sweaty feet

“I've been noticing this problem more and more with sweaty feet. My feet aren't hot - they jsut seem to sweat just enough, 4 seasons a year to get my socks wet and give me cold feet. I've tried what are advertised as the wick away socks and also the poly sock liners - not to too much good effect. The best that I have come up with is a shear nylon men's sock underneath a cotton sock. It works a little. I've also tried anti-persperants for several days to little or no effect. It doesn't matter what kind of boot, shoe or sneaker I wear, always the same problem. Other than moving to Florida and walking on a sandy beach in bare feet year yound, does aanyone have any kind of a solution to this? Thanks.”

“Are you wearing boots with a GTX liner?”

“Rub a little antiperspirant on your feet. It helps a lot.”

What are gtx liners? I have the same problem with or without boots.”

“Brand doesn't matter, though you might want to stick with fragrance-free. Just make sure it's actually an antiperspirant and not just a deodorant.”

“Are your boots gore tex lined? If so, that may be the problem as it can limit the breathability of the boots.”

“I see. Sorry. Sounds like you have naturally sweaty feet. Give the anti-perspirant a try.”

“My goretex boots do not cause my feet to sweat. I walked in the rain all day today (ten miles) my feet were nice and cozy.

What data do you have to support goretex causes feet to sweat, rosey?”

“Don't get all defensive over your gear choices, bp. Just stating that might be a cause. I think it's safe to say that something with a GTX does not breath as well, say, uncoated fabric or leather.”

“Thanks for all of the responses. I have used antipersprants (off the shelf with the strongest formula) to no effect after several days use. Also this occurs no matter waht shoes that I wear- even leather loafers. Has anyone seen a magazie article on this topic? I'll have to go to the reader's guide to find out.

“Maybe if your feet were in better shape, they wouldn't sweat so much. I recommend a vigorous daily foot workout of, say, skipping rope, running stadium stairs and beating carpets...

“change socks a few times a day. let the damp ones dry by hanging them from your pack while hiking. remove the insoles from your boots when you stop for a break and at night to allow them to dry. try poly liners with wool or wool/cotton blend socks.”

“A trick I picked up in Nepal was to stop and have a cuppa every 3 hours (or there abouts) kick off my boots and let my feet breath and dry.

Your feet might have an aversion to synthetic fibres? Try good old fashioned Merino wool socks. Look for ones that have a very fine micron fibre(less itch). The best selection,I think, you can get over there is made by "Smart Wool".

I wouldn't use anti persperants as all this does is tell your feet to start sweating more to compensate.”
