Sorry for the lac of response. I've been at it fer a long time now and TT time has been rare.

Update:

I received my Comparison/contrast 5 page essay with a 94% and a ".....please keep setting the bar high amoung your peers...." note on it.

I have a 10:30 am appointment at the OCC campus (the community college I go to) to talk about what I wanna do and what clsses I shoudl take. Kerry and I have been talking about this a lot lately......looks like I might be at going into Library Media Specialist. With that, I would have to get that nasty teaching degree......so it looks as though SOMEONE'S master plan of me being a teacher might have to come to be, even if it is at default. LMS is a grad program, so I don't know if this will/can all happen in my alotted time peroid.

So, as it stand now, I have the above appointment with the OCC people, and I have a meeting down at Wayne to see what they might be able to do for me. We'll see. There's not alot of places out there that do this kinda thing.

Hey guys!

I'm loving all this talk! My fiance, K, is graduating on May 15 with her Master's Degree. I'm getting excited!

Smiley! I don't know how long it's going to take for you to get your teaching certificate, but you should look into subbing 17 days the year before you start so you can purchase service credit in the state retirement system at a pro rated sub pay rate. It could end up saving you like $20,000.

Q - good luck at Wayne. Let me know who you end up talking to there. I'm in the grad program there, if you want any info, let me know.

RL - thanks for the info. The boyfriend has been telling me this for a little while, so when I get closer, I'll look into that.

hike and KAYAK! Digmans Ferry is a very cool place. little funky town.

major congrads to you!! you worked hard and deserve nothing but the best.

LQ, im glad you did not take Liberal Arts. The way your going will be more furfilling in the long run. May I suggest start volunteering within your field. that way you get to know people and have a foot in the door.

everything i have learned and done has come from volunteering.
so good luck and tell us how the meeting went!

Funny thing -

Yesterday, I got a call at work from the person who I have my meeting with next week.

She tells me that she hasn't gotten a chance to pull my records, but she thinks that from what's she's seen, she should be able to process my *something* in order for me to grautate in June----something or other, blah, blah, blah......for about 30 seconds..........ah...I wasn't event requesting nothing but a 1/2 meeting to see if they offered Library Media Specialist......

she had me mixed up with someone else.

I wonder how many times a day this happens do there?

"how many times a day this happens do there......."

WTF is up with DAT!?!?

hehehehee

I hung up the phone thinking, Damn! Did I just get Smiley's phone call she's been waiting four weeks for?

LOL!

I don't know if I could go there. I talked to the Media Specialist at work and she said that what I have to do is get certified to teach......in anything, but make sure it's something that you would like to teach, because if you are employed at a school, they could put you in the classroom. After you get certified, then you go to Grad school for Library Media Specialist thingy.

The other thing about this field, it's basically "keepers of the archives", so I could work at a medical office, Legal firm, public Librarys.......So, I'm thnking about doing Library Science, which might be the same thing, without the teaching thing part.

Whelp, looks like eventually, I'll have to retake some of the courses I screwed up on back in da day. Good thing, they'll satisfy my liberial arts for OCC and tranfer to Wayne, but they don't know if Wayne will take those credits to satisfy Wayne's liberial arts degree.

So! Next biggie:

Meet with WSU next week.

Meantime, I'm siging up for these for the summer session -

Michigan History
Pol Sci 1510
and prolly ANT 1520 - Anthropology

I wonder how much plasma it'll take to pay for all this?
laqtis

Q - I found with Wayne that they're pretty liberal when it comes to transfer credits. I complained when I couldn't find a physics class at night, and they used one of my chemistry credits to cover my physics class. That's pretty liberal, IMO. I was having touble getting a math class too, and they told me just to take it at a community college. So at least the education department has been pretty nice to me in that regard.

I can't wait to get in to school. In order to make this whole idea fly, is how soon do I quit my job? I only have another 9 weeks or so to go, any ways.

Classes start before I "would be done" at work.

you taking daytime or evening classes, Q? sounds like daytime if you're worried about how to mix it in with work. i think you'll be ok - its a few weeks before the next semester starts anyway.

i skipped class last night. i had a horrible day at work, no sleep the previous two nights, the freeway on the way to school is under construction, and i just couldn't make myself go.

Sometimes that happen, SG. I missed two weeks ago for similar reasons.

My wife and I talked last night at great length.......it would seem as though I will be leaving my employment a little earlier than first thought. Lke I said before, one of the classes I'm taking starts on 5/10 and I half to take it in order to meet my time goal.

Kerry is "giving" me 6 years to get my bac.....I'd like to get my Masters.......:)

Cool!

We're in the home strech in my class, however, a major detour happened today.

The peeps in my class are not real interested in class discussion. If it wasnot for myself and a handful of others, it would be pretty ugly. Were are doing Lit Analysis and in the process of this, we have to read "shorts" from handout he gives us in class. I've always tried to stay current with the reading list; falling behind would be tough to recover from at this point in the schedule.

We wrapped up from last weeks discussion and move on to our next story. He starts getting into the beginining of the lecture and asks who has really read it (after seeing me answer most of the opeing questions) and we find out the only myself and one other have done the reading assignment.

So, after handing out our other three "shorts" for next weeks discussion, he dismisses class after he tells us that we will have one quiz per story, for a total of four. I have no real deep problem with what happened with this added work load, but I hate get the shaft for others failures.

Tans me hide a tad.....

I'm looking at my schedule for this upcoming semester. I'll be taking one full semester class (14-15 weeks?) and two excellerated classes in the "2nd semester" part of Summer. Looks like a 5 week Poli Sci class and 8 week World Civ class. I'll be in prime shape for those Poli threads (or real burnt of Politics!) by August, just in time for the election year.

I'm kidding....:P

no you're not, Q. :)

had a test last THursday in my class. i don't think it was my best performance due to the hrs. i've been putting into studying for my other big test, and ignoring my classwork. i'm sure i still passed, just probably didn't get an A. no biggie.

i have to make sure i pay my tuition soon, so that good old We Screw U doesn't screw me over with a late fee. ug.

Well - today is the day!
Day is the last day in my first English class. I have to turn in my final draft of my Lit analysis paper (on Flannery O'Connor's "Good Country People").

Took me a total of 12 hours to finish, and it'll prolly suck, I have never written one before, so it's tuff to judge were this one will hit.

So far, I think I getting a decent grade; I've gotten pretty much A's and a couple of B's during the semester.

Next week - I start summer courses!

bit - nope, the one yer talking about is "A Good Man Is Hard To Find"

Reading that one kinda f---ed me up, as I have two small kids and the story hit a nerve.

Flannery was a pretty phucked up writer for that time (early 20th century)

That's too bad Mapleleaf. I lucked out and only ended up taking out one loan that's already been paid back. You must be working alot??? That's the only reason I can think of why you'd get turned down for FA and apply early. The earlier the better, that way they don't run out of money and you can apply for anything they'll give you. I also did work-study.
