SG, BB, Q, etc...

If you're coming to the Birch/Sass house, bring an appetite. I'm making tacos... reminiscent of our lovely dinner at the cabin last year!

See ya there.

What time should I show up? I told Joe I'd bring some beer. But I doubt I can take care of you all!

Hey Smiley!

To call this a "trip" is overstating it a bit, but...

Pointe Pelee is a 9 km sandspit that has developed in Lake Erie due to wave action. It essentially makes a V into the lake with sandy beaches along the length of both coasts and extensive marshes and some woodland within.

The Pointe has good views of two lighthouses, passing freighters and several islands.

We started near the base of the point and made a circle through the Marsh before following the shoreline south. This was a combination of wide path and narrow singletrack with some beach hiking mixed in. It is possible to hike the beach for the entire 9 km, but that's high energy hiking.

About midway through the hike, we came upon an old cemetary and read inscriptions. The cemetary had an evil looking dead tree at its entrance. Nice for this time of year.

We were impressed by the boardwalk that the Canadian National Park service installed. They mean business.

At the end of the hike, we reached the southernmost tip of mainland Canada with waves crashing on both sides and over our boots. What looked like several thousand ducks in one migrating mass flew about a foot over the water just offshore. The wind was biting, but the view was glorious.

Hike Total: about 7 to 8 miles

This would be a good midwinter snowshoe when the ice formations build at the tip. It'll feel like the Arctic.

Thanks Sassafras, Birch and Tarabull!

Was a fun hike. Thanks, RL, for picking the location.

I would definitely like to check it out in the winter. Sounds like a grand idea to me!

That would give me another opportunity to stop at the Colombia Outlet Store and drop more cash on hiking clothes!

p.s. Coulda used snow shoes on the shore hiking yesterday, eh?

Hey Jerbear... you reading this thread still? I got your voicemail, but as you may have gathered from the info above, Buddha Bear wasn't with us on the dayhike. Hope you were able to get in touch w/ him.
