1. nowslimmer instigated & insulted, I returned the favor. you on the other hand instigated & insulted me without provokation. Which is worse?

2. Everybody on the history of this thread posting their injuries is posting about "me me me", as you cowardly call it.

Gremlin - does exercise that makes it hurt worse prolong the recovery? A surgeon told me no, but everywhere I read says rest is important ent for healing. What's your experience?

Sometimes, when I am practicing my oxygen deprivation stroke in the closet, I begin to hallucinate that I am a ninja with telepathic abilities and the power to crush my enemies with a single blow.

Just a small note to get this thread a bit back on topic....

I had 4 hemi-laminectomies done on c 4,5,6 and 7 a few days ago. I am recovering well and am pleased to report that aside from some post-op pain most of my problems that were keeping me from hiking appear to be gone. It will be a few months before I heal enough to go for a real hike but I am hoping for some short walks soon....I am sure glad I still have all my UL gear in storage and pray nothing bad has happened to it in the past few years.

Note that Cookie Monster was provoking Sludge, not Sludge provoking Cookie Monster.

I never mentioned you Cookie Monster. It's not about you. It's about me. Sludge!

Darn it. From the same night (different incident) 2 weeks ago, got a broken toe! Had it x-rayed today. I better not need one of those Frankestein shoes. The hugeungous 3rd degree prison guard stomped on it. ...

(nowslimmer, I'm sure your school teaches how not to get a broken toe, but it's too late for me to join)

odd...msut of been all the sand hiking yesterday but on the inside side of my left foot there there is now what feels like a lump, that hurts to the touch and makes putting weight on that foot hurt. Strange. I didn't feel myself injuring it yesterday?
Oh well, I'll down some vitemin I and hopefully it will go away soon.

No splinter, this is like a big lump, not a blister or anything. I'm sure it will go away :) its not too bad if I wear shoes, if I go barefoot round the house it hurts like hell.

going in for my pre-op exam on 12/2. going in for the surgery on 12/11 or 12/18. back to work after about four days. back to normal level of activity in 6-8 weeks. until then NOTHING after the surgery other than perhaps walking.

i am nervous as heck. i have never really had any form of surgery so i have no clue what to expect. i hope they put me out... i am assuming they will do this. guess i'll find out next week.

Good luck dude. I have a fear of hospitals myself. I had a few procedures done back in August(no surgery) but I was nervous as heck too, so I kinda know how you feel.

really? well then perhaps this won't be so bad stovie. the nurse didn't say anything about sucking my big one but like i said... i have little experience with surgical procedures. just my luck they will put me out and i won't remember anything. typical.

Good luck with the surgery. My husband just had a knee replacement - 5 days in the hospital then home health care (physical therapy) until he's more mobile. He'll be on a walker for a month.

I've never spent much time in a hospital I had my tonsils out when I was six), so it was a strange experience for both of us. The nurses were excellent; the rest of the staff varied. The hospital was more run down than I expected - but I watch too much TV so my expectations are based on Hollywood versions of hospitals (I didn't see a single doctor having sex in the linen closet!) Sleep was impossible with so much activity going on all the time so Jim got pretty grumpy toward the end. I spent as much time with him as I could just to keep him company. We were both happy to have him come home.

Bes wishes for a quick recovery Jim. You'll find that the whole surgery thing will be a blur. You'll wake up and wonder how they got done so fast.

thanks all for your well wishes. i am confident everything will be fine.

my recent cold is clearing up. i went to the doc and he gave me an antibiotic for my clogged ear, a steroid spray for my nose, and a mucus thinning drug. yummie. last night i started putting out lovely colored mucus from the side of my nose where the ear is plugged. he said i had an ear infection, so it was good i want to see him. i would have never guessed. it didn't hurt and i didn't have a fever. that was the pattern with our kids, but i do remember times we took the kids to the pediatrician and they told us the kid had an ear infection and i would have never guessed this was the case. anyway, i hope to be right as rain in a few days. this has been the most miserable cold and i have been suffering for almost two weeks now because of it.

remeber my cracked ankle last winter? Well I swear I haven't slipped on ice or twisted it in anyway--perhaps its the cold? anyway its been hurting for the past couple weeks, but in the past few days its been real bad--- to the point where I have to wrap it now. I hope this isn't going to be a seasonal thing.

For the first time in weeks, I had no pain last night when I went to bed....it was like peace beyond peace! This mornign I'm still feeling good and for that I am beyond thankful. The other night I was just so close to tears....thank god for these new pills!

Oh hell yes!! I am off of the list. I broke my hand 3 weeks ago. Yesterday in a fit of frustration I removed the cast (it was coming off this morn anyway). The doc x-rayed it to see how it looked and its good to go. SWEEEEEET!!!!
