20% off of anything in stock
Friday 10/25 4pm-close
Saturday 10/26 all day

Must have proof of membershipo in an outdoor club.

I assume this is valied at all EMS stores nationwide. The postcard did have aspecific store address stamped on it, but I think that store just used the mailing list of the local AMC chapter.

They are also having a raffle, winner gets $100 and winner's outdoor club gets $1000.

Wow! I'm introducing some (female) colleagues to mountain hiking Saturday. We're going to do Cascade and have a beer at the Cottage in Lake Placid. Ther might be some serious temptation at EMS in Placid. Hmmmm.

I'd guess yes, to both gremlin and mapleleaf. I don't think they care what club it is. That's really just a gimmick to make us think we are getting a specal deal. They just want to move some merchandise.

Will they have my Patagonia mid-weight capilene turtleneck in black and extra large? Stay tuned to find out. It would be a first if they do.

You there? If you still want to meet at Monkeyville Mall, would tonight or tomorrow around noon be better?

I was thinking of heading up tonight after work. I will go tomorrow if that suits you better.

Geobeet, It turns out I will not be able to meet you this weekend. I was going to drive my daughter and her boyfriend home on Sunday but she called last night and she has a very bad cold. But maybe in Nov.

I was at the EMS store in Somerville last winter, and looked for the Patagonia mid weight for a gift to someone, and they said that they had them earlier in the season and were sold out. So hopefully you can find them today Geobeet. Why don't you go after work, and then meet Fritz there on Sat again, if he goes.

First of all your name sounds like a name of a POKEMON.

Call ahead to EMS and see if they have those and tell them to hold them for you. Good luck. Wish I had an EMS around here.

OMG, bbinkley, you have never shopped a sale in the northeast, have you? The salespeople cower in the stockrooms.

So that's where they hide out.

Thanks bbink. Good advice.

My grandson is the Pokemon expert in our family. He collected a full set of cards by wheeling and dealing with friends, then sold them. He bought a camping lantern with the proceeds.

I took him to the store, where he proceeded to pick out the biggest, best, and most expensive lantern.

With my discount and a few extra bucks I chipped in, he swung the deal. He insists on using it on camping trips.

Next we have to get him into backpacking, but he doesn't seem interested in that at the moment.
Geobeet

That won't work
I called and the Monkeyville store does not carry Patagonia anything. The Kinky Prussia store carries Patagonia, but not the midweight and not turtleneck.

The Monkeyville store does carry turtlenecks in materials other than capilene that supposedly wick moisture. I'm unsure. My thinking is to mail order from REI and get exactly what I want, but I may still trek to Monkeyville and see what they have and what it costs, maybe get one of each and see which works best for the price.

I have all winter to field test it on day hikes!

check Ems online as well. you can get the discount online too.

A little score
Ahah! Thanks again bbink.

Didn't buy their polyester shirts, but did pick up a Black Diamond Ion headlamp. It uses 2 LED lights and a little 6v battery, weights less than an ounce without the battery and not much more than an ounce with. Now I won't be the only person around the campfire without a headlamp. Kewl beans.

I'll check their website and see about the shirt.

They also gave me a raffle form. If you win you get a $100 gift certificate and they make a donation to your club.

They even give discounts to AAA club members. Don't ask me; I just shop there.

And all the store clerks were standing behind the counter waiting for customers to ask silly questions. That must be a first.

It's a shame the sale wasn't next weekend when I get my missing paycheck. What I could have done then! They have another club day in April. Hmm, that should be when the income tax refund comes if I file early enough. Hmmmmmmmm.

Oookay, ordered the Patagonia mid-weight Capilene shirt online and they gave the discount without even asking about a club.

I wonder if they'd give the store discount if you said 10 of clubs???

Dang I wish I had that check in the bank!

Welcome back LyndyS.

Is a purchase fiesta cashing a paycheck and spending more than the check was made out for?

If so, I am the king of the world of purchase fiestas. I darn near went on one last night. Oh well, beanie weenies next week!

Yeah Pennsy, me too!

I picked mine up in the store last night Stove. Wore it around the apt last night, limping around pretending it was the trail. I like mine. It is not overly bright, but adequate for working around camp and very light.

You would be amazed how little light you need once your eyes get adjusted.
I did a lot of caving in TN, AL, and GA when I lived in Knoxville years ago. Used a Premier Carbide Headlamp as my main light source.
If I could see with that, the ION headlamp will be very fine.

Went to the local EMS w/ birch and sass this afternoon. Missed the Club Day, but bought stuff anyway.

North Face wicking tank
2 Insulated Stainless Seal (totally sealable) mugs - one for my dad
EMS Plume - hydration pack

Then, followed that up w/ a trip to the local Benchmark for their used-gear sale where I scored a "used" (still w/ tag) pair of ExOfficio pants w/ sun protection and a Black Diamond Mega Mid!!

Oh yeah, and yesterday we (birch, sass and I) stopped at the Columbia Outlet store in Ontario after we left a dayhike w/ Reformed Lurker. Bought a MTR Fleece jacket w/ zip-off sleeves, zip-off hiking pants and a wicking long sleeve shirt.

What a GREAT weekend.

The Patagonia capilene midweight turtleneck arrived today. Of course I put it right on for a little test drive this evening. It should go well under the acrylic turtleneck sweaters I bought.

playtime
Yesterday:

Me walking around my yard, aerating the soil with my new Grivel G10s strapped to my new Asolo 535s. Then my snowshoes. Fired up the old whisper lite. Got the sleeping bag, thermarest and all the other gear out.

Must be time to go freeze my butt off.

Anyhoo . . .

Here is the quot re: the Precip

And some of these pieces are really incredible bargains. Marmot's Precip Jacket, for instance, has been a raging success in the outdoor world, with features that include a clamminess-fighting lining, full hood, and pit zips—all for the absurdly low price of $99. And it's a good jacket. I'd take it anywhere for general-purpose backpacking.
