Angel From Montgomery
John Prine

I am an old woman named after my mother
My old man is another child that's grown old
If dreams were lightning thunder was desire
This old house would have burnt down a long time ago

Chorus:
Make me an angel that flies from Montgom'ry
Make me a poster of an old rodeo
Just give me one thing that I can hold on to
To believe in this living is just a hard way to go

When I was a young girl well, I had me a cowboy
He weren't much to look at, just free rambling man
But that was a long time and no matter how I try
The years just flow by like a broken down dam.

Repeat Chorus:

There's flies in the kitchen I can hear 'em there buzzing
And I ain't done nothing since I woke up today.
How the hell can a person go to work in the morning
And come home in the evening and have nothing to say.

Repeat Chorus:

I did when he was young and raw. He only had two albums out so he sang all those songs plus some that ended up on Common Sense. Great concert.

Hey steve hiker, how does a guy like you manage to sruvive to 42?

Never left the south, I guess. If you did, someone would adjust your attitude for you.

In fact I'd be quick to do it myself, but here we are on the internet. Everyone is faceless, nameless and ten feet tall.

Loser.

I've lived outside the South when I was younger, in California, and I would have left the South again years ago had it not been for personal ties that keep me here. When I do travel outside the deep south, it is refreshing to be in a predominantly white population and culture. That is my preference, like it or not.

As to your threats ULTRAPacker, that exposes your low intellect and primitive mental attitude. People like you and FG rarely get past name calling and threats.

Yeah, okay, and racist remarks make you look like Einstein.

As for the "threats", you can take what I said any way you want. Maybe I was saying I would sit down with you, face to face, and discuss your opinions.

As for the name calling: I call it like I see it.

LOSER.

Blame another race for the fact you live in a trailer with your mother if you want, but I'd say you just come from bad stock.

Loser stock.

Have a nice life. I hope we get to have that face to face discussion sometime.

Gee Stevorino-
Racial purity-what a concept, Mengele & Eichmann would be so proud of you.

BTW- I would hardly call California
the south-

I'm forty years old and have lived all over this country and the world and as I was growing up only white trash used the word nigger.

It is a free country and you are allowed to think as you wish, but we are free to think you are a racist-
Seig Heil you ignorant ass.

Steve, we don't have many African-Americans up here. You are right on that. However, we do have lots of Native Americans. That is a non-white part of my culture, but their skin color difference doesn't make me inclined to call them negative names. Your a lawyer, right? You listen to reasoned arguments all the time.

The difference between me and a Native American and you and an African-American is the level of skin pigmentation. Why would you feel so extreme over skin pigment as to refer to another human being in a negative sense? It seems to me like you would need a much larger, less benign reason to hate an entire group of people. And even if you had in some way been wronged by a memeber of that group, it would still be a reflection only of that person, not the group as a whole. For instance, when I was in junior high, there was a Native American girl from another town that I met at camp. She was awful. She was rude. She didn't play sports fair and she cheated at other types of games. She hated me and others because we were white. That was just her though, I knew then and know now, many Native Americans that are great people.

What if I decided today to hate all people, the world over, w/ blue eyes. I don't have blue eyes, I have hazel eyes. Let's say I would prefer to hang only w/ hazel eye-colored people, would never hang w/ those damned blues, and would prefer not to hang w/ the browns and greens (I'd deal w/ them if I had too, at least they aren't as bad as the blues). That would make so little sense. It would limit my world alot. What color are your eyes Steve? What if they were blue and I missed my opportunity to meet a great guy, 'cause I hated them damned blue eyes?

Well, if that is the issue, you could still just use the word, black or the word, indian. You don't have to use a nasty one. Know what I mean, Vern?

I have been attacked because I am white.
I have been beaten because I was white.
My brothers and son have been attacked because we are white.

Walk in my shoes. I made a commitment to myself that I would die before I took another beating for being white.

It works for me.

If you don't hate them then why use a hateful term to describe them? A persons choice of language reveals much about that person.

Me too bacpac, but I don't hate the whole race. Likewise I'm not about to apologize or be ashamed of my race.

I spent a few years growing up as the only white kid (and my brother too) in a black neighborhood north of Chicago. I never could understand why there were folks who hated me for my skin color. Please don't think for a second racist only refers to white folk. I know plenty of racist black and asian people.

Steve Hick
Nice breeding! You carry the genes well. Tell ya what, ... let's see now big your nads are. Come up to Philadelphia, walk around talking like that, and see how strong your feelings are. Put them to the test. You do that and I'll stop calling you a dumb a$$ bigot.

I've gone on trips with African American kids wrestling with self identity and racism, kids trying to make something of their lives in spite of problems you can't even imagine, and I'd damn sure rather spend time with them than you. Those kids have forgotten more about sensitivity in 16 years than you have learned in 42.

Take a hike you useless hick.

You're so ignorant you haven't even got a clue how ignorant you are, and that is the lowest kind of dumb.

You aren't smart, you aren't cute, and you aren't funny.

I personally find you the worst kind of offensive.

Hey Opie, glad to have you here down in Pinetree central. Yeah, the hiking sucks. I live on the West side of Conecuh N.F. Over in Atmore. What brings you down here from glorius T'town? Oh yeah, you guys with the racist agenda need to chill a little. There is much I dislike about black culture. There is a good deal I don't like about my own also. Just wanted you folks elsewhere to know we aren't all in the Klan.

self identity
My grandmother called them niggrahs
My parents called them negros
Then they were colored
Then they were black
Now they are African Americans

I have always been American.

bacpac, I was just getting to post something like that also.
I remember 30 yrs ago when I worked with a negro and he got upset because I didn't call him black. A lot of it depends on where you were brought up. My in-laws (from Indiana) still call them niggers. Is it beasue they don't like them...no it is just how they were raised and that is what they were called when they were young.
BTW, I call them black and I refuse to call them African Americans. I like bacpac am a American, not a Irish or Scottish or etc,etc American.

One time we stopped off at the home of some African-American friends to drop off a loaf a bread. The husband, I think he was into his martinis and before he opened the door I could hear him say to his wife, "It's our favorite white people." Still get a chuckle out of that!

I don't think you really want to hear what I said on my wedding night. Something inside just tells me to shut my big mouth. For once I'll listen to the voice inside. Just this once, mind you.

I've spent most of the day tilting with Conservancy board members on windmills. Me 'ead 'urts!

I've been raked over the coals and I don't like it one bit. The prospect of a frustrated old curmudgeon was not what I had in mind for this fight. I don't mind losing, but I want to kick some butt on the way down. I don't think we even landed a tap.

Can't even drown my sorrows with Glenfiddich because it would interfere with the rat poison.
