I am not a huge country music fan, but I do tend to like Johnny and Merle and David Allen Coe.....

Might have to pick up the new CD.

I pretty much HATE country music... but LIKE Johnny Cash. Mebbee it has to do with the fact that when I was growing up we'd go to my aunt and uncle's (small town Barney Fife-type town cop)... and we'd sit and listen to Johnny a railin' on the big ole HUGE console stereo (turntable, mind ya) about a burning ring of fire and Folsom Prison and the like.

Johnny rules!

be sure to read the liner notes. Lot of good information.

Great albumn. My kds (7 and 4) love it.

In fact, I was playing "making Movies" (Dire straits 1980 =/- Tunnel of Love, Esspresso love, Skateway, Les BOys, Solid Rock, handin Hand etc) and the youngest asked from the backseat. "daddy, is this the Sailing to Philidelphia man??

Memories
When I was a little girl, my Grandmother had a luxury car and it had an 8 track in it! That was big time back then. Well being a Grandmother she had all kinds Lawrence Welk stuff, yuch! But she had 1 Johnny Cash 8 track and every time I was in that car I wanted to listen to it. I bet she got so sick of hearing that! But she never said no and never complained!!! I still like him!

My dad had an 8-track in his car when we were little. He played a lot of Johnny Cash then. Don't remember what else, really, the Johnny Cash is all that stuck in my head.

I remember the summer we drove cross country and it seemed that the only song on the radio was "Boy Named Sue". That may have been the same summer as "The Candyman". What torture.

Damn, I must be old. I remember when I had an 8-track. Last 8-track I ever bought was Pink Floyd's The Wall. I bought the JC cd last night. It's pretty good.

His last album was killer.

A long career that just seemed to stay with the times. Yes, he is missed.

One of his early recordings that I love to hear
Well I woke up Sunday morning
With no way to hold my head, that didn't hurt
And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad,
So I had one more for dessert.
Then I fumbled in my closet through my clothes
And found my cleanest dirty shirt.
Then I washed my face and combed my hair
And stumbled down the stairs to meet the day.

I'd smoked my mind the night before
With cigarettes and the songs I'd been pickin'
But I lit my first and watched a small kid
Playin' with a can that he was kicking
Then I walked across the street
And caught the Sunday smell of someone's fryin' chicken
And it took me back to somethin'
That I'd lost somewhere, somehow along the way.

Chorus:
On a Sunday morning sidewalk
I'm wishing Lord that I was stoned
'Cause there's something in a Sunday
That makes a body feel alone.
And there's nothin' short of dyin'
That's half as lonesome as the sound
Of a sleepin' city sidewalk
And Sunday mornin' comin' down.

In the park I saw a daddy
With a laughin' little girl who he was swingin'
And I stopped beside a Sunday school
And listened to the songs they were singin'
Then I headed down the street
And somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringin'
And it echoed thru the canyon
Like the disappearing dreams of yesterday.

Repeat Chorus

I'm big J. Cash fan...love Folsom Prison Blues, Boy Named Sue, Man In Black...

But what I've heard of his last music, his voice has lost his power; that would be expected. I would have preferred that Cash win an award for his lifetime of achievements, and give the categorical awards to the artists that really put out outstanding material.

You must not have seen his last Video, Hurt. That is a very moving video that he spills his heart out on. The resemblance to my late father is too great for me. He makes you think about all the hurt in life.

Album
1.A set of musical recordings stored together in jackets under one binding.
2.The holder for such recordings.
One or more 12-inch long-playing records in a slipcase.
3.A phonograph record.
4.A recording of different musical pieces

An album is a collection of recordings.
A record is a recording of something, music in this case.

CD's are rocords.

Trail Talk is a record of the ramblings of morons.

However, I still think that Toby Keith should of gotten an award last night. But, was glad to see that the Dixie Chixs didnt.

I haven't seen the video, but I heard that it (and the song, too) was outstanding.

Hey, I like Johnny Cash; what I've heard are a song or two from three (?) recent CDs; the lyrics were good, but the voice had diminished, unfortunately.

I like Ring of Fire and his version of Ghost Riders in the Sky, too.

I'm with FG on the Kristofferson thing. Never really liked his albums enough to purchase them. But, he wrote some great stuff. He wrote 'Me and Bobby McGee' and his version of the song doesn't hold a candle to Janis'

I think Kris had a fling with Janis at one time.

I have always heard he landed a helicopter in Johnny Cash's yard to get his attention on some songs.

Is that right, Chili? Never heard that. Landing a helicopter. Well, that will get the job done as far as attention getting goes, that's for sure...

Kris was a lifer in the Army. Helicopter pilot and was offered a position to teach at West Point. I think he was a Captain when he resigned his commission.

Quit the army and flew commercial helicopters and worked as a Janitor to make it in Nashville.
