whats new #&%!$ cat??
Well not really sing with Tom Jones but we can sure as heck climb him. Im talking about hiking Tom Jones Mt in Harriman State Park upstate NY.
I know Corp Nasty and myself want to do it.
I was thinking in Jan. There is a very nice Leanto on top of the summit. Ive never done a winter hike and this would be great if it snowed for us. Who knows, mother nature may do it for us.
So any Northeastern People want to go and sing on Tom Jones MT.
come on it's unusual you want to loved by anyone....

Last time I went out in 10-degree weather was the last time I'll go out in 10-degree weather.

Not to mention the fact I'll still be rehabbing in January.

Too early to tell, but since it's practically in my backyard, there's a pretty good chance I'd be able to make this trip.

Tom Jones Mtn.? Sounds sounds like a really short trip, LOL

Funny you should mention Jackie Gleason. I knew a guy whose father was the head electrician on his show back in the 60s. By Some Strange Coincedence, Tom Jones was touring and doing his TV show at that time. His only real necessities were his 'TOM' letters and his troup of dancers, and he taped his show using Jackie Gleason's facilities and people when he came through Miami Beach.

Which brings me to the point of this post. You see 'climbing Tom Jones' would be a REALLY short trip because he's barely 5 feet tall. To make him appear taller, he had a troup of midget dancers in the 4 1/2 foot range. I think those 'giant' letters spelling 'T-O-M' were only 7 or 8 feet tall.

They had to set up the cameras practically On The Floor to shoot UP at him to make him look taller and all the cameramen were mad as hell because it was killing their backs.

What this has to do with hiking, I dunno.....

LOL

I might be up for that hike. January is a tough month, though. I won't be able to commit very far ahead of time. I'll keep an eye on this thread, if the hike happens I would love to join you if life permits. :)

you're wrong, Tilt...making your way through Tom Jones is an extremely long and arduous process. it gets mighty boring and mind-blowingly confusing. even though he's seduced by his mother, who isn't really his mother, i wouldn't recommend this book.

LOL! but for real. good pics, Mapleleaf...

Tom Jones shelter, this reminds me of one time when couple of friends and I were on a winter hike in Harriman (This is probably back in the late 70’s) and we had planned to spend the night in the Tom Jones Shelter, but when we arrived at the shelter late in the day there was this shabbily dressed old man in the shelter and he did not look happy to see us. He had a fire going and some stuff lying around, but things just didn’t feel right he looked more like someone who was homeless then a backpacker, so we decided to move on a few more miles to the Black Rocks shelter (I think that’s the name of it) and spend the night there. The next morning while we were having breakfast a couple of park rangers stopped by our shelter and we told them about the old man we had seen at the other shelter. They said Oh that’s so and so (I don’t remember what they called him). They said he lives here. He just wanders around the park staying in different shelters.

I guess there’s no real point to this story except that reading this thread made me think of him. Maybe he was Brians father.

It happens. They had a group of hippy kids moving from shelter to shelter in Shenandoah NP in the early 70s. I ran into them on Old Rag. They stayed the max number of nights and moved on. They were very accommodating, friendly, and sharing.

Tom's panty tanty
October 25 2002

Tom Jones says he's insulted when women throw their underwear at him - but only if they haven't been wearing them.

Jones is fed up with women bringing extra pairs of panties in plastic bags to his concerts to throw at him, saying that when the tradition began in the '60s, "the whole thing was authentic."

"Nowadays they bring along a plastic bag with their underwear in it," Jones tells German magazine Bunte.

"It has nothing to do with enthusiasm anymore. I actually take it as an insult.

"I give it my all onstage because I want to fill the crowd with enthusiasm - but that which comes from the heart and not out of a plastic bag."
