This time it's in Russia
Sniper killings in the States, bombs going off in Bali, Philipines, Spain...and of course Israel, natural disaters in China, Africa and Europe etc.

Now some armed Chechen rebels have taking 100's of hostages in a Russian theatre. The rebels are armed with automatic machine guns, grenades, explosives, mines and gasoline canisters.

They want Russia to end the Chechen war. I don't think it's going to happen...therefore there's going to be a bloodbath. Sad.

It's a question of scale, too.

Why is it then that positive events of similar magnitude are not visible or with us?

Or, "I've seen then enemy and the enemy is me."

What about..

Child abductions
Corporate fraud
Insider trading
Schoolyard shootings
Corruption in politics
Sex abuse among Priests
Anthrax poisonings
Infidelity
Murder
Blah, blah, blah

If there's continued escalation and we don't reverse course, where will this all lead?

Think I'll step up that Ark construction I've got going. See you on the other side.

In a humanities course (alot of years ago), I read a paragraph where God says he will not flood the earth again.

He'll probably nuke our @sses (die by flame you sinners).

One human heart at a time
It was granted to me to carry away from my prison years on my bent back, which nearly broke beneath its load, this essential experience: how a human being becomes evil and how good. In the intoxication of youthful successes I had felt myself to be infallible, and I was therefore cruel. In the surfeit of power I was a murderer and an oppressor. In my most evil moments I was convinced that I was doing good, and I was well supplied with systematic arguments. It was only when I lay there on rotting prison straw that I sensed within myself the first stirrings of good. Gradually it was disclosed to me that the line separating good and evil passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties either, but right through every human heart, and through all human hearts. This line shifts. Inside us, it oscillates with the years. Even within hearts overwhlemed by evil, one small bridgehead of good is retained; and even in the best of all hearts, there remains a small corner of evil.

Since then I have come to understand the truth of all the religions of the world: they struggle with the evil inside a human being (inside every human being). It is impossible to expel evil from the world in its entirety, but it is possible to constrict it within each person.

All that stuff was happening 30 years ago- we just didn't hear about it. Growing up, we only could get 2 channels on a black and white TV which we hardly ever watched. Now, someone hiccups and there's 50 satellite news trucks in your neighborhood.

Stanlee

That paragraph comes from the Bible. It's the conclusion of the Noah and the Ark story. G-d promises to never destroy the world again. Doesn't say that he won't let humanity to do it, though!

Aero

I think your right. There was much going on that we never heard about because the ability to dispense information was poor, and the ability to conceal things was high.

If for one day everyone in the world would stop killing and hurting each other what do you think a 24 hour day would be like?

Actually, crimes of passion are right up there as one of the top reasons for murder.

CMB
I agree. Not that you might not make a good President, but can't imagine why anyone would want that job. The stress, no personal life, and what ever you say or do is wrong in someone's eyes!

Imagine the secret service standing around your tent when you and evergreen call it a night!

Population Boom
CMB...if nobody killed anybody for a 24hr period, we would have a population boom. We would run out of natural resources....we can't have that!!!

Thanks for the heads-up on the Noah's Ark info, Stumprider.
