I can walk on it as long as I don't bend it. Standing around is uncomfortable, and it burns. So I'm taking it easy and dipping into the Ben and Jerry's ice cream. The Dublin Mudslide variety tastes like tiramisu. Major yummers!” 3:29:30 PM 5/08/05 “Getting thge leg checked out might not be a bad idea.” 3:31:03 PM 5/08/05 “I'd rather give it a day at this point, to see how the pain and swelling progress. If it doesn't get too bad, then I'll just take it easy during the week and wear a soft brace for the weekend. If not, then I'll do what neeeds to be done. I think most of the pain at this point is from landing point first on the tile, not internal damage. It feels a little stiff when I lift and bend it, but not too bad. I should be ok, but it definitely scared the s--t out of me. My knees have always been my weak point since I was 15.” 3:44:26 PM 5/08/05 “but it definitely scared the s--t out of me And yet another anti-constipation strategy is laid out.” 4:00:01 PM 5/08/05 treebait “RICE it. Wow, that sounds uber painful. Get better soon!” 4:03:09 PM 5/08/05 “It looks like I'll be ok. I just need to be careful and take it easy to let the knee rest this week.” 8:51:17 PM 5/08/05 “dang! that sounds scary treebait. take it easy and take ibuprofin and ice. that scared me just reading it.” 9:02:19 PM 5/08/05 I am a big dumbass “So, jumping out of the bed of my truck and onto the ground, I managed to rack up my left ankle pretty bad. It hurt really bad yesterday, but I did the RICE thing, and it feels better this morning. I'm calling the doc in a minute so I can make sure I didn't do any real damage, but I think it's mostly okay.” 8:35:51 AM 5/09/05 “Good for you, Bitpusher. My knee is almost normal this morning, just a little stiff. I should be fine.” 8:41:26 AM 5/09/05 “Ooo, that's good treebait. When I read your description of what happened, I thought you had seriously screwed up your knee. Mine hurt like heck, right after I did it. But then I walked it off, and it was okay for a few hours. Then it swelled up a little and got really painful, so I put it on ice and stopped walking around on it. I wrapped it up in an old ACE bandage, put ice on it, and elevated it while watching TV last night, and left the bandage on it all night. This morning I can walk on it without a lot of pain, if I'm careful.” 8:44:42 AM 5/09/05 “I'm taking vitamin I, and keeping it elevated, just in case. I don't know how much I can rest it though, given I have to chase an almost 3 year old around. :)” 8:50:11 AM 5/09/05 “One word, treebait. Rope!” 9:27:11 AM 5/09/05 “Good news, my back is healed. Modern medicine is amazing! As many of you know, seven months ago i underwent a major back surgery including fusion of two vertebrae in my lower back and placement of two titanium pins and four screws. Last September I could not even make it from the couch to the toilette without help. Today I was given a clean bill of health. My recovery is 110% that means I am free to resume all normal activity. My range of motion is back to 100% and I have a stronger back than I started out with. This was the best news I could hope for. I got a chance to hike with a few of you this spring with a light pack and I look forward to hiking with many more of you in the future. I also want to say thanks for all the thoughts, prayers and well wishes, before, during and after my surgery! It was a scary time, especially when I began to lose all feeling in my right leg. I wish everyone else on this thread a speedy and full recovery! IJ” 12:01:50 PM 5/09/05 “Congratulations IJ!” 12:06:46 PM 5/09/05 “Damn, that's GREAT news IJ!!!!” 12:16:00 PM 5/09/05 “yea! sweet news. Now when are we hiking?” 12:32:40 PM 5/09/05 “WK, let me getted moved first and then we will go. How is your little one?” 12:41:25 PM 5/09/05 “HOORAY IJ!!!! I'm very happy for you! Well, I messed up my knee this weekend too. My friend's buddy tripped me and I fell full weight onto my kneecap onto the pavement. Had a little ER visit. It's really swollen and purple, but thankfully I didn't break anything. Unless the radiologist finds something the ER doc didn't... I doubt it tho. They want me to see an ortho doc, but my mom who is an ortho nurse says unless I have trouble and it isn't healing I can skip that, since my x-ray is clear. It should heal up. And yes, it's the same leg and the bad foot. Grrrr. I was SO SO SO upset Friday night when this happened. I had just got the good news about my foot that morning and then a potentially messed up knee.....” 12:56:05 PM 5/09/05 “Keep this up, pixie, and you will get a 'reputation'. ;-)” 1:01:28 PM 5/09/05 “LOL! I know. But this wasn't my fault. I didn't think the guy would pull some kung foo move on me and grab my leg out from under me!” 1:06:11 PM 5/09/05 “Indiana John. I'm so glad for you! Great news!! =) Everyone else, you all need to get rubber suits made up so you'll bounce, lol. Get well quick.” 1:06:18 PM 5/09/05 “pixie, was alcohol involved? ;-) last edited: 5/09/05 1:20:07 PM” 1:17:20 PM 5/09/05 “Yup.” 1:21:47 PM 5/09/05 “I think he might "like" you pix...lol... Anyway, I'm just back from the doc, and he says no breaks, probably just sprained ligaments, and no tendon damage, oddly. I need to take it easy for 1-3 weeks, and I have a re-check in two weeks if it's still not feeling good. He also said that I probably would have really hurt myself bad if I was at my old weight. What I didn't say is that at my old weight, I never would have even considered jumping off of the bed of my truck...” 1:25:32 PM 5/09/05 “Poor bit, LOL. Heal fast.” 1:27:57 PM 5/09/05 “I already feel way better than yesterday. I was using an old broomstick as a cane to get around my house yesterday, today I can hobble around with little or no pain. But it will be a week probably before I can walk normally again.” 1:29:31 PM 5/09/05 “Glad you are feeling better bit. : )” 1:36:40 PM 5/09/05 Yea! “One last rehab session then I see the Doctor on Friday.” 3:19:24 PM 5/24/05 “What did you bust.......this time?” 3:19:58 PM 5/24/05 “5 herniated discs in my lower back!” 3:27:57 PM 5/24/05 “Ooooooooouch!!! My lumbar discs are going to need trimming. Maybe this year...... In the last six months or so it's been bothering my left leg. My right has been buggin' for some years now.” 3:30:09 PM 5/24/05 “I am not 100% pain free but I am 99% better. I went on a DRS machine that stretches you and creates a vacuum between vertebra and allows the discs to slip back in. It is a miracle!” 3:32:09 PM 5/24/05 “Whoa!!! Four years ago I had an MRI and all the lumbar discs are narrowed and bulging. The surgeon said they can trim the bulges by way of laproscope(SP). I will hold out if I can.” 3:39:51 PM 5/24/05 “ ![]() Here is some info. I searched for anything to not have surgery. I've heard nothing but bad things about surgery. http://www.spinaprogram.com/” 3:52:24 PM 5/24/05 “Tango, that sounds like the vax-d system that's very popular around here.” 4:10:06 PM 5/24/05 Here's the medieval version: “ ”4:12:20 PM 5/24/05 “Very similar, except in Vax D you actually hold on and are on your stomach.” 5:02:09 PM 5/24/05 “Glad to hear your good news. Does that mean you're coming out to the Sierras?” 7:50:21 PM 5/24/05 “I wish, I am heading to Africa in June for 17 days. I'll be taking it slow for awhile. I want to make it out there soon though, next year??? last edited: 5/24/05 7:59:58 PM” 7:58:41 PM 5/24/05 I'm OK! No really a Dr. said so! “I am okayed for my recombant bike and no incline on my treadmill. Yippee!! I am so out of shape, it is embarrassing! I will be reporting to the lose weight in 2005 thread! I do have to go back after the safari and wear my brace while I'm there. But that is no big deal!” 8:13:25 AM 5/29/05 “woo hooo!!!!!!!!!! Tango!” 8:14:54 AM 5/29/05 “Thanks I feel the same way, I got your mail btw.” 8:16:49 AM 5/29/05 “Well, CS had recovered from her hip injury and had taken several dayhikes and bp trips with me since last Labor Day. Then, last Thursday, she was in a four car collision (not her fault) that appears to have totalled our vehicle (I had it estimated before the insurance company could and they guy said the frame was bent and it should be a total loss). She had to go to the Dr the day of the collision and now her hip is bothering her. Looks like she will be on D/L for a while.” 1:51:51 PM 7/25/05 “Dang, sorry to hear that. She was so happy that she recovered. Tell her to mend quickly. Hope everything turns out well.” 1:54:37 PM 7/25/05 “Yikes! Good to she is OK (other than the hip)” 2:19:51 PM 7/25/05 “She is a little banged up. All of the kids were with her and they got jostled around. I have a strict seatbelt policy with them and they all follow it. Thank goodness.” 2:43:59 PM 7/25/05 “Glad to hear the good news about it. Car accidents are never fun.” 3:18:41 PM 7/25/05 “Dang chili, hate to hear that. Get well soon, cottonsocks. ..and thank God the kids are OK.” 3:46:50 PM 7/25/05 “The only car accident I was in (not my fault) the state trooper that arrived on the scene said to me, "You must have been wearing your seat belt, huh? If not, we would have found your headless body in the car and you head would have been 100 feet ahead of us on the dan ryan." I got hit while at a complete stop on a major expressway in Chicago from behind by a vechicle that was traveling at an estimated speed of 75 MPH. The driver fell asleep at the wheel and in his words, "used my car as his brakes."” 3:52:54 PM 7/25/05 “Hey, Chili, pass on my best wishes to CS. Hope she and the kids are doing better and she's on her way to a speedy recovery.” 4:45:32 PM 7/25/05 Jump to Page << prev
