Good job kiddo! (LOL)” 9:54:16 AM 7/09/03 “Mapleleaf! That is very cool. Isn't a big rush! Smiley, are you going to have to quit to student teach anyway? Q! Would you ever consider classroom teaching? You could be a way cool science teacher and do lots of outdoor experiments. I still have little voices in my head that say law school, but that is more of a long-term project.” 10:20:10 AM 7/09/03 “lurker, very very big rush!! thats a great idea. he could be the Mad Scienctest! "come on kids, lets go down to the river and see what life lurks there" very cool idea!” 10:24:23 AM 7/09/03 “RL - I don't know. I've taught summer school and night school in TV Production before and my Principal wants me to go back in the classroom part time to teach TV at our school. I don't really like it too much.....I always feel like my zipper is down or something weird like that. He's been bugging me to go back for teaching, but I fear that by the time I get done, I'll have to take a pay cut and be right ack where I'm at right now. Maybe one teacher in the family is enough. good suggestion though, I do like science a lot......” 10:27:04 AM 7/09/03 “but you could be the next Bill Nye the science guy.” 10:29:11 AM 7/09/03 “Bill Nye RULES!!!!” 10:32:43 AM 7/09/03 “Yeah, RL, I'll have to quit then, but that's a few years away. Seems a lot cleaner just to do the one year program, but I'm not sure how I'd pay the mortgage!” 10:34:22 AM 7/09/03 “we should all move into a big house and hire teachers to come to US! would that work SG? :)” 10:40:07 AM 7/09/03 “SG - start saving now. It's only four months and you'd have to work fulltime at night. If you could student teach the second semester, you could work fulltme in the summer during the day and hopefully have employment by the fall....” 10:41:55 AM 7/09/03 “"its so hard! i think if i was not married w/out children it would be easier. but it is hard." mapleleaf 09:53:16 AM 07/09/03 Everything's easier when you're not married and you don't have children. I went to law school at night for four years. Your three weeks will pass in a flash and you'll be happy you did it this way.” 10:48:21 AM 7/09/03 “Everything is easier if you're single with no kids. Especially stuff like bringing home strange women.” 10:49:27 AM 7/09/03 “I could see Q as a tech guy for Michigan Out of Doors or something like that. Do you hunt? :) pssst... zip up your fly... the family jewels are showing...” 10:53:39 AM 7/09/03 “LMAO @ RL! I like Michigan out of Doors. Its on just when Thursday night TV gets boring. Maple, I like your idea. Let's let everyone else do all the work in bringing our educations to us. ;) But, dear, I have to diasgree with you that things are easier if you're not married with children. (Well, without children is definitely easier!). But, it sure would be nice to come home to a meal that someone else cooked for a change. Or even if someone else could just be in charge of fixing things around home, that would be great!” 11:29:23 AM 7/09/03 “that is sooo true. treebeard has been my biggest supporter. without him, i would never have even tried to do this. and to think it only took 15 years of pushing.” 11:36:06 AM 7/09/03 “SG! You want a guy who will cook AND fix things? BTW, summer is cooking season for me. Barbecue, barbecue, barbecue. Yum! Grilled Zucchini is the greatest!” 11:43:22 AM 7/09/03 “I got my acceptance to go to nursing school this fall. They accepted 14 credits from my college degree, so I will have to take only 53 credits, all in biology and nursing. So I will be pretty busy for the next two and a half years.” 9:53:32 PM 7/13/03 “Congrats! Have fun learning all that new stuff.” 10:04:17 PM 7/13/03 “Good deal LyndyS. There is a shortage of nurses, so be sure to look around for scholarship money.” 6:53:48 AM 7/14/03 “Seriously Pathman? I didn't think to look for scholarship money, since I am not a youngster. Where do I look? I guess the admissions people can give me some direction on this? I know that minorities have lots of foundations to look to, and I intend to look into that for my kids. But for me? Is there a foundation for educating middle aged grumpy ex-accountant housewives?” 12:55:32 PM 7/14/03 “Yep, LyndyS, you'd be suprised how many scholarships are available. Your department, or the financial aid office should be able to help you out.” 1:02:04 PM 7/14/03 “Congrats Lyndy. You have a good personality for nursing.” 1:08:59 PM 7/14/03 “Thanks Geobeet! I thought so too, ever since watching "One Flew Over the Cuucoo's Nest" (Sheesh, how do you spell that, it just won't come to me today!)” 1:12:59 PM 7/14/03 “You know, I was just kidding! I really want to be the kind of nurse that makes a bad illness or injury a little more endurable. I once went to the hospital for a miscarriage, and the nurses were so kind to me, it really helped, since I was an emotional mess at the time.” 1:41:30 PM 7/14/03 LyndyS “Check with the financial aids office they can help you some of the "ins and outs" of financial aid. Just don't tell 'em you're a "grumpy ex-accountant" they might want to move you right into administration! :-) Best and CONGRATS!” 3:32:21 PM 7/14/03 “ But for me? Is there a foundation for educating middle aged grumpy ex-accountant housewives?" Almost certainly. It is bad enough that companies like J & J are running PSA's about nursing.” 8:08:12 PM 7/14/03 “Hey Lyndys, check out that wack-job's book, you know, the free government money guy who wears the suit covered in question marks- I'm sure you've seen the commercials. They carry it in a lot of bookstores, and out of curiosity I picked it up once. They had a lot of stuff in there for women to apply for, so I dropped it like a bag of cockroaches. (I'm not getting THAT operation just to be eligible for some grants.)” 8:16:09 PM 7/14/03 8:19:30 PM 7/14/03 “An RN that I live with tells me that some hospitals will sponsor your education if you agree to work for them for a minimum amount of years. Might be worth checking out.” 8:55:42 PM 7/14/03 “I looked up "PSA" on google because I didn't know what it was, and several things came up. Pueguet Citron, Professional Sports Authenticator, and a container shipping company. But thanks Pathman for the google search you listed. I tried google yesterday but must have put the wrong search words in because I didn't find the sites listed under your search. Corporal Nasty, you should just try that operation, you might really like being a girl. No, reeeaaallly ....... Okay maybe not.” 7:11:30 AM 7/15/03 “Public Service Announcement. Sorry about that.” 7:13:41 AM 7/15/03 “I haven't seen the public service announcements. I have been hearing about all the shortages of nurses though. Since I know lots of people going back to school to become nurses, maybe the shortage will not be as bad as predicted. The new accountant for our school district was just fired because (we suspect) he wouldn't toe the line of raising a building referendum amount so the superintendent can build a more elaborate office complex. This type of thing is why I want out of accounting. The bosses always expect you to be the front man for their spending excesses and then they want you to take the fall when the s$&t hit the fan.” 7:24:47 AM 7/15/03 “I'm such a dork.... The school I'm returning to sent me a certificate of acceptence which I have now taped to my closet door.” 10:02:31 AM 7/24/03 “LOL! Yep, you're a dork! :) I am waiting on my transcript from my most recent college experience, so I can send it to the college I am contemplating attending. (Did you get all that?) Depending on how that transcript evaluation goes, I think I'm mentally prepared to sell my condo, quit my job, and move to the west side of the state. Keep your fingers crossed!” 10:27:57 AM 7/24/03 “Hope it works out for you!” 11:12:20 AM 7/24/03 “Good luck, Smiley Girl! I registered for my one class this fall. Most of the classes were full. There were only two courses that I could take that didn't require prerequisites (I was able to transfer credits for all the other courses), and for one course the classes were all full. So I register for the one class and the advisor yells at me about why I am only taking one class. Why does is seem that everyone working at the college except the people in my major are nice. Can I really get that unlucky? I just smiled and went on my way, but I wanted to yell back.” 3:27:34 PM 7/24/03 “OUCH OUCH I just made my first payment to school. well I guess that will be the first of many mnay more to come right? But school starts Sept 2nd. I am excited yet nervous. Boss bought me a pencil holder with my name on it. aw so cute :P so im going to enjoy the next few weeks before i start school.” 1:50:00 PM 8/12/03 “Why waste your time and money? Educate yourself. It's much more efficacious than paying $$$ to sit in a class and listen to cr*p from a professor who doesn't want to be teaching in the first place.” 1:57:11 PM 8/12/03 “Hey I'm ready, I paid the bill, got myself a trapper binder with paper, pocket thingies to hold handouts, and some pens that actually work, unlike the ones by the phone that only work when you are not under the pressure of recording important details which the phonecaller spews out at warp speed.” 1:58:00 PM 8/12/03 “Mutt is a hippy! Mutt is a hippy! Go finish harvesting some beans.” 1:59:44 PM 8/12/03 “mapes - How much did it cost ya? Mutty - I don't know how that would translate into "educational experiance" when going for a job. I've done'doing that right now and I can't compete with the peeps with that piece of paper (although I agree with ya!). I have a two year tech cert that hasn't gottne me close to what they promised me in school. bastards! I'll have to go back very soon, maybe as soon as the beginning of next year. It's something that I have to do in order to get paid what I should be getting paid. Sucks, I'll have to quit my job just so it doesn't take forever.” 2:01:52 PM 8/12/03 “Mutt I have known people that have gone to school for 4 years and still have yet to get a job in there field. But i am sure that I will NEVER get the job I want without this degree. Lyn, i swear all my notes at home are writen in crayons. LOL” 2:15:06 PM 8/12/03 “each credit is $120.00 this class is 5.5 credits. plus this fee and that fee. and that charge and this charge. yup, it's gonna be costly.” 2:23:58 PM 8/12/03 “Mapleleaf, there was an article in my paper about an 18 year old girl who was attacked (yesterday?)by a bear on a trail in Wayawanda State Park in NJ. Apparently the bear was not messing around but wasted no time in chasing down the girl. She elbowed him in the snout, and ran, hid behind a big tree and the bear actually looked around for her and then gave up. She lived close by, ran home and called the police. They are looking for the bear now, and have laid traps out. She supposedly had no food on her and the attack is described as one where the bear was intent on eating her, totally unusual in these parts.” 2:26:44 PM 8/12/03 “is that park near where we were going to stay?” 2:33:03 PM 8/12/03 “No I think that it is nearer to where Ice Tea is going to college. It is near the NY border in the center of northern NJ.” 2:38:01 PM 8/12/03 “must be nice. good on you.” 3:23:36 PM 8/12/03 “I tell my returning students the secret of getting their degree: Start...and don't quit. Several have come back and said that mantra got them through. It's worth it.” 5:05:10 PM 8/12/03 “Yah, but what about the poor parents of your first students? They've been paying for tuition for how long?” 5:07:35 PM 8/12/03 “Yes, Phil. I have found out the hard way that it IS worth it!” 5:10:43 PM 8/12/03 “Most schools have a policy that if you don't attend for two consecutive semesters, they are no longer bound by the degree requirements for your major and when you return you find that you've got farther to go than before you took your hiatus. Some colleges offer "matriculation maintenance" which you sign up for as though it were a class if you aren't taking a class in a particular semester. It keeps your degree track intact. Stay in and take as many classes as you can afford and especially look for Saturday classes for lab sciences. Took me 12 years.” 5:21:34 PM 8/12/03 Jump to Page << prev
