i don't know what im doin but it's workin. i've been losing 3-5 pounds a week. i've been changing my lifestyle, getting into exercising and eating right. it's been working but now im in hyper mode. i've had so much energy lately also.
i had to ease myself into a good diet and i've finally swore off fast food completely. that might have something to do with it but i can't believe how fast it's falling off lately.
it's gotta slow down soon, too good to be true.
since january: 53 lbs. 18 in the last month!!!!

Me Too!!!!
Since May (an all you can eat honey moon) I have dropped 25 lbs. Now at 167 lbs. Looking to get to 155....

We started back to the gym (take every summer off to backpack and what have you). But what has really helped is lopping off calories. I drank 2 liters of hawaiin punch daily, over 1000 calories gone each day.

Also bought a cheap book that tells the calorie counts on just about everything. Cutting back on meats, cheeses and reading labels in stores. Still eat everything, but just have smaller servings.

The recommended serving sizes will help. It takes some adjustment, but we have adjusted our diet slowly and are pretty happy with it. For example, I used to eat a bunch of oreos. Recommended serving size:3 calories in 3:150. Just got used to the smaller servings. Slowly, ever so slowly...

The weight came on over time, and it's going off the same way.

Wow, Josh, that's great! But now I feel like I am doing something wrong--I've "only" lost 15 lbs over the past 3 months. Actually, I am pretty excited about that!

Fast food must be avoided!
It is about 75% processed grease!

Soft drink/soda pop is another deadly sin.
Diet sodas may be low calorie but are deadly too. They can cause carbohydrate craving and give low doses of fromadyhide(aspartame converts to that stuff at about 90 degrees).

Avoid processed food of all kinds.

i'm with phil...
236# on july 10th, 194# last saturday. i've been following the weight watchers thing, which is very similar to what uphill says. exercise is a key. i haven't had to cut anything out of my diet other than quantity. awareness of what my habits were and what they needed to be provided a stark contrast. 42 pounds and 4 inches on my waist size so far. who knows where it will end.

i lost 20 pounds 2 years ago, still on the 105 lbs since then, but it's hard. no sweets, no nothing...once in a while, but then I can't eat anything for the next 2 days. (really sucks)

Especially if it's simple sugars, which you eluded to Gemini. If you don't burn them off right away, it goes right to fat. I found that once I was able to make myself quit drinking soda, the weight came off much faster.

i don't even drink soda at all. Water and one or 2 cups of coffee a day. I know it's the darn sugar though... sweets it's what's killing me...but it's so darn good.

i just don't have time to hike every day, hate the gym and don't like to walk around the neigborhood.

"I drank 2 liters of hawaiin punch daily, over 1000 calories gone each day."

Holy crap, UK! That's a lot of hawaiian punch! I remember reading the back of a 12oz can of HP and being shocked at the amount of sugar. I suppose one should realize it just based on the taste fo the drink.

Everyone here is right: Moderation is the key. I still enjoy an occasional can of soda, but not on a daily basis like many people. If people just cut fast food and limited their portion sizes, they could lose some weight with ease. Add in some regular exercise and you're all set.

Basically anything with high fructose corn syrup high in the ingredient list is crap. I was really surprised when I started looking at the labels on stuff about a year ago and saw how this junk is in EVERYTHING. And people wonder why half of the American population is overweight. This garbage has a lot to do with it!

yupp, i too read labels. in germany they don't even have all the info on the back label. I could not imagine not to check on the sodium, calories, fat, sugar, etc....

actually we here in the us have it easy. all we need to do is read and have a little discipline. ( i know that's easier said then done)

I've always gravitated toward the sugary snacks because they satisfy my sweet-tooth without much fat. Maybe that hasn't been such a good strategy.

42# is enough weight for a 7-day trip!

I lost only 10 pounds in a few weeks last spring.
I started having soup and a two-mile walk for lunch and have stuck to it.

To drastically oversimplify, fat is what signals your body that it's full enough. I don't avoid the good fats at all. I do avoid sugar like the plague, and processed food.

Oops premature submission...

Also I've found that most if not all low-fat foods have added sugar to compensate for the lost taste of the fats.
Read the labels! Sugar comes under many different names.

I also have a sweet tooth, but I satisfy it now with lots of fruits. I usually eat a banana, an apple, grapes, box of raisens, and an orange each day. I also drink a lot of fruit juice. Every now and then, I treat myself to chocolate, but I don't overdo it.

I've cut out the soda and fast food, for the most part. I used to crave that stuff, but don't anymore. I havn't lost anything, though, but that may have to do with the fact I'm not exercising regularly.

Keep up the good work, ductape!

Thanks a lot for losing all that weight everyone - apparently, it's all come over to ME! Not really working out (see the Injured Reserve thread) for almost a year, and I've gained 15, plus probably converted a bunch of muscle mass to fat. Closing in on my "eating starchy dorm food in college and studying too much" all-time heaviest weight. Ugh.

aero, It's T-minus 5 days until I start running again - just got clearance from the chiro to start up again. The ankle has actually felt great for a long time; it's the mystery hip problem that's had me getting fat. Yeah, I've been peeking at your photos from time to time - I drool over every one! Watch the Injured Reserve thread for a report on my "first" run next week.... For amusement (me in '79, me in '00):
