“ouch, grem! i broke my fibula (leg) and shattered part of my knee when i was hit by a car when i was 14... now it's starting to really bother me, especially while hiking.

i called my family dr. and asked what their policy is on getting referrals to an orthopedic dr. with my new insurance. they said that i have to see the family dr. first and let them take a look and then they will refer me and give me the referral. BS!!!!

so i got an appointment with my family dr. next Wednesday (that was the soonest).”

“Sorry to hear about the leg Scorch. I had the same problem you are having with insurance. Knee Doc is different insurance and needs referal from regular doc before he can clean out the gravy.

The surgery got pushed back 1 month, but it all worked out good.

You think you are going to good for the Hawk trip in OCT?”

“Scorchy.......you can still come to TC4 and shuttle in.....some of us do and are not ashamed!!!...pack really light!!!...only 1-1/2 miles in....I pulled a muscle in my back a few weeks ago and I am nursing it.....hope to have it in shape by the time Oct comes....hang in there.....remember sugar and caffine make pain worse......

“I at least broke my ankle respectably, while hiking, and scored a helicopter ride to boot! Broke it in March 2003, and was back in the Grand Canyon in October. It's still stiff, and isn't quite as flexible as the other, but I can hike as many miles as before, and gets me where I want to go. perhaps a bit slower.

“No, Cindy Lu. The fibula is just the little bone and it broke cleanly just above the heel bone and they didn't even have to put it back in place.

I'm pretty lucky.

The hardest part, aside from the limited mobility is the horrendous razzing I'm getting from my boss, my colleagues and my students. This is the country (real country) and I fell off my good friend's deck - who is also my Vice Head at school while celebrating his birthday.

His two sons have graduared, but his daughter is still there. She probably didn't say anything, but everyone at the local hospital knows me and if I didn't teach them, I taught their kids or siblings.

My ego will need physio. Luckily, the physiotherapist is a former student and will be coaching my girls' rugby team this year.

I saw her and the other girls of my club's Senior Women's team on Sunday at the shopping centre when I went to the pharmacy to get a shower hose. They were setting up the rides for the Finals that afternoon. I apologised for not being able to run touch for them, but they were too busy laughing at me to say much.

Sigh!”

Actually, my wife's MS meds and birth control meds were interacting to give her migraines. Her drs. (multiple) want to get her off birth control stuff so I did this for her health.”

“I guess I'm back on this list again. Went to the doc's yesterday. My cellulitis has continued to be a problem. I'm back on Keflex, and the area is heavily bandaged. I go back to see here in 10 days and will probably end up seeing a wound specialist.

In the meantime, if it doesn't improve in the next 24 hours, I will have to head back to the hospital.”

the x ray showed a healed fibula fracture and tibia stress fracture, but nothing new.... i gotta get referred to an ortho beccause they think it may be muscular.

picking up the referral sometime after tuesday.

“it was 10 years ago that i was hit, so it wasn't recent or anything.. just starting to act up now.”

“I went to my doctor's last night with the latest eruption on my leg. She tells me what is going on now is not cellulitis, since there is no infection involved, but tender skin erupting as though it was a burn. She called it venostasis and prescribed a cream that should help.

The left knee X-ray report came back. I have arthritis in about four spots in and around the knee and a couple or three bone spurs. I see the orthopedist about that on Tuesday; hopefully something can be done to help.

At least I know what I'm dealing with.
