My girlfriend and I are planning to make a daytrip out to Pointe Pelee NP on Saturday 10/26. It's about 30 minutes east of the border at Detroit in Canada. Is there any interest in a group hike here? I'd love to get some mountaineers out. Should be nice color and cool wave action along miles of beach.

I'm thinking we could string some of the woodland and marsh trails together with final destination at the tip. Could get a nice hike.

Any interest?

Okay, then. I'll get started on this. Birth certificate or passport is a good idea. They might not check, but you supposedly need it now.

Oh, and if you are in the country illegally, don't go on this trip.

I'll likely be there.

I went thru the border twice in August. They suggest the BC or passport. But, they didn't ask for it. Bring it anyway. Just in case.

Okay.

Meet at the parking lot for the Marsh Boardwalk at 10AM on 10/26.

We will take a spin on the impressive marsh boardwalk and then shoot north on the hike/bike trail for 2.5 miles. Then, we will shoot into a nice woodland trail before heading for the east side beach. We'll continue hiking north. We'll hike until we hit the southernmost mainland tip of Canada. Then, we'll get into the kayaks and head for Ohio. Sound good?

BTW, this is more of walk than a hike, but it is very beautiful. Estimate: 7 miles one way. We'll spot cars.

BTW, replace north with south in the above paragraph.

We don't need no stinking compass.

I'm sure there could be. You're always welcome to camp in our yard if no one's up for a camp out, BB, there's a fire ring and a water source...I'd let you drink from my lilly pond if you wanted. Do filter first though! I'm sure a few of the TTers could be persuaded to come over Friday night and welcome you, in true Michiganiacs fashion.

The closest camping is at Wheatley Provincial Park, just a bit east on the coast of Lake Erie. This is planned as a dayhike.

Sass - can I pitch a tent in your backyard too??? Sounds fun. I can test out my new bag!

This is many moons ago, but on a family trip, we took our Great Dane. We had to make sure all the papers were in order and I don't remember it being a big deal. I would call the border just to make sure. Who knows what the deal is now. They might be on the look out fer Al Queda dogs...... :)

Looks like I'm out for this weekend. I have to go to a last minute doctors appointment tomorrow, which means I will be one day behind, which means I have to work on Saturday. I was really hoping to go, but I just don't think there's any way, unless something breaks my way.

Have fun!!

Sorry you're going to miss this one Q.

Tbull, of course you can pitch a tent in our backyard. You may be the only one out there but you're more than welcome. =) You could also call the couch before BB decides whether he's going to be up here for this hike or not.

I have a stinkin' halloween party at work Friday, complete with cotton candy and popcorn, cake walk and all that messy #&%!$. They are expecting 600 people at least. I have a feeling I'm going to need a restoritive drink when I get home, if not several.

RL, any idea how long it'll take us to get to the park, once over the bridge?
Sassafras

Sass-

The website says 35-45 minutes past the bridge.

If BB comes and decides to crash at your place, he's welcome to the couch. I'm not sure, though, that he could sleep at eithe of our houses due to allergies!

Q - you'll be missed!

Friday night is starrting to sound good, and I'll definately camp outside (dogs make me sneeze boogers everywhere, but they sure make tasty chili meat.... at least that's what my Canadian buddies tell me) I have Halloween party in C-Town on Saturday night.

I'll let y'all know by Thursday.... thanks for the offer sass!

Cool.

Thanks for the reading help Tarabull. I printed out the directions from the site and didn't look at anything else.

We'd like to go to Mexican town but have to pick Abby up in the evening. So, can't say whether we'll join everyone until we know what time we're done with our hike.

If we start hiking at 10AM and do seven miles, we'll be done by early afternoon. That'll put everyone in Mexicantown by dinner - maybe. We'll have to see.
