Isn't Tacoma in the "west" Washington. Those news agencies jump the shark much too often.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very interested in what is going on in the sniper case... but I just wish they would wait and tell us when they catch him and quit telling every little news story. It gets too many ppl hyped up. My aunt lives in Tacoma Washington and its pretty scary for me to hear that something is going on there right now. When in the end it might not even be related to the Sniper. Not to even mention what a thrill he gets seeing himself on the news every hour of the day.

Update
Tacoma is safe. Fox News is reporting that a former soldier at Ft. Lewis, Wash., formerly lived at the residence and apparently did target practice in the backyard.

They cut out a tree stump and carted it off (apparently the target?) along with other things.

They cut down brush and did grid search with metal detectors. This was all caught on videotape from news chopper.

Apparently they are looking for bullet fragments and shell casings.

FBI said search was carried out with consent, but they did have a search warrant.

Speculation is that DC sniper may be the former soldier.

No arrests anticipated in Tacoma.

11 pm
Police are seeking a John Allen Williams, aka Mohammed Williams, and a John Lee Malvo for questioning in the case. They are not being called suspects.

Williams served at Fort Lewis and lived in the Tacoma house.

Police are also looking for a blue and burgundy Chevy Caprice, with Jersey tags, said to be in the DC area.

Williams and Malvo now being described as armed and dangerous. Williams is 40, former soldier who served at Ft. Lewis and in the Gulf War. He was not a sniper but combat support.

Malvo is 17, a Jamaican citizen, and is Williams' stepson.

News here also said something about an Alabama connection, too.

Too weird.

Car is 1990 blue and burgandy Caprice, Jersey tag NDA-21Z.

Again, Williams and Malvo are described by police as armed and dangerous, but are not described as suspects. This is because the police don't want to list them as suspects and then find out they were innocent (Richard Jewel case, remember?).

Still awaiting Chief Moose briefing, now more than an hour late.

Marion, Alabama is linked somehow. There's a military school there, but I haven't heard how its linked. Thats why I wish they would quit telling these small bits of info. I don't want to know Alabama is linked either. I don't want to think the Sniper is that close to me.

The FBI is searching a location near Marion, Ala., known as Camp Ground Zero USA -- a place known to train militia groups. FBI sources told Fox News "they are not at liberty to comment" on the investigation and cannot confirm or deny their agents are investigating Camp Ground Zero USA

Ohh.. looks like there is a terrorist training camp in Alabama. Great!

Moose press conf just concluded.

Federal arrest warrant for Williams, aka John Allen Mohamed. Moose said press should not assume it is sniper related, but he is wanted for questioning. They released a photo of Williams in BDUs.

Moose also communicated to sniper, saying, "You wanted us to say, quote, we have caught the sniper like a duck in a noose." He then went on to ask sniper to contact them.

All very strange. There may be a larger web, as Miss Opie is suggesting.

Williams and Malvo still described as armed and dangerous.

There have been several notes left behind at this point, and very few of the details have been release. There apparently was some info that linked this guy with the case. How he is linked, and whether he might actually be the sniper, we do not know at this time. If the police know, they are not releasing details. It is an investigation, and hopefully there will be a court case at the end of the trail. So they cannot taint the investigation or the court case.

Also, they might have had a link to this guy but they do not have enough info to make him a suspect. If they can get him in for questioning, they may hope to break him down or have the kid dime him out in exchange for immunity (He might have been coerced into driving for dad).

All kinds of possibilities, and what little we have been told is extremely fragmented. The case still has a long way to go, but it might be the break. Then again, it might be another blind alley. But it's the first name they've released at all.

What isn't clear are the details of the wounds each victim has suffered. An experienced marksman would probably pay closer attention to the placement of a single round per person. Vital organs would be specific targets rather than just bullet grades that just cause a lot of damage.

Someone who just might be fair-handed with a long range scope and rifle could be an entirely different person compared to a military type.

Either way, this guy is shooting to kill and his days are numbered.

Those two may not be directly related to the sniper attacks, however. Chief Moose was directed to say "We have caught the sniper like a duck in a noose." WTF? sounds like some Middle Eastern mumbojumbo

They apparently got their man. What happened last night was a lot of semantical posturing caused by the fact that they did not want to reveal a whole lot, plus trying to meet the sniper's demand to avoid another possible killing.

The phrase that Chief Moose read was apparently an attempt to have him announce that they had the sniper, after which he would shoot somebody else to discredit police. They did not fall for that trap, instead carefully pointing out that they were saying what he demanded they say.

And it now looks as though the two were directly related to the attacks, but again, they wanted, if possible, to entice them to come in.

But by releasing descriptions of the suspect and the car, they got their men.

It was confusing last night, but the steady coverage brought out things bit by bit as reporters gleaned pieces of the puzzle.

Apparently this guy Muhammed is not the brightest bulb in the chandelier, although he is crafty enough to have done what he supposedly did.

Let's just hope these are, in fact, the guys and there are no more running around loose.
Geobeet

Seems that they caught their guys. I realize we do not have all the facts, so I could be wrong. But what has been reported thus far:

  1. A caller to the FBI tip line had bragged that a Montgomery, Ala., shooting in September was tied to the sniper, and Malvo’s fingerprints were reportedly found at that scene. Police on Thursday confirmed a call to the tip line but would not comment on the report of fingerprints.
  2. Malvo’s prints reportedly were also found on a piece of paper at one of the sniper crime scenes.
  3. A Jamaican bank account provided by the person communicating with police was tied to Malvo, said to have been born in Jamaica.
  4. In addition, the Baltimore Sun and Seattle Times reported that investigators had received a tip about Muhammad from a Tacoma-area phone.

A federal source told the Seattle Times that a friend of Muhammad’s and Malvo’s, made the call, saying he “had suspicions” about the pair.

The tipster reportedly said the two sometimes took target practice at the Tacoma home even though it is in the middle of a densely populated neighborhood.

The source added that the tipster said the two fired a rifle that uses .223 caliber bullets, the same as those in the sniper attacks.

Seems like strong evidence to me. I'm guessing that it was probably the 17 year old, who is most likely NOT the mastermind of this sniper attack, that bragged about the Ala. shooting.

If they found shell casings in Tacoma that match the sniper shell, then they will have powerful circumstantial evidence - probably enough to get a death sentence. From the sounds of things, they will have more than the shell casings. They are still planning to search the car today. They got the search warrant and plan a slow, methodical search starting on the outside and working in. If they find the rifle, oh well ...

CNN reported that a Bushmaster .223-caliber rifle, a scope and a tripod had been recovered from the suspects' vehicle.

A source also told CNN that the suspects' car -- a blue 1990 Chevrolet Caprice -- had been modified with a hole bored in the trunk, which could allow someone to shoot from inside the vehicle.

At a midnight news conference Wednesday, Moose delivered another message to the sniper, urging him to contact police. "You have indicated that you want us to do and say certain things. You asked us to say, 'We have caught the sniper like a duck in a noose.' We understand that hearing us say this is important to you," Moose said.

The federal charges are capital offenses. Maryland might wuss out, but Virginia would not.

Kiss their butts goodbye! It might take 10 years, but they are gonners.

It was like John Walsh said last night, they would be turned in by a citizen and they would be begging for mercy when the police cornered them. If they didn't beg for mercy, it was because they didn't wake up until the cuffs were on.

There is nothing in a life sentence that equals the 10 lives taken and the three screwed up forever, or the grieving people left behind, not to mention an entire region paralyzed for what was it ... three weeks?

Put them in the middle of the Beltway or I-95 at rush hour with big signs around their necks and the angry motorists will take care of business.
