Enigma, GA.
The origin of the name is a mystery to this day.

There was an (NPR?, GPR?) story about it a few years ago.

Residents of Crapo Street in Oakland County want to change the name of their street.

I bet the people who live in this Austrian town would change the name too, if it were in and English-speaking country.

On the Pa. Turnpike there is a bridge with the name Bridge Road fixed to it.

Which makes the bridge the Bridge Road Bridge, I guess.

In the Lone Star state, they post the name of the water course you are crossing via a highway bridge. I forget exactly where in Texas I saw this, but there is a stream called "Woman Hollering Creek". I suspect there is a very interesting story behind that...

Geobeet made me thing of another weird road name. In Lower Bucks County, PA just north of Philadelphia, a major road through the area is PA 132, which is also named "Street Road". Its an exit off I-95. Again, there must be a really interesting story behind this seemingly redundant name.....

The mayor of an Austrian town called F&*#$@g has urged tourists from Britain to refrain from removing the road signs.

Siegfried Hauppl said the small town always attracted a lot of attention from tourists driving up from nearby Salzburg to pose for pictures in front of the signs.

However, the money the tourists spent in the area has failed to soften the blow of having to replace the signs which have become popular as souvenirs.

"We had a vote last year on whether to rename the town, but decided to keep it as it is.

"After all, F&*#$@g has existed for 800 years, probably when a Mr F&*k or the F&*k family moved into the area. The 'ing' was added as a word for settlement."

Apparently the villagers found out about the English meaning of the word from British and American soldiers stationed in the area in 1945 started arriving in large numbers.

Hauppl said: "We all know what it means now, but for us F&*#$@g is F&*#$@g - we don't give it a second thought."

Franz Duernsteiner, an expert on bizarre Austrian village names, said the residents of F&*#$@g were actually very "conservative" people.

He said: "Most of them can speak English, and when someone asks them where they come from they are a little ashamed to say it."

Residents of two other Austrian communities, Windpassing and Wank on the Lake, suffered a similar reluctance, he added.

Farfrompoopen Road, the only road to Constipation Ridge, lost to Divorce Court and Psycho Path, which placed No. 1 in an online poll of the nation's wildest, weirdest and wackiest street names.
