Anyone hike barefoot?View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 46 of 46 messages posted.
“Anyone hike barefoot? THERE IS NOTHING more natural than hiking through nature barefoot. The soles of your feet and toes are wonderful sensory organs and the myriad of feelings from earth, grass, moss, pine-needles, and mud are wonderful. Many could not see hiking any other way. HIKING BAREFOOT causes virtually no trail erosion since a bare foot makes much less of an imprint than a booted foot. A comparison photo is available. (I had to step hard next to somebody else's boot-print to make any imprint at all.) Bare feet are therefore the environmentally sound choice for hiking. www.barefooters.org/hikers. THE BAREFOOT HIKERS are groups of people who enjoy hiking barefoot.” 10:27:30 PM 11/03/02 “go all the way and hike naked!” 10:28:45 PM 11/03/02 “I tryed to tell my feet that and they got mad! 8p” 10:30:28 PM 11/03/02 “those "wonderful sensory organs" would work overtime when sharing a trail with horses” 10:34:57 PM 11/03/02 “Ya when the nice stuff they leave on the trail gets into them. I bet they love the feel of that! 8o” 10:36:14 PM 11/03/02 “Ever notice how when someone suggests you do something unbelieveably stupid, they tack on that "it's more environmentally sound" thing, like that's the only relevant decision criteria?” 10:39:37 PM 11/03/02 “June 21: official "Hike Naked Day"” 10:43:23 PM 11/03/02 Anyone Hike Barefoot? “Not anymore.......” 11:56:39 PM 11/03/02 “And how do I get my crampons to fit???” 11:58:19 PM 11/03/02 “Only if the trails are free of pebbles, rocks, twigs, branches and glass etc. My feet are spoiled.” 12:03:48 AM 11/04/02 Posturepedic Shock-Absorbers Are Bettter For You “Now why do you think indians came up with the footwear concept of moccasins???” 3:39:24 AM 11/04/02 “why buddur, that's easy. they were trying to save the trail.” 4:03:04 AM 11/04/02 “Whatever happened to 'Abo Dude'? (I think he got a shoe deal with Nike)” 5:59:23 AM 11/04/02 “Even most hippies wear some sort of footwear” 6:05:34 AM 11/04/02 “One would think that with wanting support for your ankles and such, that you WOULD wear something on your feet! Carrying all that extra weight on your body, and NOT having support, ...... something is bound to "give".... and not in a GOOD way either!” 6:12:10 AM 11/04/02 “only have hiked barefoot at Cumberland Is......on the beach....it is a peak experience for the feet!” 6:36:20 AM 11/04/02 “I'll bet no shoes is related to Vio...er, Little Bird. Maybe we could get Geobeet to try that link...” 6:54:53 AM 11/04/02 lol fatherG “there's an "official" hike nekkid day? dang, i miss out on everything!” 8:40:24 AM 11/04/02 “Careful what you wish for there, strat, it could get gruesome...” 8:45:43 AM 11/04/02 “you gotta point there..... i'll just dissapear in the upper buffalo wilderness area...” 8:48:16 AM 11/04/02 “Yeah, maybe Stikky'll let ya borrow his 'drywater' canoe, HAR, HAR!!!” 8:49:43 AM 11/04/02 “Traditionally on the AT, the day of the Summer Solstice (the longest day of the year, usually on or about June 21) is Naked Hiking Day. Not too many people follow the tradition, but don't be surprised to see someone in that condition if you're on the AT that day.” 8:55:32 AM 11/04/02 “Oooooohhh, there are just SOME places I could 'bare' to get 'skeeter bites...” 8:57:43 AM 11/04/02 Train for it “To hike barefoot, start out by putting stones in your boots. Gradually work your way up.” 8:59:00 AM 11/04/02 “So, Geo...ya try that website yet?” 9:01:02 AM 11/04/02 Trivia “What are the names of the twin sisters that hiked the entire AT barefooted? (I believe they went N to S)” 10:09:52 AM 11/04/02 “I can't remember MDS. I've seen pictures of them though. They went by the handle "The Barefoot Sisters". Hiking barefoot is fine if your feet are up to it. Most people's aren't.” 10:16:05 AM 11/04/02 “I thought it was The Singing Barefoot Sisters - famous for the the song "Dig a hole and dump a load". Trail names Isis and Jackrabbit. On the other hand the link just says The Barefoot Sisters and does not mention the song - sigh link : Barefoot Sisters I met them very briefly on the AT in Shenandoah NP in November as they were covering a section that had to be bypassed due to a fire the first time they came through.” 11:37:20 AM 11/04/02 “They weren't fire walkers too? ;) I've hiked with nigal when he went barefoot. He carried a small, light pack over one shoulder and hiked over rocks and roots, etc. There's nothing wrong woth doing things differently, or for the environment, or to increase your experience, sensory wise. I like running around barefoot. It does feel nice. I just don't have the foot fortitude to do it on the trail, plus I'm nervous about stepping on live creatures. I squashed a toad once, barefoot. I'm very careful about where I plant my barefoot now. =)” 11:45:55 AM 11/04/02 “I love being barefoot! Not sure I'd want to hike that way though.” 11:49:39 AM 11/04/02 “Nope.” 12:01:50 PM 11/04/02 “I forgot my boots once on a weekend trip. All I had was the flip-flops I left home in. I used them on the stones on the beach but I went barefoot when I got in the woods 'cause they sucked so bad. I did a part of the lakeshore trail in Pictured Rocks, from Grand Marais to the visitor center. I appreciated the "wonderful sensory organ" part. In the shade it's cooler. You can feel it when the trail is more damp. It's like ricing a motorcycle without a helmet. Lot of fun, but I'll be wearing my boots when I remember them...” 12:08:08 PM 11/04/02 “How does one 'rice' a motorcycle. Wouldn't it be better pureed? :D” 12:10:59 PM 11/04/02 “le Subtil must ride "rice burners"... j/k....” 12:14:17 PM 11/04/02 “I went hiking in the buff twice....after the worst sunburn in my life i gave that up....i used to hike barefoot sometimes....i dont know if i can after this foot thing anymore...strange...i finially buy a pair of good boots and i end up with a broken foot.” 12:28:19 PM 11/04/02 “argh...looks like bitpusher needs to be re-banned. 8) Sassafras, that frog thing is naaaasty!!” 12:29:55 PM 11/04/02 “ ”12:36:50 PM 11/04/02 “I'm always in need of re-banning...that has never changed, lol....” 12:37:25 PM 11/04/02 “ ”12:37:54 PM 11/04/02 “THA WOOKIE!!!!!” 12:40:07 PM 11/04/02 “I remember Nigal hiking barefoot. I remember he used a Wal-Mart sack for a canteen too. Go figure.” 12:49:19 PM 11/04/02 “THis is not possible in the CA Sierra. Your feet would turn to hamburger in short order from all the scree and rocks.” 1:54:23 PM 11/04/02 “Hiking barefoot seems like a good way to start posting on the Injured Reserve Thread and maybe even the Broken foot thread.” 2:14:33 PM 11/04/02 “no rich i only broke my foot when i STOPPED going barefoot” 2:19:25 PM 11/04/02 “I walk barefoot all the time, but hiking?? na!!!!! I don't think so!!!” 8:02:33 PM 11/04/02 “A few years ago I hiked up to the top of Croagh Patrick in Ireland and passed a young woman hiking up the mountain barefoot. For those who aren't familar with this mountain, it is very rocky, especially near the top where you have to use your hands in the scree for balance. You know, the type where you take 3 steps forward only to slide 2 steps back. It wasn't exactly warm either. One tough cookie.” 8:11:25 PM 11/04/02
