Last night it started hurting and this morning it's swelled up and blackish.” 8:20:34 AM 7/10/06 “Ouch. How did you do that Stovey?” 8:30:07 AM 7/10/06 “Damned if I know. May have been when I was crawling out of my kayak onto a dock while the kayak was still in the water. I had to make some odd 'moves' to do that.” 8:33:50 AM 7/10/06 “I probably just bent it back to far. May not be broken, but it sure is black today.” 8:34:54 AM 7/10/06 “take the C!B! approach and whack it off” 9:15:42 AM 7/10/06 “Or you can take my approach, leave it alone, let it grow back all weird (on the inside) and then pay a Dr. to wack it off. Hindsight being what it is, I'll go to the Doctors for every broken toe from now on.” 9:20:46 AM 7/10/06 “A coworker of mine was an army medic and he said it was probably just sprained. He said it would be hurting a lot more if broken. It does look not quite as discolored right now.” 10:06:26 AM 7/10/06 “exiting kayaks is never a graceful process” 11:22:14 AM 7/10/06 “Yep, I think I looked more like one of those Sea Lions flopping up onto the dock.” 11:27:04 AM 7/10/06 “After 4 straight days of golf I think my old slipped disc injury is flairing up. Not bad like it once was but that dull pain in my back with that tingling sensation in my right leg isn't good. I did have 5 birdies on route to a 76 yesterday walking 18 with the bad back.” 11:30:13 AM 7/10/06 “Dangit! I think I have to check into the TT injured reserve for a week or two. Night before last at work I tripped over a safety barracade of all things. My right ankle twisted and I fell on my left knee. Turns out I sprained my right ankle. It is swollen about twice it's normal size and there is a nice bruise developing from pooled blood. Last night at work was hell, lightning was hitting so close that we had equipment failures all night. It was pouring buckets of rain and I'm running up and down the stairs with a sprained ankle. I should have been smart an went of light duty but after over 14 years and not one sick or light duty day, I hate to kill my record. Time to pop a few advil and go to bed. last edited: 7/30/06 5:25:53 AM” 5:23:29 AM 7/30/06 “Jeez, that's a bummer. Good luck with some healing.” 5:31:44 AM 7/30/06 “Bat...ice for 24 heat for 24, then after you move it alot for work or training...ice it again. Hope you get better.” 5:48:41 AM 7/30/06 “Xl I probably should have done all those things but I haven't. I made it through last night with no pain killers and the swelling hasn't gotten any worse. I did a lot less walking and stairs last night thankfully. Based on recovery the last two days, I'd say in two weeks I'll be back to normal I think.” 1:23:52 PM 7/31/06 “I'm in! Got a kidney problem. It may be serious or it may disappear. For now I've been ordered to just rest, no exercise including Martial Arts. However, I can watch the classes. Monday evening before class I did some sit-ups in full uniform. I believe the belt and the knot(tie) pinched my stomach. Tuesday morning I was in pain across the belt line. Wednesday, still in pain, I went to the doctor. She felt it was something else, so she ordered up some scanning. First, I had to drink a lot of barium-something stuff mixed in water. It was not too bad, it had an orange flavor. So now I have another medication, an antibiotic that requires that I do no exercising and get plenty of rest. Fortunately, I can handle the resting part.” 8:09:40 AM 8/11/06 “You need to drink lots and lots of water too, for any kidney ailment. Gotta flush 'em clean! Hope you feel better and can get back out there soon Paul.” 8:22:24 AM 8/11/06 “Thanks, treebait. I'm feeling better. The pains were a little better before I started on the antibiotic Thursday morning. And now I don't even notice them. If you're interested, I'm taking ciprofloxacin 500 mg twice daily and plenty of water. I will see the doctor again on Tuesday and have another scan in about two weeks. Hopefully, my strength will return during this period. I suspect that I may have had some kidney damage in the past from one of my activities. I still think that the belt I wore while doing sit-ups agravated things and, thus, allowed an infection to start. Hopefully, this medicine will do the trick.” 8:43:35 AM 8/12/06 “I'm feeling much better. Today, the doctor explained that everything looked OK. My liver was normal size. Heavy drinking had not destroyed it. The scans did show an enlarged prostrate gland. Another scan will be taken on the 21st. At the end of the left kidney there was about a one-inch area that looked infected. The medication should clear it up by the 21st.” 7:28:22 PM 8/15/06 “Good news NS! Those kidney infections are awful.” 9:40:13 PM 8/15/06 “Good luck getting straight NS. Hopefully you'll be back to strength for some fall hikes. I'm officially checking out of the TT injured reserve. My ankle is still a little swollen but, I'd say it's back to 80% or better now. It would probably be even better had I took it easy this last two weeks but I haven't. First few days I could barely get my workboots on due to the swelling.” 9:57:47 PM 8/15/06 “Gee, I thought I was doing so well. It's been months since I had any sort of wound or injury that was more then just an annoyance. I was just getting some peepers out of the garden. I have to use scissors on this variety otherwise the whole stem strips out. I cut open the tip of my right ring finger with the scissors and didn't notice it immediately. What I did notice was the blood I got all over myself, the plants, the porch, the floor, all over the counter, etc... I think it was a good 5 minutes before I noticed, when I went to wash to peppers I just gathered. I made a mess. The cut is half an inch long at most, but pretty deep. I wish they made these fingertip bandages a tad larger, too.” 2:23:49 PM 8/18/06 “Good luck with the healing, treebait. Hmmm, fresh peppers carefully soaked in warm blood. How yummy can they get?” 2:33:38 PM 8/18/06 “Hey, the pepper plants can use all the nutrients they can get. I didn't realize the peppers were blood red on their own, either. Into the chili pot they went, after getting washed of course. I find I prefer to grow sheepnose pimento peppers rather than bell peppers; They're tougher and produce a lot more fruit. I've had the same plants producing fruit for nearly 3 years now.” 2:42:28 PM 8/18/06 “I stepped on a board that had a screw sticking out of it - went through my waldie type shoes and into my heel. Hurts to walk. :( How is your toe, Stovie?” 9:06:00 AM 8/29/06 “Hope your tetanus shots are up to date!” 9:13:57 AM 8/29/06 “Poor twiggy! Are your tetanus shots up to date? My toe is OK.” 9:15:36 AM 8/29/06 “How is the Waldie type shoe? And thanks for the warning. I've been wearing mine too much of the time.” 9:25:02 AM 8/29/06 “Glad to hear your toe is okay Stovie.. You didn't hack it off?? :) the shoe is fine, thanks nowslimmer. I don't have time to go to the doctor, LOL...I did it on Saturday, and I had 3 moms and their daughters over for the weekend, and we'd set up camp out back. I'm not dead yet, so my tetanus shot must still be good.” 9:48:22 AM 8/29/06 “Every time you get a nasty poke or cut you should get another shot. Seems like I get one a year lately.” 9:49:50 AM 8/29/06 “A tetanus booster used to be good for 10 years...nothing stays the same. Of course, CDC once said small pox was eradicated. I guess I'm on injured reserve too. I drove up to the SHT saturday evening. Once I got there I realized that the last thing I wanted to do was put on my pack and walk. Yesterday was a trip to the chiropractor and then again a few minutes ago. I should be fine for Isle Royal.” 10:37:20 AM 8/29/06 “Don't know if I'm in or out! After a third scan, I understand that my kidney looks better. They seem unable to tell me how much better. Also, they cannot tell me if it was an infection or something else. However, I can resume exercising. And another appointment is being postponed so that I can visit the mountains for the rest of October. Fall colors, here I come. Hope to leave home on Monday or Tuesday. The next appointment is with a second cardiologist, since mine does not do the recommended procedure. They want to drop something down my throat to enable them to get a good look at the back of my heart to make sure that there is no blood clot. I feel that they just want to do testing to bring in more money to the group of doctors. They are probably sworn to helping each other earn the big bucks. last edited: 10/05/06 3:37:06 PM” 3:35:10 PM 10/05/06 “Enjoy your trip Nowghostly! I'm glad you got the go-ahead to take off.” 3:37:58 PM 10/05/06 “hey there paul, lucky you, going to the mountains. keep us posted on where you are staying my cousin and i may head up that way in a week or so. i've been busy with my new business and haven't been exercising and riding my bike like i should. hence is knees have been hurting.” 5:17:20 PM 10/05/06 “Well, I had a freak accident today! I was closing my glass doorwall door and got my index finger caught on an edge.... Sliced it open 1/2 inch and almost 1/4 inch deep--it even sliced through my nail... Had 8 stitches (including 2 through my NAIL), Difficult to type... I think Motrin and Darvacet will be my friends for a while..... Of course it's on my dominant hand....” 10:49:18 PM 10/21/06 “Ouch! I had one of those kinds of doors in my place once. Get well soon.” 11:34:22 PM 10/21/06 “Yeeek! That hurts just thinking about it! Get pain-free fast, Pinkbubbelz!” 8:18:30 AM 10/22/06 “I took a fall at Sipsey Friday night. Went to the ER tonight. Broken tibia, right leg. In a splint for now until I see the orthopaedic doctor tomorrow. I probably won't be able to hike for a while.” 9:30:09 PM 11/12/06 “jesus christ! didn't that #&%!$ing hurt like a mother#&%!$ when you did it? Or did the JW keep you numb?” 9:37:30 PM 11/12/06 “Can you believe it? The first hike in a while where I didn't take any liquid pain killer with me. Yeah, it hurt like a mother #&%!$er. Still does. At least I now have some vicadin to get me through.” 9:43:36 PM 11/12/06 “#&%!$ man, I have yet to break a bone. Thinking about it hurts. Thinking about it happening on the trail really hurts. I think I'll add Vicadin to my first aid kit, maybe as an enhancer for the whiskey. ;) How long you out for?” 9:49:10 PM 11/12/06 “Don't know yet. I have to go to the Orthopaedic clinic tomorrow for further assessment. I should know more then.” 9:53:55 PM 11/12/06 “Heal quickly” 11:18:29 PM 11/12/06 “Aw, That's a heck of a break, Chili. Good luck with the doctor today. Hope the healing goes well and rapidly.” 2:24:41 AM 11/13/06 “Sorry to hear about the fracture Chili. I hope it heals fast and you can get back on the trail soon.” 4:46:35 AM 11/13/06 “Wow Chili, how was the hike out?! What'd you do for it? Hope you heal up quick!” 6:18:15 AM 11/13/06 “Bear, he needed you to have been there with some extra meds.” 6:26:23 AM 11/13/06 “Dude..sorry I wasn't there....but on the fun side I have been working all weekend....” 7:50:28 AM 11/13/06 “wow! heal quickly! You must have a high tolerance for pain - hike out, drive and manage for two days...yuk.. I shut my bare foot between a metal screen door and the doorjamb Saturday (yep, all by myself!) and it's brusied and battered! Won't keep me from doing anything, but I thought as long as this thread's up, I'd post how stupid I am.” 7:55:30 AM 11/13/06 “Chili...How the heck did you get home??? You are in my thoughts.” 7:59:10 AM 11/13/06 “Ouch, dude!! Sorry to hear that.” 8:12:24 AM 11/13/06 Jump to Page << prev
