I've seen him at the WOMAD festival... awesome. My friend saw his past few tours and loved every show. I don't know if you've seen the HBO or Showtime concert of his but it was really good. I say GO GO GO

Hmmm... Let's see if I can remember....

I saw him in '83, as an opener for Bowie (The first concert in BC Place Stadium) He blew Bowie off the stage!!

I saw his again, in 93 (in the old Vancouver Coliseum), from row 2, and it was, without a doubt, the best concert I have seen in my life. I guess that was the 'US Album' tour.

GET AS CLOSE AS YOU CAN !! You won't regret spending the extra dough.

Geezr, I'm telling Weezr!

And Hodge, whadda' fa', you saw Bowie live? That kicks my ass. (I was only 4 in '83 though, so I doubt I could have appreciated the show.)

Lee, I say just do it. I think he's pretty good and if it is anything like my TOOL experience (I'm trying to mention it as much as possible to annoy a few people), it will be well worth it.

I saw Peter Gabriel live once- His live shows are amazing- Have you listened to the live double album? Even he says the version of "in your eyes" that's on there is the way it's meant to sound- LIVE. On the other hand, if you want to give me the money, I put on a hell of a show myself.

You guys don't know what old is. I saw the Alan Freed show in Lewiston, Me. in 1958. Then when I got much older I saw Cream's first show in the US...Boston in Kenmore Square in 1967. Forget the name of the place.

I dunno. Gabriel's new stuff is supposed to be pretty good. It really depends on what the money means to you. If you are socking away money, go. If you are having to hold off paying bills until you can cover them - don't go. I'd rather watch a concert video than sit in really crummy seats - I'd say go for the good seats or stay home.

I haven't seen Gabriel for a long time. I did see him once in fairly small club (the Paradise in Boston) shortly after Genesis broke up and he was great. He passed the mike to us at one point to sing (read "butcher") a line from a song of his.

I had to work when Gabriel tickets went on sale for an upcoming show in my town. By the time I had a chance to buy, all the tickets left were pretty crummy so I passed it up.

Mtnmaster2003, you saw Cream's first US show? Holy #&%!$! I need to get together w/ a few of you guys and hear all about these amazing concerts! Have any of you seen Led Zeppelin or the Beatles? My friend's mom saw The Doors in L.A. when she was a teeny-bopper. She was right up at the stage and Jim spit on her! Wow!

Well . . .thanks for the input .. ...the decision is in.

The problem isn't the money per se. The money is there. The problem is the cost/benefit analysis.

Dinner $100 -$150 (yes, could eat cheaper than this . . but what's the fun in that??!), babysitter $30, show $234 . . .total damage $360 at a minimum.

For what is sort of a "fun thought", a "whimsical idea" as opposed to a "must have" . . .my wife and I decided that the cost/benefit line would be crossed . . .so

I won't be going.

The logical practical side of me is sure that its a good decision . . .

Lee - You can always get the DVD..... and another player, too, for that much dough.

Personally, I think the show would be worth every penny. I can think of a few things, that I've spent that much on, that probably wouldn't come close to the entertainment value.

NG< Hodge, and Pedxing

Thanks for making this sooooooo much easier!

I agree with you Hodge . . .I would enjoy the $360 spent this way a lot more than in more "practical" ways . . . .

maybe I'll look at that website again and see what left!

ps: Pedxing . . if I had been moving more quickly, and for my money could get a truly good seat (on the floor, or at least in the realm of "close") then I wouldn't have gone through this deliberation process.

I have seen Clapton twice at the Hartford Civic center, once from nosebleed seats and once from a corporate skybox. I have a very hard time focusing on spotlighted figures in a dark arena. I leave feeling like I never really saw them or could figure out what they looked like in person. Sort of . . .detached.

On the other hand, I won tickets to a Bob Seger (yes, Bob Seger) show about 9 years ago. Saw him from the 7th row on the floor. It was great. I felt much more connected to the show.

That would be my problem dropping bucks for a show that i might very well feel discconected from.

But, Lee, you can also consider that sometimes being right there on the floor, near the stage does even greater hearing damage. My ears were ringing from TOOL, but at the Smashing Pumpkins, I sat in the 7th row on the floor and got the crap blasted outta' my ears. I couldn't hear for days. Just trying to help you decide. I guess Gabriel won't be that hard core, but you know what I'm saying.

The only show that I've seen come close to Gabriel, for tech and sound, was U2..... oh, and Pink Floyd. At Gabriel's Us show, you could've heard a pin drop on stage

I got my tickets for the 12/15/02 show at the HP Pavillion in San Jose. I could have gotten 9th row seats on the floor for $185 a pop, but I settled for 12th row, lower level seats for $85.

The 1st time I saw Peter Gabriel live was 6/1980 at a small venue (San Jose Civic Auditorium). That show was great. The 2nd time was 12/1986 at the Oakland Arena.

If you really like Peter Gabriel/Genesis music, I would suggest getting the 4 CD box set, Genesis archives. It contains the complete ”The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway” live As well as “Supper’s Ready”.

I know what I like, and I like what I know

NG ....

by my calculations . . .if Newergirl was to have a child, and Newergirl's child was to have a child both at the approximate ages you and your Mom had children . . your Mom could be a GREAT-GREAT grandma at age 81 . . .and you of course would therefore be a GREAT grandma at age +/-61.

Cool.

I remember seeing promos for the Lamb tour. I didn't know who the heck they were at the time (and I was just a kid in school). A few years later I was wishing I had gone.

NewGirl: I wish I could claim to have seen the Beatles, Led Zeppelin or the Doors. I saw George Harrison perform, and I saw John Lennon and the Plastic Ono band perform free in Central Park (at a Peace Rally), but AmyG met George Harrison.

I've heard a few tracks, from Up, but haven't actually had a chance to unwrap the CD yet. $13cdn on sale, so since I have everything else he's done..... why not... he he he

Anyhow, I always find his albums take a couple of 'run throughs'. His music doesn't seem to come to me right of the bat, necessarily. Usually that's a good thing. It means it's not another commercialized piece of radiowave crap, falling off of the music industry treadmill

Good Calculating Lee!
My own great-grandmother was alive long enough to see Newergirl's first six months of life. So, for awhile there were 5 generations of women alive at one time in my family. My own grandmother became Newergirl's great-grandmother at age 62. We all had our first babies by the time we were 22. (Personally, I hope Newergirl goes out and sees the world first.)
