Cold SleeperView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 15 of 15 messages posted.
“I picked up a REI Sub Kilo +20 down bag on sale. Have not used it yet (too hot down here). I read some reviews calling it more a 30 degree bag than a 20 degree bag. Anybody got one? How cold can a "cold" sleeper go in this bag? I live on the Gulf Coast so 50 degrees is cold to me. I'm thinking of a winter trip and wondering if I should pack my Moonstone 800 down liner for temps around 20 degrees? Note: I tarp rather than tent.” 2:45:10 PM 10/21/02 “Sleeping bags are notoriously rated for lower temps than people can actually tolerate comfortably. Rule of thumb is to add 10 to 15 degrees to what they claim. I add 20.” 2:47:26 PM 10/21/02 “My bag is 0' but im getting a fleece liner for my next trip. I like the idea of added warmth.” 2:57:17 PM 10/21/02 “I'm thinking about sewing a fleece liner. I have a coolmax liner right now, but fleece sure would feel nice!” 3:14:22 PM 10/21/02 “The fleece doesn't work if you wear a flea collar.” 3:16:47 PM 10/21/02 “YUK YUK” 3:17:31 PM 10/21/02 “yeah fleece is warmer..i picked up rei's mummy bag liner that fits into the sub-kilo and it is rated 55 degrees. ardds about 10 degrees to it and you can use it as a summer bag as well” 3:17:37 PM 10/21/02 “maybe i'll try sticking my fleece bag in my mummy bag - being so short, the extra stuff at the bottom shouldn't be too much of a problem. :)” 3:19:32 PM 10/21/02 “yeah.....fleece that will keep you warm...i bought the rei mummy bag liner that is 55+..it will add 10 degrees to your sub kilo and you can use it as a summer bag as well” 3:21:12 PM 10/21/02 “woops..posted twice” 3:22:44 PM 10/21/02 “bbinkley, you talking in circles??” 3:24:24 PM 10/21/02 “lol...thanks..i'm gonna go troll now” 3:37:45 PM 10/21/02 A Sleeping Bag-Shaped Comforter Or What “Is that Moonstone down liner just one layer or is it like a thin sleeping bag that fits into another sleeping bag.” 3:53:04 PM 10/22/02 Buddur “One layer, either pull it on top of you inside the bag or attach to top of bag.” 5:54:16 PM 10/22/02 “I thought these overbags were pretty cool as well. MEC makes pretty nice stuff. Not as light as the Moonstone pup tho... Overbags” 5:59:06 PM 10/22/02
