I've got to start hiking again. I need mountain time. My doc said simple walks on flat ground are OK as long as I don't fall or trip, if I do he said the first thing to hit the ground better be my forehead.

Next weekend I think.....easy trail.

I am officially on the list. After my ride this morning loaded up the bike and drove home. When I got home my hammies were cramping, sore and stiff.

Made it through the shower and put some tiger balm on the back of my legs. I did a poor job of it and managed to get some on the boys. I am watching the Open Championship with a blow torch in my shorts.

Yeeeeeoooooowwwwwww!!!

I use to take magnesium and potassium supplements, it seemed to stop the cramps.

Might have been some zinc too, I can't remember.

"Entropy Sucks!~"

Indeed!

There is a nice flat area just down the street from me, it takes you to some ponds and the Sacramento River. I just started doing a couple mile loop there yesterday. NICE!

It's not the mountains, but that will come soon.

August 8th on the long trail. My wife will drive me and my dog, Loki, out to Western MA on the 7th and drop me at the trail head on the 8th.

Those face plants are tricky - I only managed one once. Anyhow mountain times have been essential to my rehabilitation, bot as part of the plan and as motivation. Mountains really do heal. If I'm ever too old to have any hope of gettin out into them under my own steam, I'm likely to fade fast.

mtsteve....I'm planning my vacation to be out there sometime in the summer next year for the TRT---so maybe I will get to see ya then :)

I will always be homesick for the Sierra :( No matter where I go or how long I'm gone... If I can't get Mike out there, then I will solo it but will need to find someone to help with getting to the trail itself and a resupply point or two, but I dont know the details yet.

One of my favorite bits concerning Entopy....

In time the Rockies may crumble
Gibraltar may tumble
They're only made of clay
But our love is here to stay

(so Ira Gershwin wasn't much of a geologist -- Oy!)

Ped...Although I prefer to do the tuck and roll, I have perfected the face plant, just in case. I have done a face plant on skis, so perfectly, that snow was rammed up nose and came out my throat. Thats Perfection!

Have a great time on your hike!!

The mountains are my church. I also believe that mountain time can heal quicker. If I don't get my mountain time, my wife and friends are usually the first to let me know I need to get away. I get, well, cranky, to say the least.

If you get out this was again SC, let me know...you and Mike have a place to stay.

Ira might not have been much of a geologist. Thank Heavens he wasn't a scientist, LOL

F F F F F

You know what I'm not saying...

I cleaned out the koi bin earlier; the water filled filtration bin (made of fiberglass) started to slip and fall when I was cleaning, so I caught it. Now I have a pretty intense pain twinge at my spine, just to the inside of my right shoulder blade. When I move my shoulder up and down it goes "clunk clunk clunk." Shart. Time to hit the anti-inflammatories.

Yikes --

I'm attempting to train myself to just sit back and enjoy watching things crash rather than put myself at risk.  I'm particularly talented at swivelling around trying to 'save' a 50¢ juice glass... and usually wind up with a pulled muscle and a couple of stitches.

I need a stunt double.

Not sure I've ever posted here for an actual hiking related injury! This is kinda cool!...NOT!

Well, for those of you who wonder "does Crazygurl actually hike"...the answer is yes. However it wasn't a very long hike this weekend. The hubby and I went up to Julian Price Park off of the BRP saturday to scout out the campground and hike the Sims Pond Trail. I no more than got out of the care...put one foot on the trail...and next thing I knew I was on the ground.

After the shock of the fall I got up...thought all was fine except a bruised pride and we went on. We made it maybe .6 or so miles (sounds better than .5) down the trail and my foot was killing me. Most people twist their ankle but I some how injured my big toe, side of my foot and arch. We decided to go back to the car and I took my shoe off to survey the pain...BAD CHOICE...my foot hurt worse with the shoe off.

Anyway...long story short...it sucks to fall...I am still quite sore this morning but I think I will live.

Sorry for your injury!

I was helping a friend with a downed tree when I must have pulled one way, while my knee was planted the otherway- next thing I was on the ground and we all heard my knee pop! OUCH! That was Saturday, I'm still keeping it wrapped because it's tender if I step the wrong way. Hopefully this is temporary, and just one more reminder of age!

Did something to my lower back last week in training....really started killing me this weekend.

Talk about PAIN. Laying in bed, sitting in the car or even walkning and you can feel pain shooting down your leg. I have an appointment today. Hope its something minor.

XL - did you do anything that caused repetitive pounding to your sciatic nerve this weekend?
Sarge

8/13/07

XL, my dad developed similar pain. The doctor told him it was it sciatic nerve, like Sarge said. He told my dad to switch his wallet over to the other pocket. And voila, the pain went away in a few days! Many decades of pressure from his wallet on the same point finally irritated the nerve enough to give him problems.

Good luck.

I thing it's time I started using this thread instead of Whats the word on Stovestomper?.
I'm finially geting an MRI on my right arm and shoulder this late afternoon.
Dang thing has been hurting me for about two months. I think I hurt something during a fall in my bedroom, but the Doc seems to think it's a 'frozen shoulder' due to unused muscles because of the stroke. I hope the MRI can tell. I'm tired of the constant pain.

If you have the opportunity... check your blood sugar. High blood sugar can cause drowsiness and it is not uncommon for levels to rise in the afternoon depending on what you eat for breakfast and lunch.

I took my wife and son to a pumpkin patch this weekend. We went on a hay ride. I stepped off the wagon onto a bail of straw while holding my son. My foot went straight through the bail and all my weight went straight to the ground jarring my back. I can hardly move now. Nothing like a hay ride on a 78 degree sunny day.
