Sniper in Custody?

I agree that the term sniper to describe this "fellow" is a slap in the face of the real snipers. again, beltway shooter just doesn't have that same ring as sniper. The media should be ashamed!”

After hearing all that I have, I'm just glad that my friends are all still alive and well out of danger, that way.

Just wish SOMEONE would do something about this guy! I'm thinking one shot.... marksmanship like that....... this guy is a pro. They're NOT going to catch him, and he is NOT leaving traces behind .... I think someone is possibly working with him, possibly under duress, and is trying to get him caught. Thus, the messages in various forms. If he's working alone.... we COULD say that he's schizophrenic or has multiple personalities..... and one of them is trying to stop himself?!? I dunno... just my ideas.”

“Military and police snipers set themselves apart from other shooters. There is a "code" of sorts. In those cases snipers shoot at either bad guys or the enemy, which makes it morally okay in their view.

Not ever having to fire a shot in anger, I have no cause to argue with them.

“If he doesn't want to get caught, he apparently is leaving a lot of forensic evidence behind. The police are collecting a lot of it, from recent stories.

And these phone calls are supposedly from the sniper. I have no idea whether he wants to come in or is using them to drive the cops batty.

The guy has a few wires crossed somewhere, that much is obvious. But he's neither the first nor will he be the last. People don't like cops or the military until it comes down to something like this, then they wonder why the cops can't do a better job. But the way this guy is operating, it is impossible to get ahead of him. I'm sure lots of cops would love to pop him. But they have to see him first, and then make damn sure he's pointing a gun at them.

So it's impossible to say how it will end or even what he will do next. He does seem to react to news stories and statements that police make about him. That is why the cops are battening the hatches and refusing to comment, for fear of setting him off further.

The media is doing what it does because we sit there in a catatonic trance and watch it. We want to see what he's done and perhaps see him get captured. It's the O.J. Ford Bronco chase all over again.

For all the comments about the media, there seem to be a lot of people who are familiar with what is going on. Where does all that knowledge come from? ESP? Or the media?

Frankly, I think the media have asked a lot of stupid questions during press conferences and interviews. They display a lack of knowledge, even at this late date, of firearms and ballistics. They make statements that are so stupid that I find it embarrassing to my profession.

But they have the cameras rolling on live shots, and it is compelling television. So I sit there like everybody else, wondering "what the he11?"”
