I just got a call from my brother and my sister-in-law had just dropped off the children and was pulling into a drive way when a truck (SUV) travling 80mph slammed into the back of her van. Im not sure what the hell is going on other then they took her by ambulnce(sp) and my brother is there at the hospital waiting for some kind of info.
So my brother and his wife could use some TT prays please..

Thank God they were in school already. The little ones sit in the back. Even though everyone wears seatbelts, it still could have been bad for them. The car is totaled! It was brand new.
Thank you for the prays...
still no word, other then she had her belt on and had to cut her out of the car..

When I first read Mapleleaf's post about her sister-in-law (and a couple other recent posts requesting prayers came to mind). I was thinking - is this real - if I had a loved one laying in the hospital would I rush over to my computer and post it on the internet ?
But now I realize that all of you are, in some special way, a group of close friends that share a special interest - you are like a family.
Sure you pick on each other and insult everyone, but you also depend on the love and support of your backpacking friends.
I have only been here for a short time, but I look forward to becomming one of the TT gang.
just my thoughts,

Sorry To Hear Of This Event
I saw a program on vehicle safety last night. It started with in the 80s with the necessity for cars to be more fuel efficient, hence smaller vehicles. Well a lobby group for the right to own the car you want to own fought this on the grounds that people are more likely to die in smaller less impact resistent vehicles...so larger vehicles, mainly the SUV, started to become the fashion.

Well, now it turns out that more people die from these larger vehicles 1) because of topheavieness and tendency to roll over (killing those in the larger vehicles), and 2) because they sit so high that the bumpers smash into the doors and over the bumpers of smaller cars, hence killing those in the smaller vehicles. What irony! Anywho... that's it.

Sorry to get offtopic, and truely sorry to hear of this accident.

Yes Dawn, we do close ranks when somebody asks for help, and when we need help we can always reach out and people respond.

And usually we pick on one another in fun. We can all take it, and we can all dish it out. Some people don't understand that.

We are family, though sometimes on the dysfunctional side.

And yes, there are louts. They say much about themselves, so nuff said.

Maple, ignore that idiot and hang in there. We are with you. Please keep us posted.

Buddur, I agree with you about the history of SUVs. When I was a teen, the little cars became popular, and getting the highest gas mileage was the contest. I know that there are people who need these Tahoes and Sequoias but a lot of people are driving them when they would do just as well with a small car. My Subaru Outback gets more than 25% more gas mileage than my minivan. The minivan was purchased so that I could landscape the yard and put sheetrock and plywood in, but the Subaru's better gas mileage is so welcome. The 11 hour drive to Maine was much more comfortable since the seats seemed to be sized better for me too.

But back to the subject, I'm sorry that Mapleleaf's family is having another crisis. I hope that the sister-in-law is not badly injured.

Solitary-
Sometimes when your fam. member is laying in the hospital, there is nothing else you can do. You may not be able to see them and the waiting and worrying about how they are kills you. That's why I posted about prayers for my little sis and the Newest Twin Pack. There was nothing else for me to do and I was really worried about them. Also, the power of prayer/good vibes just can't be doubted. The more people that are prayin' the better.

I was sure I had posted on this thread earlier. Perhaps I accidentally posted on another thread? Anyway, I'm glad to hear she is awake - the not being allowed to see her part didn't sound too good. Said a prayer earlier and will keep them in over the weekend.

A play by play drama concerning a loved one??? This is worse than Connie Chunk. Does mapleleaf have NO friends/family?
