Canada is the number one supplier of foreign oil to the U.S. - larger than Saudi Arabia.

Canada supplies us with a larger number of immigrants per year than any other country.

Canada is our largest foreign trading partner. Oh, BTW, half of that trade passes through and over the tunnel and bridges in the Detroit area.

Upper Midwesterners probably have more in common with Ontarioans than than we have with Californians or Southerners.

Canada isn't bad. But it's not utopia. And it helps that they'll never have to spend more than a few pennies on national defense.

ULTRA, Tilt had two Irish grandmothers and grandfathers of English and German extraction. He took two years of French in high school when he should've taken Spanish.

While they don't like to be seen as the same as us, they almost always stand beside us in time of trouble.

I love this thread, BUT....
Upstate New York gets all my recreation bucks.

It's funny how we Canadians have a love-hate relationship with our own country. Our humour rocks, however, and I wonder just how many of you guys see what's going on on the Red Green show because it's one huge inside joke.

If you have a chance, lobby your local PBS to get 'Escape from the Newsroom'. It played on CBC last night and it was outrageously funny.

It pisse$ me off that our parks charge an entry fee and we get lousy park maintenance. New York State rocks.

I read recently that nearly 4 in 10 Americans favor annexing Canada. I think that is about the same percentage as those who favor war with Iraq if things were to get messy and drawn out. I think given the support, we should try out the Bush Doctrine of pre-emptive war a little closer to home before we go traipsing around the world invading countries that oppose our ideas. We could portray it as a ‘liberation’. We’d be saving them from a crummy dollar and giving them a chance to be part of a first-rate country.

Has it ever been sung or played the same way twice? I rest my case. "America the Beautiful" can be sung, sounds better, and expresses better ideas. It's also more stately. Stately is good. I like stately.

I like Oh Canada better than the Star Strangled Banner. But then I don't hear it all the time. Maybe national anthems are like newspapers: the other guy's are always better than yours.

Like a different country
I was in Montreal during a transit strike one summer, walking down Rue Ste. Catherine. Traffic was heavy, and a cop was standing in the middle of an intersection directing traffic. He motioned for the traffic to stop, and a guy blazed through the intersection just missing the cop. The cop just waved his hand at the guy as if to say, "Go on, get outa here!"

Further down the rue, a car was double parked, causing a massive jam. A cop pulled up behind him, got out of the car, spoke a few words, the man drove off, the cop drove off, and traffic began moving again.

In the US, both incidents would have triggered tickets, but more importantly, traffic would have been stopped while the cops wrote the tickets.

Just amazing!
