I drove into Montreal to see Ed Viesturs at the Université de Montréal and he was awesome. During the question period following the slide show, Mr. Viesturs informed ud that Göran Kopp had died two days earlier - either Sunday or Monday, I guess.

Mr. Viesturs said that he didn't have all the details, but Kropp was rock climbing near Seattle and came off the face. Apparently his pro detached and he cratered. Even Viesturs was lost for words; I mean, he bikes from Sweden to Nepal, being attacked several times, soloes Everest two days before the killer storm and bikes back to Sweden. He was planning a solo sail to antarctica and walk to the South Pole and back and he dies in a dumb-ass rock climbing accident. Makes one wonder.

Wow, he was the guy who ran around dragging tires to train...there was a great article on him in NGA. Too bad. Goes to show, no matter what the difficulty level, one still has to be cautious. That really sucks.

I hate to see someone with balls like that leave us. It sounds like if he was to go, it least it was doing something he loved.

It also reminds me, along with Geobeets recent misfortune and my recent accident, that we have got to play it safe. What we do is dangerous, let's try to be as cautious as Mr. Kropp was.

Sharing the sadness. :-(

I guess his work on earth was done. He obviously touched a lot of people.

Last week I had to go to the Dr to get some prescriptions refilled. They don't like calling them in anymore. Well while I was there he noticed it was time for the old prostrate exam..thrill :(

He asked me if I had eaten that morning and I said yes so I had to go back a few days later to get some blood drawn for the yearly test.

Well today I get a call from the nurse telling me I need to come back in and get some more blood work done. My cholesterol was a little high not much but they want to check some other things out.

I asked her what but she didn't know or didn't want to tell me. So I made an appointment to go back in next Wed to see him and get more blood work done.

Bad thing about all of this I get to worry all weekend and part of next week about it.

geesh why couldn't she have called Monday

I know it sounds frightening, but try to relax. If it is something serious, you probably caught it early.

A friend of mine in his mid-70s is just finishing up radiation treatment for prostate cancer. His prognosis is excellent, and the treatment was not at all harsh on him.

Oh yes, nothing worse than calling in to get the results of a test and the receptionist telling you that the doctor wants to see you.

In my case, a week and a half later the doctor asked me why I was there.

Do you wonder why there are malpractice suits?

I don't think it is the prostrate because he said that felt fine. I do worry about that though since my dad died from it.

Ewker, I'm with bunny. Talk to the doctor and make him tell you why he wants more blood tests.

With my health coverage, you can e-mail the doctor, but there is no way the receptionist or nurse will let you talk to her. They want you to speak with the nurse, and she will answer questions or get back to you.

You deserve an answer to your question, and if they say they are justing checking things to make sure everything is okay, ask exactly what are you looking for and why do you think you need to do that.

There is no need for you to have a bad weekend.

Grem, for all it\'s worth, I have experienced a phone call like that. It was a bit ambiguous and it was followed by a short waiting period to get the specifics. You never know, though. Mine turned out to be nothing to worry about. Yours may be of a similar nature. Good luck, Doug. And try not to worry.

"I dont' get no respect. I was in the Doctor's waiting room. The Proctologist came in to see me and stuck his finger in my mouth." Rodney Dangerfield (I hope you're getting some respect upstairs Rodney).

Anyway, good luck Ewker and don't take it too seriously. Worrying won't help nuthin. Best guess is they didn't get something right and need a re-do.

I went back to the Dr today. Turns out it was my cholestrol after all.
We compared it to my cholestrol levels from last yr and it has risen quite a bit. It seems my LDL (bad) cholestrol was to high.

Looks like I have been enjoying the single life to much. Time to get back to the gym and start eating right again.

I go back in 3 months for a follow-up to see how I am doing.

Bad News

Well, in the tradition of my birthdays always being terrible...today I found out that my boss has been let go and that I may or may not have a job in about two/three weeks. The really bad part about this is that I have a crazy work/school schedule because my boss allows me to leave in the middle of the day to go to school three days out of the week. So what am I going to do now?

I don't want to have to quit school.

Diet and excersize will only help so much, then it's hereditary. I've been taking 1 gram of Niacin twicw a day and it helped drop mine quite a bit. I refuse to take the cholesterol drugs...at least for now.

Well, MarkO, one can gamble that they will survive until then, building up fatty deposits in their arteries and then "Poof"! Take a shot, fat gone.

That is, if the drug works.........and it doesn't have terrible side effects.........and funding doesn't get cut..........

Maybe you guys can develope a better butt plug to stop the uncontrollable diarhea.

Isn't that one of the common side effects of these "miracle drugs"?

I am not a big oatmeal eater. I do eat cereal for breakfast. I just bought that nasty tasting skim milk. I hate that stuff. I grew up on it as a kid. I went to the store last night to buy some food. I found out everything I like is bad for me :(

do you realize how many products has cholestrol in it...geesh is there anything you can eat.

I am off to search the net for non to low cholestrol foods that I am allowed to eat.

I did read one thing in the material the Dr gave me but it doesn't make sense.

It says fish (salmon, mackerel and sardines) is good for lowering you cholestrol. Then in another section it tells you to avoid fish (sardines).

oh well I have 3 months to get my weight(again) and cholestrol lower.
