XC skiing anybody?
I'm going to be in the Pagosa Springs/Wolf Creek area of Colorado for the 4 day Thanksgiving weekend. I drop my teen sons off to snowboard and then go XC skiing, either touring on the forest service roads or the 10K groomed tracks right next to the ski area. Anybody want to go skiing?

The Wolf Creek area gets some of the best and earliest snow. Two years ago Wolf Creek had over 100 inches mid way by Thanksgiving. They are already getting some good snow.

Pathman, are you gonna stash the water on this trek?? lol

So, you gonna be driving up past Wild Rivers on your way? If you'd drive in to check it out... a quick run-through on the road... would think it'd take an hour at most.

For my Thanksgiving, I'm gonna go see stikmon. Amtrak'in it from Chicago. Gotta figure out how I want to get to Chicago: drive, bus or another Amtrak train? There's a station an hour from me, pretty close here in the hinterlands. LOL!

Think we'll be going packing. DO YOU THINK I CAN TRUST THE GUY?? Well, it won't involve a dry river and a canoe, I don't think. LMAO!!

Should get to try out the Thermarest. Thanks, Pathman!!! :-)

Little does Lizs know...
but I'm gonna stash the canoe in her pack inbetween the folds of her pink thingy that everyone has been alluding to...I don't think she'll ever notice as she never wears the pack anyway, being the true car camper that she is.

I'm gonna make a backpacker out of her, even if it kills her.

I confess. I am obsessed.

When we decided to move to Fairbanks my mother-in-law broke down in tears and cried that I just wanted to play in the snow. I didn't have the heart to tell her that was a fact.

Hey Pathman! How far is that drive from ABQ?

It took me 4 hours last time in good weather. The drive went quick after work. Went skiing Thanksgiving day, Fri, Sat and till early afternoon Sunday.

10K groomed trails at the ski area, several FS roads that are closed in the winter, used by snowshoers, skiers and snowmobiles. I didn't see hardly anybody on them. Lobo Lookout is a good half day, if you explore you can make it a full day. I skied up and down twice. Coming down the road is a hoot. There were a lot of people there, but it was a great veiw. Good telemarking if you are in to that.

Still doing this. New development is that the whole family is going up. That means I could probably fit in an overnighter snow camp, as I won't have to chaparone teenagers.

Yes, I bet the whole family is going up since Wolf Creek opened up this week with a 46inch base and a winter storm warning currently in effect. Snow baby snow!!!
