I need help in finding a warm jacket for my chihuahua. He weighs 4 pounds. He is about 6 inches tall and about 12 inches long.

He hikes with me in the summer but I want to be able to take him in the fall and spring as well without him getting cold.

Anyone seen anything out there?

You've got to be kidding.

Why not get a rain jacket with a Napoleon pocket and just carry it?

Just go to a local fabric store. THey all carry microfleece real cheap, and it doesn't need hemming. Cut out the size and shape you need, and use adhesive-backed velcro tabs for fasteners. You'd be done making it in an hour.

It's real easy, and if there's any sewing you can do it by hand. The main piece is saddle-shaped and would connect underneath, and if you wanted to add sleeves that's just some short tubes.

Those darn things are so thin; I think he'll need a down jacket! Go to Pets Mart and browse! They have everything there!!

That is perfect. I'm fixing to order the camo fleece for him now.

TT'ers know everything.

I don't recommend the camo. YOu'll never be able to spot him if he takes off. And then there's hunting season, you want the little guy visible.

My dog doesn't even bark. He whines a little bit when he's trying to get in my lap or up on the couch.

Get a real dog. Never own a dog that can get its hiney kicked by a squirrel. Especially a psycho squirrel.

Chihuahua-Clava?
Couldn't you just make him something out of a large Polartech sock? Available cheap at Walmart or Target...picture his chest in the heel (with holes for his legs), the sole of the sock cut out for his face, the toe of the sock for a hood (with ear holes of course), and the top of the sock cut to the appropriate size/shape/length to allow unobstructed bodily functions.

Are you talking about your dog, or have you nicknamed your willy "cihuahua"?

Bbinkley have you got any extra wool socks? Cut a hole for his face and ears, legs and you're set. Wool might be better than regular fleece, it keeps one really warm when wet, and I imagine Shadow gets a bit damp running through the grass.

Whoa.
A little tiny streaker.

I knitted a pair of leg warmers for my Mom's teacup poodle once. It was supposed to be a joke. She really liked them and the dog wore them every winter after that. It was darned cute and she stopped wussing about going "out" in the snow.

Whatever works.

Good idea skully. The link above has some cool fleece stuff I'm purchasing.

1) Hot dog bun
2) a large woolen mitten
3) a winter hat
4) your back pocket
5) wool sock
6) in a larger dogs mouth
7) a large nalgene filled with coffee (he does swim right?)
8) a wet suit bootie
9) tin foil wrapper (bake at 350 for 2 hrs turning often, baste as necessary)

BBinkley I hope this helps.
