I went for a short hike yesterday and the snow was going over my short gaiters in the mountains. It was just like winter. All the trees were bent over from the heavy snow.” 6:19:18 AM 11/19/02 “Hi, Geo! How's it going? I think there's going to be a NY - NJ war in the Sopranos. What's your Take? I don't see Tony going down though.” 12:20:50 PM 11/19/02 “Yes on the NY-NJ war, with Tony using Ralphie as the excuse. They did say for the remainder of this season to take nothing for granted, or something to that effect. There is still the next and final season to go, so they need to keep Tony alive at least until the last episode of that season. Without Tony, there ain't no Sopranos. But by the end of the next season, the show will be ending, so yes, at that point Tony can get whacked. It could be that or getting nailed by the feds. There can be no other possible ending. He's too high a fish for the witness protection program; he can't just retire. The only other possibility is they could just leave us hanging, just like they do at the end of every episode. It's like you-know-what interruptus! All I know for sure is I never buy pork from Satriales!” 3:14:30 PM 11/19/02 “I wouldn't want to break bread knowing the Richie Aprille (spelling unsure) is on the plate. As for Tony getting busted, I did see an interview with David Chase last year in which he said he wasn't going to take Tony thru the system. He made a point of saying that if folks wanted to see that, they could watch 'Law & Order' or just about any cop and lawyer show for that type of theme. He did say that he was going to concentrate on the dysfunction and the ups and downs of his two families. That much has been pretty accurate this season. I am still up in the air on which way they are going to take Paulie in the last three. Knowing what we do about his relationship with Johhny Sac, I am wondering whether he is going to be forced to takes sides pending a potential war here. One thing's for sure, I did react the same way you did when I saw that ridiculous Napolean image!!” 3:25:44 PM 11/19/02 “and what about the unkillable russian in the pine barrens? Gotta be a tie in with the russian gal Tony bagged.” 3:33:01 PM 11/19/02 “Somebody associated with that show has a whacked-out sense of humor. I constantly see things that crack me up that are not, on the surface, supposed to be funny. But the endings almost always crack me up. The other one that really got me going was when Tony was sitting up with Pie-Oh-My in the stable. I must have laughed a full 10 minutes over that one. It wasn't just the Napolean image, which was funny in itself, but the fact that Paulie had commissioned it and was admiring it. Paulie is a comical character anyway, but that scene was too funny. Remember the trip to Italy when Paulie kept telling people, "Commendatore?"” 3:37:13 PM 11/19/02 “Good point, SS! Maybe a little foreshadowing there. After all, the Pine Barrens was one of the best episodes ever on that show. It is a big void that has yet to be accounted for.” 3:40:03 PM 11/19/02 “Durable son-of-a-#&%!$, wasn't he?” 3:40:47 PM 11/19/02 “I love the one where Paulie went to a psychic” 3:41:04 PM 11/19/02 “Geo, I think the people on that show have incredible senses of humour. They can be so subtle sometimes. And sometimes not so subtle. After all, doesn't everyone know that a girl has two uteruses.” 3:42:49 PM 11/19/02 “or is it uteri?” 3:43:07 PM 11/19/02 “Paulie was really funny in that one. (Psychic) Even when he was visiting Chris in hospital, he had some gems to say” 3:45:37 PM 11/19/02 Hey Tree, nice to meetya.... “Your maple's hubby? She cracks me up ALL the time. The pine barrens show WAS left hanging....They gotta tie it back in somehow.” 3:46:40 PM 11/19/02 “Well, Goodnight all (except you, my little MAple) Like Alvin Lee said, "I'm Going Home."” 3:47:22 PM 11/19/02 “U too, SS. I'll look for you tomorrow. Bye for now” 3:48:09 PM 11/19/02 “I just love the use of linguistic faux pas. They constantly mangle the language, which is pretty apt. Then I love when Tony "corrects" somebody and later ends up using the "wrong" term with Dr. Melfi. I thought sure after Christopher killed Adriana's dog she would turn him in to the FYI. Then he beat her and I was sure she would. Then they all end up in an intervention. That was another funny scene. A mob family intervention! Whoever thought that would work?” 3:49:24 PM 11/19/02 “Christopher beating Adriana and her accepting it is not that far out of character. When Tony learned of the dog killing, I figured Christopher was dead. Tony shows great kindness to animals vs humans.” 4:02:31 PM 11/19/02 “Tony as a PETA member?!?!?! The mind positively reels!” 4:04:35 PM 11/19/02 “id vote for him....” 4:12:22 PM 11/19/02 Inflamation “OK, saw the doc today...got just a little inflamation in the knee. She prescribed me pills, and told me to put ice and then heat on knee. And wrap it with a elastic bandage. No sports or exercise till the knee is healed...should be in about 10 days. We'll see.” 9:48:06 PM 11/19/02 “Hang in there stanlee. I'll still be rehabbing when you go off the list, and Spirit will still be hobbling.” 10:01:52 PM 11/19/02 “Thanks Geo, yeah, you 2 had bad breaks. No pun intended. Get well soon.” 10:12:08 PM 11/19/02 Finally found this thread! “You've all seen this on the other thread. Concussion from a snowboarding accident Saturday. This morning couldn't lift the right arm. Last night it felt like circulation was being cut off and couldn't get comfortable. Saw my chiropractor this afternoon, and now I can raise the arm to shoulder level. I can shift gears without having to use both arms! My chiropractor is awesome! Still pounding down advil and motrin, so I'm not feeling the headaches as much. I'll be off this list soon, I hope.” 12:52:22 AM 11/20/02 “Yep, it's times like this that you wished you had an automatic. I had tennis elbow 2 summers ago...I had to use my whole body to shift gears (had to lock-up the elbow).” 12:57:22 AM 11/20/02 “oh man that sucks snow!! i know how much you love to snowboard and wasnt this the first weekend for it or maybe it was the 2nd. well I hope you get better fast. there is alot of snow that has your name on it...” 8:23:44 AM 11/20/02 “oh man that was a bad pun. sorry!! stanlee, feel better and get back on the trails fast!!” 8:24:30 AM 11/20/02 Becoming a biped “Rehab fun and frolics: Leg is not as swollen, but is a lot more sensitive. So the pain was pretty bad last night. Kept waking up to it. No pain; no gain. So I must be gaining. Worked out on the bike pretty heavy today. Kept playing around with the higher gears and came off it feeling winded. Life seems to be slowly coming back to normal.” 9:54:34 AM 11/20/02 “Welcome to the IR thread, Snow! Now go away!!! i.e., get better so you don't have to be here....” 9:56:36 AM 11/20/02 “hay what does that mean??? I know its not the ideal place to be, but hay we are good folks here ahem well some of are anyway.” 9:58:42 AM 11/20/02 “I hope that you all are better sooner not later. :-) Afterall, you have all that holiday shopping to do to get me all those presents that I deserve. And I am storing all of Geobeet's wine and beer presents, just until he can drink them again. Really, they will be safe with me. ;-D” 10:14:28 AM 11/20/02 “Maple, "That" just means: GET BETTER!” 11:49:31 AM 11/20/02 “Methinks by the time they let me drink again my 12-year-old Glenfiddich will be 18 years old. Now they are putting me on Zocor, which can cause liver damage. Once I get over the rat poison, I can drink but not as much as I used to. Not that I was drinking a lot even then.” 12:34:29 PM 11/20/02 “LyndyS raises her eyebrows at that one, but remains silent” 12:37:59 PM 11/20/02 “Watch out LyndyS, ya don't wanna end up on the list with eyebrow sprains.” 12:40:29 PM 11/20/02 “*giggle* Just get better Geobeet.” 12:43:03 PM 11/20/02 Health Club Rant “I'll be so glad when I can run every day instead of having to go to the gym for exercise. When I joined, they gave me all this literature about the club rules, etc., that included some tips on etiquette. One of the rules is that you are supposed to have a towel with you at all times so that you can wipe off the seat and other pads that you may have perspired on. Almost nobody does this, and lots of people are dripping with sweat. Yuck. Then, after people do a set on a particular machine, they just want to sit on it for 5 minutes until it's time for another set. The club's etiquette guide suggested asking such a person, "Hey, do you mind of I work in a set with you?" (translation: would you get up off of your fat a$$ and share the machine?) Twice in the past 2 workouts I've asked somebody to share and they refused, then just continued to sit there. You would think that when you show up to work out around lunch time (when everybody else shows up) you would expect to have to share the machines! Maybe when I get a few more muscles I can just lift them up and throw them out the window. Oh, one other thing, I haven't quite gotten the hang of the parading around past the mirrors and admiring myself....” 2:37:33 PM 11/20/02 “I wish that they would get rid of the mirrors. Makes the rooms seem annoyingly cluttered.” 3:18:55 PM 11/20/02 “We don't have mirrors at our rehab facility. We just have grumpy old folks who gripe to the therapists. "I don't want to, it hurts too much." "What do you mean 20 reps, I only did 10 last time!" "Why do I have to come here?" "I'll be glad when this is over." Hey, dunce, they're trying to help you. It's not their fault you got your injury.” 3:25:25 PM 11/20/02 “I noticed that too when I was at therapy. A lot of the older people gripe about not improving, but when the therapist asks about if they are doing their exercises at home they say they don't or lie about it. I feel fortunate to live so close to forests to go work out instead of health clubs after reading that rant. The 40,000+ acres of forests behind my house has been my gym for many years, but is disappearing fast.” 4:33:20 PM 11/20/02 “You speak truth richb.” 4:35:02 PM 11/20/02 “richb, I agree - unfortunately, I had to pretty much go cold turkey on walking, running, and cycling because of my injury. Wait a minute, maybe I could go out in the woods and pick up rocks and trees for a workout....” 5:01:06 PM 11/20/02 “Marty, hopefully you'll feel better soon and be able to get back out on the bike and in running shoes again. Hasn't the management of the health club noticed those problems or does anyone else get mad about it?” 5:18:03 PM 11/20/02 “I did tell them about the towel issue and they seemed "very concerned" that this was happening and promised to look into it. I will complain again if there isn't an improvement, since that is actually a rule. The not-sharing the machines stuff is a matter of etiquette, not a rule, so there's not much they can do about it.” 5:39:53 PM 11/20/02 “They should enforce the towel issue, but it seems rude that patrons won't share the machines. 5 minutes seems like a long time between sets. I did some reading about Jack Lalanne and he recommended only 10 seconds between sets.” 6:07:37 PM 11/20/02 “I dunno why you'd want to just sit there anyway. I like to keep moving. Arm thing, leg thing, arm thing, leg thing - repeat until workout done. Takes me about 20 minutes for 3 sets each on 5 different machines (as long as nobody's hogging one). Update on my injury status: I've been on the ball for about a week now. Sitting on the elastic exercise ball in place of a chair at work, that is. I think I found a miracle cure. After about two days I noticed a significant reduction in the hip pain that's been bothering me. Now, the pain is almost completely gone. Plus, I get lots of silly comments from co-workers who walk by and see me sitting on the thing. I will still keep to the very slow recovery process, though, just to make sure I don't screw things up.” 9:12:16 AM 11/21/02 Slow recovery “Yes, too slow recovery process. But it is progress compared to wearing a cast and hobbling around on crutches. Slow and painful recovery process - WOOOHOOOO. Bipeds have more fun!” 9:23:25 AM 11/21/02 “Took it a little easier in PT today, they told me to be nice to my ankle. I'm halfway through rehab; two more weeks to go. It will still take some work even beyond that. It's amazing what a one-second lapse in thinking can do to you.” 9:03:46 AM 11/22/02 “Martyb, I think that's rude if someone refuses to work sets in...most of the people at our gym will or say they only have one more set and finish up. They MUST know what it's like to have to wait. About the sweat thing, some people are just lazy and think only about themselves...most of the time I'll wipe it off myself knowing that some people don't, then I'll do it after knowing that someone will be right behind me. We go at a great time about 4:00pm just before the 5:00pm working stiffs get there and it gets more crowded. Anyway I don't mind the gym too much...gotta do something since I sit on my butt all day.... Geobeet, I'm still not quite off this list yet either. Doc says I should go see a Orthopedic in a couple weeks....knee still isn't quite right. BTW, my workouts don't include anything with my knees which leaves out cardio :( and that's what I really need.” 11:27:09 AM 11/22/02 “I have a splinter in my ass...does that count?” 11:46:44 AM 11/22/02 “Yeah Skeetah, no real cardio in mine either. I spend 10 minutes on the exercise bike, but they say I should not overdo it and should just "warm up." Wednesday I overdid the whole shooting match and paid for it that day and yesterday. I kicked up the resistance on the exercise bike, pedaled like Lance Armstrong going up the mountain, and had to walk it off when I was finished because I was winded. I felt it in the calf and hamstring yesterday. But I am not sorry I did it. I just slowed it down a bit today. If I can get out walking on Sunday I will have to keep mileage lower than I would have liked, but it is important to me to at least get out there. They told me that almost everybody wants to rehab and rehab RIGHT NOW. So overdoing it is a fairly common thing. But as several people have noted, you could overdo it to a point where you set yourself back. So far I have not done that, but just paid the price in pain. A year from now it will be a funny memory. I'll just keep plugging away. Hang in there Skeetah. Take it one step at a time. Spring will arrive on March 20 no matter what the groundhog says.” 11:54:25 AM 11/22/02 Jump to Page << prev
