Philly really made the most of T.O.'s talent.” 9:18:20 AM 3/21/06 “So the Lions are making up for quality with quantity? As they say, if you have four quarterbacks, you really have none. Let me be the first to say... Bench Kitna!” 9:19:38 AM 3/21/06 “The Lions always value quantity over quality: what's better than one mediocre quarterback? 3 mediocre quarterbacks! What's better than one first round draft pick wide receiver? 3 first round draft pick wide receivers! I'm just happy to learn this early that I have a lot of free Sundays this fall because there's no sense in watching the Lions. last edited: 3/21/06 9:55:48 AM” 9:51:28 AM 3/21/06 “The Lions problem is Matt Millen thinks he's the field general. Ya gotta have a sense of humor to be a Cowboy fan this year. It will be really funny if they win. yuk yuk” 8:49:30 PM 3/21/06 “conde rice has always said that she would be interested in the comm. job- but right now she would be unable to take the position because she wants to stay on with the president as long as he needs her there.does she not know that in 2 years bush will be history?” 4:46:42 AM 3/23/06 “and that has what to do with football?” 4:50:26 AM 3/23/06 “It does somewhat” 5:30:07 AM 3/23/06 “I have heard that Rice was interested in the Commish job also. I don't know what experience she has but then again look at her now. Whoever replaces the current commish has some tough shoes to fill. He has done a good job” 8:26:07 AM 3/23/06 “Colt's pick up Adam Vinatieri...the era of Vandersuck is finally over!!!” 10:57:15 AM 3/23/06 “Thrifty, your post should have said "Mr Clutch is signed, Mr Accurate (except when big game on line) is cut"” 11:13:52 AM 3/23/06 “Vanderjagt to the Cowboys?” 11:14:30 AM 3/23/06 “they can send him back to canada for all i care” 11:16:32 AM 3/23/06 “The Steelers are still world champions. Seattle fans still weep into their pillows at night.” 2:13:37 PM 3/23/06 “vanderjagt has actually made a lot of clutch kicks in his career. even michael jordan has missed potentially winning baskets at the end of games” 3:27:07 PM 3/23/06 “there's no doubt that vandersuck is a good kicker, i mean come on, he's got the best all time percentage, but i just can't stand the dude...it's funny, the only player we have(had) with a bad attitude was a white dude from canada” 3:32:25 PM 3/23/06 “hes kept us in a lot of games when the offense has bogged down short of the goal line” 3:39:16 PM 3/23/06 Hines Ward is Great! “Born in Seoul to an African-American father and a Korean mother, Ward was suddenly being hailed as a Great Korean Hero. And on April 2, this hero will head home, embarking on a 10-day tour of South Korea—his first visit since childhood. For 31-year-old Hines Ward, the journey to Super Bowl stardom and back to the Korean peninsula has been as arduous as his lifelong struggle to accept his Korean identity. But no amount of self-doubt, racism, teasing from classmates, shame or hungry opponents on the football field has been able to stop Ward in his quest. Now, after eight frustrating years of falling inches short of the goal line with the Steelers and 30 years of struggling to come to peace with who he is, the Super Bowl MVP has the world at his fingertips. Thanks to his Super Bowl success, the biracial Ward has also become a catalyst for debate over the contentious issue of racial discrimination in South Korea. Many hope that during his visit, he will be able to spark change in a country where tens of thousands of biracial citizens still encounter prejudice all too frequently. ![]() http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11959472/site/newsweek/” 2:32:25 PM 3/25/06 “"31-year-old Hines Ward... and 30 years of struggling to come to peace with who he is" hes been struggling with his racial identity since he was 1? wow. i wasnt that socially conscious until i was at least 2! he musta been a real interesting kid in daycare. the other kids were playing with their blocks and their dollys while he was reciting kings "i have a dream" speech and organizing the million baby march on washington last edited: 3/25/06 2:45:56 PM” 2:40:30 PM 3/25/06 “oh man i crack me up :-D” 2:47:21 PM 3/25/06 “HA HA HA!!! I like his honesty. Most people would not be so honest about something like that.” 2:53:44 PM 3/25/06 Jump to Page << prev
