I can only walk to the telephone with great pain in one knee. My daughter is going to return my crutches this morning. I feel so lousy it is difficult to smile. last edited: 11/12/05 8:45:41 AM” 8:44:09 AM 11/12/05 “Don't run with sharp scissors....just...don't...do...it :( Blood EVERYWHERE....looks like a freakin masacre went on here... last edited: 11/16/05 2:34:54 PM” 2:34:14 PM 11/16/05 “What did you cut? Your hand?” 3:06:48 PM 11/16/05 “Hope you didn't cut off mikey's...” 3:23:41 PM 11/16/05 “well I am out for a little while. went on a call last night for an injured sick stray cat. well he gave chase and i did manage to get him halfway into my net when he went bonkers. shape pain, blood more pain.. he either bit me or scratched me. but he did get away :( so after 2 hours of blood and pain i went to the ER to get it checked out. they can not stitch up cat bits (even though i needed some). so i soked the finger and then the real fun began. 4 needles and a 2 pills :( tetnus (sp) shot and i started my rabies shots. so both arms and both butt cheeks hurt and my finger :( typing with one finger is no fun.” 6:21:30 AM 11/18/05 “I type with one finger all the time....well actually two if you count BOTH index fingers. Try sticking your tongue out at the same time---won't help you type any faster but it really helps you concentrate. Hope you at least managed to kick the evil beast once or twice.” 6:31:51 AM 11/18/05 “Not good. Take care of yourself. I've never had rabies shots, but I've administered them. If it's still the same as back in the '60's, you have my sympathy.” 6:34:51 AM 11/18/05 “Sorry about your problemss and hope you're feeling better this morning. Do your cat hunting with a 20-gauge. last edited: 11/18/05 7:32:04 AM” 7:27:51 AM 11/18/05 “Poor Mapes has a sore butt.” 8:18:29 AM 11/18/05 “OMG! Stu better come thru with some feel good!!” 6:35:27 PM 11/18/05 “tango, how is your back? my knees are still grinding and popping.” 6:57:29 PM 11/18/05 “ I just managed to walk from the car into my place without crutches. My knees may be recovering, after three weeks of walking with crutches. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.” 10:09:32 AM 11/30/05 “turned 50 and my hip started hurting. loosens up during the day, but sooooo... stiff in the morning.” 11:40:43 AM 11/30/05 “taking glucosamine yet Pathman?” 3:47:16 PM 11/30/05 “I started having knee trouble (I've been waiting for this for awhile.) I started taking MSM, and wowee wow wow wow, knee pain GONE! Back still doing pretty good. Good luck and good health to all on IR.” 4:51:34 PM 11/30/05 what the heckis m&M's “I reluctantly post here. last weekend, I went out for an 18 mile fairly rugged backpack. first day 12 is where the pain in the knee began. By the time I got to camp, I was READY to arrive. I had a day off to rest and then on the 7.1 mile hike out the knee really sank into oblivion. I knew if I walked with a limp or in any way favored the leg, it would have severe repercussions on the back, which is exactly what happened. the back pain now is so severe that I'm pretty much done now on any weekend gigs and also I'm off the bike. This really SUCKS!!! I'm starting chiropractic care and the yoga has taken on physical therapy vs. the strength training I was doing. The good thing is that I can walk and that my insurance will cover all expenses, no deductible. The bad part is no bike riding, no hiking, no backpacking, no yoga. I feel like I have part of my lower back missing. sassanfrassenrassenfrassen!!!!!” 4:58:41 PM 12/01/05 “Sorry to hear that man. I can relate with back and knee probs. I hike with a knee brace on and always carry a back brace just in case.” 5:00:04 PM 12/01/05 MethylSulfonylMethane “Although you may never have heard of it, the organic sulfur compound known as MSM (short for methylsulfonylmethane) is contained in minute amounts in everyone's blood and most foods. It's unclear what role MSM plays in the complex chemistry of the human body, but some experts believe that, like other sulfur compounds, it's a necessary building block for proteins, especially those found in the hair, muscles, and connective tissue of the joints and skin. Sulfur also is found in insulin and bile acid. Now widely available in concentrated supplement form, MSM has been much publicized of late as an effective remedy for back pain, arthritis and a host of other disorders. Evidence for its healing potential, however, is currently only word of mouth, because few rigorously controlled scientific studies have yet been done concerning MSM use in humans. Still, testimonials abound from those who use it regularly. http://www.wholehealthmd.com/refshelf/substances_view/1,1525,807,00.html” 6:16:44 PM 12/01/05 “Too bad, stikmon. Having been on crutches for over three weeks, I can understand pain in the knees. After two months in GSMNP I caught a cold shortly after returning home. My knees went out at the same time. I think and hope it was due to the cold creating a change in some of my body fluids. The cold is now gone. Today I was able to do some walking without the crutches. Maybe I'll get better without knee surgery. I sure hope so. Good luck with yours. Hope you can pinpoint the cause and find a cure. last edited: 12/01/05 6:59:18 PM” 6:57:57 PM 12/01/05 thanks... “I'll get through this.” 7:58:22 PM 12/01/05 Reporting In “Yesterday some friends and I went skiing at Snowshoe. My girlfriend lost control of her board on an advanced course and hit me from behind without warning and we were both moving pretty fast. My left ski didn't release and my leg twisted around and broke my tibia plateau. I have a cast on my leg from my foot to the top of my thigh. I can't drive, can barely walk with crutches and have to ride in the backseat of a car. I can't go back to work for 6-8 weeks so I'll see you guys online a lot! Pictures soon to come. And this is the first thing I've ever broken. I probably won't be able to ski again this year which sucks since I bought a season pass and have been only once and I have no idea when it will be good enough to run on or backpack on.” 7:35:22 PM 1/08/06 “Crikey Dub, get well really soon!” 7:38:58 PM 1/08/06 “YIKES! Dub :( Did your girlfriend at least kiss it to make it feel better? was she hurt? did you bleed? did she bleed? did you punch her in the face? I have had a broken ankle twice, not fun at all (except for the viccodin). Take care of yourself Dub. PS....you should make her feel really bad and get her to give you a sponge bath...thats what I would do if my hubby helped me break something...;) last edited: 1/08/06 7:42:37 PM” 7:39:29 PM 1/08/06 “No bleeding, she was okay, I didn't punch her, and the viccodin is great, but not strong enough, ahhh the pain!” 7:55:28 PM 1/08/06 “yeah...broken bones hurt. Somebody shoulda warned ya before you went and broke one. :P That being said, I really hope you have a speedy recovery. Your young so it should heal fairly quickly and you'll be in PT before too long and hiking again. last edited: 1/08/06 8:00:31 PM” 7:57:46 PM 1/08/06 “Tough break. Good luck with it, dub. I hope you can find some other enjoyable activities during the healing process.” 8:22:40 PM 1/08/06 “There are some books I've been wanting to read and i play a lot of guitar anyways...I just can't play standing up anymore.” 10:15:54 PM 1/08/06 “Heal quickly.” 10:26:21 PM 1/08/06 “Hope ya feel better, Dub!” 10:39:13 PM 1/08/06 “I'm not hidding, I'm just working on my site, and I got sort of sick with a damn kidney infection. idiots gave me the wrong medicine and it got worse. that's all.” 2:37:30 PM 1/09/06 “Who is this 'dub' person?” 2:55:24 PM 1/09/06 “Hell of a way to fit in more TT time. I hope things heal up quickly.” 3:03:59 PM 1/09/06 “Skiing - an orthopedist's wet dream come true. Having had a broken fibula and a full leg cast, I can tell you that it's no fun. You have time to heal by spring, so look ahead to that.” 3:05:34 PM 1/09/06 “Thanks for all the positive thoughts and comments everyone. Here is a pic at the hospital of the broken leg with the snowbunny who broke it. Right now there is just a half cast on it due to all the swelling, tomorrow at 8:30 I go in for a full cast...it's my first broken bone and I'm having a hard time moving around with it bent...if they make it straight tomorrow that's gonna suck even more. 3:29:25 PM 1/09/06 “Heal fast Dub!” 3:32:34 PM 1/09/06 “looks like you got a little sun/wind burnt too” 3:43:24 PM 1/09/06 “dub that's really to bad you broke your leg. your girlfriend is cute, she's probably feeling guilty so let her wait on you all she wants!!” 3:48:06 PM 1/09/06 “Yeah, i was a little windburnt, but that + it being about 3am when that photo was taken also had a little to do with it. I told her it was an accident and not to feel bad, but she has insisted on doing some stuff for more. Big cast should get put on in the morning!” 7:11:18 PM 1/09/06 “I just wanna know how much he had to pay that pretty gal to sit in his lap...” 7:52:14 PM 1/09/06 “Dub, I bet it would alright to let your right hand touch her. LOL ...and tell her to grow a thumb, it differentiates us from lower primates!” 7:58:45 PM 1/09/06 “Dang, dude! Reminds me of an altercation I had with a Rambler station wagon back in '68... the Rambler won... and I didn't play in the street with the Frisbee anymore after that!” 8:58:24 PM 1/09/06 It gets worse “Well, I went to the doctor this morning to have the full cast put on my leg since the swelling has gone down only to find that the bone is completely severed, not even attached right now. They scheduled me for immediate surgery tomorrow morning at 8am, going in at 6am. They will be putting in a steel plate and screws and keeping me in the hospital for observation for 1-2 days, so I won't be online until the weekend. If all goes well I won't need a cast but instead a splint which will allow me to drive. If I need a cast it will be on for six weeks keeping me out of the driving chair and then I'll have a splint. In addition to the surgery I'll need 3-4 months of physical therapy to walk. It sucks. It hurts. But I'll live. Prayers are appreciated. Emails and other messages are appreciated as well. -Jeremy” 12:48:12 PM 1/10/06 Jump to Page << prev
