FYI-I'm leading a trip on the Fiery Gizzard Trail Nov. 2-3. Hiking the Dog Hole Trail to Raven Point and on to Foster Falls day two. Email me at Adelicia1@aol.com if interested.

Update-
Since campfires are not allowed at Raven Point campsite, I've taken a vote among folks who are going on this trip and so far it looks like the majority of folks want to stay at Small Wilds on Sat. night. So...we will start at the Grundy Co. trailhead and hike the Dog Hole trail and continue on to Small Wilds and spend Sat. night there. Sun. we will hike out on the Foster Falls side.

What's the deal with Katibug always mentioning that she's "leading a trip" or "leading a hike"?

Is it some kind of ego trip?

Is it necessary to always say "I'm leading a hike" when posting a trip?

Why not say "some friends and I are going hiking and you're welcome to come along"?

Is she more qualified to be a leader than other hikers?

Has she ever been a follower?

What exactly does she do as a leader on these hikes?

Are there people out there that cannot follow a trail and identify a few trees and flowers?

Do hikers need leaders?

Just how complicated are these hikes?

I've hiked with katibug several times. She's actually a pretty good leader of hikes. When I started hiking, I didn't know squat about backpacking. didn't know where to go or if there were other people that went or any hiking clubs and i certainly didn't know about TT. She takes the effort and time to research places to go and things to see. She posts in local organazations about hikes that she's thought of and invites others to join her. If she didn't care about doing that, I wouldn't be typing this right now. I don't know much about trees and greenery in the woods. She's pretty knowledgable when it comes to stuff like that. I haven't got poison ivy one time.

Her hikes are organized by her but there are no rules. She says here is where we start and here's where we are going"we'll see you when I get there". I hike ahead. You don't have stay with the group. It's not like it's a 2nd grade field trip. We have a blast on these hikes. Don't knock it until you've tried it!!!

As if that isn't enough stuff. I also wouldn't of met all the fine folks from TT or any of the Michigan Mountaineers who are dear friends.

SO BACK OFF KATIBUG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AllWoman-
FYI-I am the Outings Chair for the Sierra Club in Middle Tennessee. I lead backpacking trips 2-3 weekends out of the month that are sponsored by the Sierra Club. I have been an avid backpacker for over 15 years and have organized trips for several years. Too bad you seem offended at my style. I don't care what you think of me, and since we have never met, you are really not giving me the benefit of the doubt. The folks who hike with me have a lot of fun. They keep registering for my outings, so I must be doing something right and have something positive to offer!

The plan is to be at the parking lot by 9 a.m. We will have to get some cars moved over to the Foster Falls side of the trail, so I expect we will get on the trail by 9:30 a.m. Since we have a long hike and it gets dark around 5:30p.m., I want us to get on the trail ASAP so that we can get to the campsite well before dark.

AllWoman-
I am proud to be able to facilitate outings for folks who prefer to hike with a group. There have been several people to come out on the trips that I have put together whom would not have otherwise gone on a backpacking trip. My sole purpose of leading trips is to provide a medium to others in which to explore nature and have fun in the outdoors. Too bad you seem to be threatened by the likes of me. I challenge you to do what I do. By the way, with your attitude, if I have hiked with you before I hope that you stay away from the trips that I lead. We don't need negativity in our group.

Hey Old Fart...er, I mean Father Goose
I am trying to join you folks..but I just learned that our team made the playoffs. Don't know when / where yet. If it's an early game; I will try to meet you guys in camp from the short side (Small Wilds). Won't be long till football season is over and hiking season begins.

Still searching.

yes she is
she holds a steady 2 to 2.5 mile an hour pace over a 6 to 8 hour day in the hot summer, this will be a easy trip. We won't be staying overnight on Saturday just passing though. She's been all over s.c.r.a and on the a.t. We have been up there alot going in from both ends, just never been though.

Father Goose
thank you for the offer. I think we will be camping at Father Adams Friday night as it will be a little cool that night and there is plenty of firewood there. If you happen to come up and see our little dodge colt station wagon there and us near-by, then we would gladly accept a ride. Would be glad to buy you and the mother goose a treat at the bakery in Tracy. If you don't make it we will be driving back over to the other side and just do a nice loop. Please wear bright clothes on the trail as Juvenile hunting season will be opening on Saturday.
We all will be crossing on private property during the day.

The plan is to be on the trail by 9:30 a.m. We are leaving Nashville at 7:00 a.m. Sharp! Between all of us, we should be able to get WD and daughter to wherever you wish to be! The hunting season concerns me. I am going to call the ranger office in the morning to check on that. I'd hate for one of us to get shot!

Hunting Season
I called the ranger station today and found out that bow hunting starts Sat. The ranger I talked to said that folks rarely hunt on the Fiery Gizzard Trail because they like hunting in Savage Gulf better. He also said that they are out of the woods before mid morning. I expect it will be about noon before we get to the private property area of the trail, so I think we will be in good shape.

Father Goose and Mother are bringing the Daughter of a coworker to the Firey Gizzard tonight...between what I loaned her and the $400.00 her mom spent for the rest, she should be in fair shape equipment wise. Lauren is fit, and will handle the trip physically, but is a novice Backpacker...Please be sure to teach her all you can this trip...I refitted my old Pinnacle Backpack to her but it will probably need tweaking, and she may need help setting up the tent.

P.S...Thanks!
