Equinox Siltarp

“Does anyone know of a store where I can purchase the Equinox 10 x 12 siltarp? A local outfitter has it but they want a $105 for it. Trying to find it cheaper.

“I just ordered the 8x10 siltarp from Campmor. Only 13 ounces. This puppy is light.”

“Tarping is nice when it's not too cold out. I have to have my bug net under it though for sleeping. I can't stand the creepy crawlers and flying pests.”

“I use mine for that too when I bring a tent and really wet weather is expected. It is nice to have somewhere where everyone can hang out in the rain. The 6X8 version makes a nice vestibule for a tent if your tent doesn't have one. I bought one of the 6X8's off Oware for only $32 before he raised his prices.”

“Coverage is good for a vestibule on a small tent or for a hideout for a sudden shower when I'm out hiking or flyfishing. It folds up small and is superlight. I only slept under it once, but it didn't rain which was good. I toyed around with the idea of getting bivy and using it with that, but I don't know if I'd like sleeping in a bivy.”

“I have the 10X12 version also for sleeping under with a Trekker tarp mesh insert. I got that one for $91 before he raised his prices.”

“Rich's 10x12 is what we sat under when a thunderstorm hit one afternoon in June. There were four of us and Sparky the dog. We fit pretty good with our packs and all.”

“That's right, I remember we were trying to dodge the runoff that was starting to come under the tarp from the heavy rain.
One thing to be careful of when you're are using one of these sil tarps is to watch where you pitch it. A falling branch can easily damage them since the fabric is so light. A branch hit mine and put a couple small holes in it that I had to seal with silicone seal when I got home. Duct tape will not stick to it for a field fix so you don't want to get a big hole in your tarp on the trail. I always look up for loose branches before I pitch it anymore.”
