When I was in the hospital, I was going down the hall with my crutches one afternoon and a nurse's aide walked by and asked if I wanted to race down to my room. I kicked it into high gear and slipped past her at the last minute.

The RN was down the hall and she yelled out, "You can't do that in here!" I called back, "Too late, she already lost!" I think they were glad to see me leave.

Back from the Doc again.
My kidney stone fragment is now hung up somewhere between kidney and bladder and has my kidney blocked.
Got to go in for another IVP test tomorrow and then decide how to get it out.

Sorry to hear that StoveStomper. Hope it gets cleared up. You already used up all my urology puns; that's it, no more. I do feel for you though, having had a kidney stone. Mine was a tiny one that passed with no trouble, and frankly that was more than enough for me.

The foot, ankle, and lower leg continue to throb. I took some hydrocodone last night. I don't think it stopped hurting, but I didn't give a rat's @ss. The pain seems a little less today, but still severe. I guess it will go on like that, slight improvement each day until it gets back to normal.

Amazing. You can't drink alcohol while you're on rat poison, but you can take hydrocodone. Life gets strange sometimes.

Good luck with that Prowler. My stepmother is dealing with a lot of pain with a similar issue (I don't which discs), and has gotten lots of conflicting opinions from the docs. You should get a second opinion, especially before agreeing to have surgery. A second doctor told my stepmother that lots of people have degenerated disks and have no pain. He thinks that she has one leg longer than the other, causing stress on her hip, resulting in sciatica type pain.

Sorry to hear about the back, Prowler. I had an L4 problem for about a decade. It came with the job. The one thing I resisted was chairopractics. Turned out, after having a Chairo for a roommate, for a year, that it was exactly the thing I needed..... a lot. I firmly belive that all of the hiking and backpacking I do now is keeping it well.

Good luck.... I hope it won't slow ya down too much. Those young'ns are gonna keep ya runnin'

Prowler,
I had a severly herniated disc at L5-S1 51/2 years ago. I lost all use of my left leg and partial use of my right leg. I opted for a Neurosurgeon. The sooner you have the surgery (if that's what they're recommending) the more complete your recovery will be. I doubt I would have made the recovery that I did without the physical therapy. If they're recommending the PT, do it! It works. Good luck.

Hi, my name is Gunny and I'll be your personal therapist. You are without a doubt the sorriest excuse for a patient I've ever seen. You make me wanna puke Maggot! Oh, you broke your little leg, did you? When I get done with you you'll wish that was all you broke. Now drop down and gimme 50 if you can count that high Maggot!

TT Injured Reserve List
Prowler - Go you have insurance at your work? They should pay for whatever is wrong. Go to therapy. You will love the wonderous differnce it can make - I didn't even know I was stressed until I went to PT after a car accident. Hope the situation improves.

You can add me to the IR for two weeks. Went to the doctor today and I apparently developed a neck injury similiar to whiplash during my hike on Saturday. What felt like a pinched nerve at first snowballed into big time pain that allows me to only move my head a couple of degrees in each direction.

Doc said no backpacking this weekend and to take it easy for two weeks.

And yes, I was prescribed muscle relaxers. And no, you can't have any.

Sorry to see you on the list Artex. Get off of here ASAP!!

Well, I successfully completed a total of about 3 miles of very slow jogging last week spread over 3 workouts. It was great to be "running" again, even if painfully slow. My reward? This morning I weighed in tied for my all-time heaviest weight - yes, I gained 3 pounds. Ugh.

muscle relaxers, awaaaaaa.
I like those things too much.

Looks like I'm on my way OFF the list, but not yet.
Last Thur the Doc extracted FOUR pieces of kidney stone from me and but in stent # 2. The pieces allmost passed on their on, but got stuck near the bladder. I go to get the stent out Monday Nov. 11.
The procedure is very unpleasant but maybe I can get off this list after the stent removal.

I'm thinking about it, but it is a honking long drive from MS gulf coast.

No, I had to back out of the Mt. Rogers trip. I took an extra day for the AT trip, plus I'm going to have to take another full day possibly this week. So the Mt. Rogers trip is out.

Sorry to hear that Artex. Get well. Muscle relaxers are even better than hydrocodone.

Stove, you are past due to get well. Stop chewing on gravel.

Martyb, weight gain is normal after you resume activity after a long layoff. Keep working on it and it will begin to level off, then come down.

Now I have to remember that advice myself when rehab starts in earnest on Thursday, the day I report to "Gunny."

I used to love these muscle relaxers named Norgesic, but they stopped making them. They didn't make me tired or loopy, and you could feel the spasmed muscle start to tingle as it loosened up. The ones I get now are named Skelaxin, and they aren't much stronger than ibuprofen. Certainly not much fun.
