Didn't have time to chat before now and answer any questions and so forth.

I am of the female persuasion, originally from NoCal, and live in Baltimore.

Thanks for all your helful advice, literary illumination (thanks to tilt), and just plain crap, too.

I will definately do smaller trips before the one I'm planning. that was an excellent suggestion to do a roadtrip (thank you pathman and gojo).

best to you all

Any time leener. Have fun hiking, and stick around, you'll have fun here.

Well leener, if you're in Balmer, you have Shenandoah, the GW National Forest, the Monongahela NF, the AT through Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, and a few other options. You also have Tom Terrific living nearby.

There are all kinds of East Coast trips planned or about to take place, plus more coming in the spring. Keep checking.

Good luck. The crap is free. The advice costs. But we are all equal opportunity jerks. We pick on everybody regardless of race, color, religion, nationality, economic status, sexual orientation, eye color, species, or interest. Just think of it as acceptance.

Don't forget the most important piece of advice: dogs do not belong in the backcountry.

LNT = LDH.

I tried to be civil once, but it landed me in the hospital. When I finally came to, I said, "Never again!"

BTW - if you live in B-More, you'll have to check out Dolly Sods in WVa. and or the North Fork Mountain Trail (both in Mongonahala(sp) National Forest

Whatever you do, ignore Micah. His mommy won't let him have a doggy, so he doesn't want anybody else to have one either. Some day he will be big and strong and be able to talk about other things.

I went to high school in the DC area. My first backpacking trip was as a senior on spring break in Shenandoah NP. Nice place!

micah is jealous...
cause he has to use 2 hands to pee...dogs can do it with no hands...and balance on 3 legs.

If ya wanne see something funny...when a male dog is peeing and he is hiking his leg...knock em over...its called "peeing dog tipping" not nearly as much fun as cow tipping, but its still funny.

Be careful stikmon, cow tipping may be a felony in Iowa.

I'd be worried about getting sprayed from an out-of-control doggie wiener.

Leener, you actuallly sound real. Good to have you on the site. There are lots of good places to hike close to where you live, so enjoy! If you ever want to hike Kansas, let me know. I'll send a psychiatrist.

Always remember that any advice is worth exactly what you paid for it, <G>.

Yep! Those rapidfire questions automatically made me think of the White Knight's Song. Before I knew what hit me, it was pasted into the thread.... there wasn't a thing I could do about it.

Linda Blair always said that possession was 9/10 of the law....
