Trying to find info on Newton Bald Loop
I was wondering if anyone knows or has a book that tells detailed descriptions of the campsites in the GSMNP? There is a hike I'm thinking of doing Newton Bald Loop , but the map I have doesn't tell if campsite #52 has water near by. I'm hoping someone might have expierence with the site or has a book that tells if water is near by.

Most of my hikes in GSMNP have been in the Big Creek area so I'm trying to check out new areas. I did the Maddron Bald loop last fall, it was pretty nice as well. So I'm hoping that the Newton Bald Loop is as nice, just don't want to have to lug up a days worth of water. Thanks ahead of time.

suggestion: call rei and have them look in the little brown book about the smokies and ask them. Or you could call the ranger station in that area and they could tell you.. rei will normally look that info up for you.

Big creek area is awesome. i like that the best myself. good luck

From "The little brown book"
Hiking Trails of the Smokies

Campsite #52 straddles the ridgetop. It has three or four tent sites and a spring about 50 yards down to the left.
