Sorry you are still on IR. One thing I did for exercise when I couldn't run was joined a gym and started weight training, which I have now continued even though I can run. One machine they hand was essentially a hand operated bicycle - I called it the arm bike; they had some fancy name for it. I felt like it was pretty good exercise, so if you belong to a gym or somehow have access to an arm bike, it might be worth a try....” 12:24:06 PM 11/05/04 “I'm hoping they clear me to exercise when I see the orthopedist on Tuesday. If that will help, I will work through the pain. The venostasis will improve with excercise, according to a website I found. I may slip out for short walks this weekend.” 4:03:56 PM 11/05/04 “Get well soon Geo sorry to hear about your injury. I'm recovering well from the back surgery. Last check went awesome. My surgeon was actually excited about how well my spine is alligned and healing. I'm walking 3-4 miles now and hope to be back on the trail by March” 5:53:35 PM 11/05/04 “Best to all of you on the IR List. I think I can be removed now. LOL!!!!” 11:15:20 PM 11/05/04 “Thank god I am off this list.” 2:43:49 PM 11/06/04 “I 'm off now too :)” 3:13:20 PM 11/06/04 “Ice Tea, reporting for duty, sir...the comander says my tour should last about a week and a half” 4:18:05 PM 11/06/04 “I got my MRI tonight finally. Got the films and everything, I just have to set up an appointment for my ortho to read the results. Keep your fingers crossed!” 8:07:34 PM 1/03/05 “GOOD LUCK Scorchfire!!! Hope its nothing that needs major work done!” 8:55:00 PM 1/03/05 “Good luck. Each of my legs now has its own doc. I have to stop and think which office I'm in so I know which pant leg to roll up.” 9:11:32 PM 1/03/05 “Don't know the whole story.... but I know from personal experience that entropy sucks the big one. I was out of commission 2 of the last 4 years. May the Force be with you --- <G>” 11:58:47 PM 1/03/05 “and also with you” 1:10:01 AM 1/04/05 “We try.... %^ )” 1:13:12 AM 1/04/05 “Good luck with this Scorch. Hopefully, it'll just heal on its own without surgery.” 5:09:03 AM 1/04/05 “thanks, rich. that's what i'm hoping for.” 6:28:15 AM 1/04/05 “Any kind of surgery is a big drain on energy and the rehab afterward drags on for weeks and seems just as bad.” 6:33:17 AM 1/04/05 Scorch... “Aren't those MRIs weird?! Hope it's a simple matter of waiting (although that's pretty hard too) for things to heal on their own. Be good and follow orders (Dr's that is).” 7:12:51 AM 1/04/05 “Good luck, scorchmeister!! MRI, huh? Yeah, I had one once. Almost had to claw my way outta that thing, 'till the valium took hold. Then I almost went to sleep. How'd it go for you? Come to think of it, my films are actually sitting in my closet. Maybe there's a way I can scan and post..... last edited: 1/04/05 8:17:30 AM” 8:16:20 AM 1/04/05 “Yea, those MRI things sure are weird. I only went in the tube from my chest down, so my head was sticking out of the tube otherwise I probably would have freaked out!” 9:29:43 AM 1/04/05 “good luck Sweetums - I've gone through rehab twice for my knees - sucked both times but no surgery yet” 9:48:55 AM 1/04/05 “Hey, does stubbing your toe (very sore now!) and suddenly developing a weird pain in my right hip count as an injury? I have no idea what I did to mess up my right hip! I must have injured it somehow while running back to a store where I accidentally left some concert tickets..... I stubbed my toe really bad the other day, though and have been limping about. No tight shoes for me! *** hee hee... just whining because I'm back to work today! ***” 10:15:27 AM 1/04/05 “maybe the shockwave travelled up your leg from the toe to the hip?” 5:59:39 PM 1/04/05 “Pinkbubelz, you're probably walking differently because of the stubbed toe. It's not unusual to have knee, hip or back pain with an "unrelated" injury further down your body which makes you walk differently. I had tendon problems in one foot and it caused my back to hurt in the way I walked to compensate for the foot problem.” 6:10:33 PM 1/04/05 “Ski... that makes sense...Unfortunately, the leg thing happened on the 30th. I don't know what I did--but the pain is "deep" in the muscle of my glutes and ham string.... :-( I walked around all day without incident, then after dinner, and after the frantic run down the street to retreive my tickets, I felt the pain... I'm thinking that perhaps I did something when I was running across the street (maybe hyperextended my leg or something?) It feels like it's in my hip joint.... Never felt this kind of pain before! I stubbed my toe yesterday--it really sucks because the tip of my pinky toe is sore now....” 6:26:32 PM 1/04/05 “Darn it, I seem to have re-injured my leg--I was running to class last night and then the pain came back-- could hardly sit for the 3 hours of class... Going to the doctor this afternoon to see what the heck I've done!” 11:08:07 AM 2/01/05 “Good luck. I should be back here, but I'm holding off.” 11:10:15 AM 2/01/05 “Crap. I went to the doctor yesterday, his verdict is that I have "popped" something in my hamstring and I have to rest for the next month, so that I don't re-injure it! GRRRR...!! So, I guess snowshoeing is out of the question for a few weeks!!! Plus, my left knee is still bugging me-- he told me that walking Down stairs is very stressful on the knee... (I didn't realize-- I've been occasionally walking down 4 flights of stairs just to get extra "walking time" in...) Does anyone know of any other type of exercise I could do (which won't aggravate my injuries?) Would walking in water help or hinder?” 10:45:03 AM 2/02/05 “Pilates is really non impact but seems like the hamstring is pretty important to all but upper body workouts. You'd definately be puting more resistance on it walking in water.” 10:47:56 AM 2/02/05 “Pinkbubelz- exercise cycling is the best non impact exercise for your legs. My uncle has had a lot of knee and reconstructive surgeries on his legs for years, and it's the exercise his doctors recommend.” 10:51:43 AM 2/02/05 “wouldn't cycling put more stress on the whole leg-- since you have to pedal with pretty much the whole leg? I have one of those "elliptical riders", vs. an exercise cycling. I think I'm going to have to just concentrate on upper body workouts for now... Maybe my exercise ball will help? I usually sit on it, as I've heard it is good exercise for you core... For the moment, I think I'm just going to rest my leg for a few weeks and then slowly ease back into my walking... The doctor told me that it should take about a month for it to heal, to the point where I can begin exercising again...” 4:40:08 PM 2/02/05 “I did something to the big toe on my left foot. Hurts like a MF! I am still dayhiking the weekend though.” 4:45:03 PM 2/02/05 “Maybe you have an ingrown toenail?!” 4:45:58 PM 2/02/05 “Some time ago there was a thread about cycling and knees--it's not good for the knees.” 11:10:42 PM 2/02/05 “yuck! everyone feel better soon : )” 6:07:30 AM 2/03/05 “Chicago--That is what I thought-- the repetitive motion of Cycling and the simple bending of the knees puts a lot of stress there... I think that my "elliptical rider" is better on the knees than using a bicycle... (especially, if injured.) Well, I'm just going to take it easy for now. I'd rather rest and get better than to make things worse!” 9:02:14 AM 2/03/05 “No, not a toenail, almost feels broken. It's a little better today” 9:04:47 AM 2/03/05 “Gout, WK?” 9:06:40 AM 2/03/05 “Is it swollen? I have gout in my right big toe. It gives me problems sometime, but nothing like the first time I got it. I could barely walk.” 9:09:56 AM 2/03/05 “WK-- it could be broken-- I have a friend who broke his toe once-- hurt like crazy, but there wasn't anything the doc could do (can't really put it in a splint or cast) so he hobbled about for weeks....” 9:11:41 AM 2/03/05 “i hate entropy” 9:07:31 AM 2/04/05 “It's not too fond of you, Tilt...lol...” 9:08:03 AM 2/04/05 “I 9:36:32 AM 2/04/05 “Didja ever get a charley horse in your calf that didn't go away after a solid month? #&%!$ #&%!$!” 9:41:02 AM 2/04/05 “Yikes!!! I've had charley horses, but the pain is so bad that I have to massage it immediately, or I would probably go into shock.... Isn't it do to a chemical imbalance or something like that? I'd get it checked out, if it hasn't gone away! sounds like something's really wrong!” 9:42:45 AM 2/04/05 “Yup - I guess I better. I thought it was improving, but that was just wishful thinking. Hey, it's no problem as long as I always go downhill! (downstairs, etc...)” 10:00:24 AM 2/04/05 “Since Birch steered me onto Endurolytes, I have not experienced any significant problems with cramps. And I am well acquainted with cramps. Horrible things! I take Endurolytes before, sometimes during, and after exercises like workouts, swimming, martial arts classes, hiking and backpacking. 10:03:55 AM 2/04/05 10:27:45 AM 2/04/05 “poor Tiltypoo!! that sucks.” 11:06:59 AM 2/04/05 “Tilt-- you better get that checked out right away! I've had 2 friends develop blood clots in their legs-- it can be very dangerous!!” 11:37:21 AM 2/04/05 Jump to Page << prev
