What adhesive did you use?
In very cold weather I use a closed foam pad with my thermorest pad for extra warmth.

I want to glue some velcro strips to the pads to keep them from slideing off each other.

Anyone done this?

What adhesive did you sucessfully use?

You can buy velco with the glue already on the strips (peel and stick) at fabric stores and probably at wally-world. It is made to stick to fabric and holds very well.

Can you slide both ends( top and bottom) into pillow cases? Then stitch or safety pin the case for a snugger fit. Just a thought.

I did this years ago and used contact cement. The tabs are still on there. The velcro tape won't work without the contact cement. They start to peel off so you need to contact cement them.

I don't think it will work. When you move around in your sleep it will pull loose and the sound of the Velcro parting will just wake you up. But keep us posted. If I'm wrong, I may go out and buy some stick-on Velcro.

Thanks,
I'll try the contact cement.

the sound of zippers keeps you awake geo?

if the glue doesnt work adhesive rtv sticks to anything, but you have to hunt for it (not caulk)

Don't
Trick I learned from a thru-hiker:

1 - get SEAM SEAL
2 - put down one pad on the floor and orient it in the NE direction, a Feng Shui princle
3 - hold Seam Seal with your wrong hand (if you're right-hander, use your left hand) for maximum squigleness_
4 - write the word "O W M O" big enough to fill the entire surface of the pad while humming "oWoo-moah...." and let it dry
5 - repeat step 3 and 4 on the other pad
6 - turn over both pad and repeat step 3 and 4.

That's all.

The idea here is when two surfaces treated Seal Seal (other brand may work too) cause lots of friction preventing them from sliding. Try it and if they slide, apply more Seam Seal.
It helps to hold sleeping bags in place too. Some hikers also apply Seam Seal on the tent floor to prevent the pad from sliding.

Sass gave me a good idea on time: Use the grippy things that are used on the bottom of the tubto keep you from slipping. She said it works great!

The tabs do work. I glued two tabs at the bottom of my Thermarest Ultralight and two of the velcro tabs on a Ridgerest pad. I also glued some to the Ridgerest pad so that when it was folded in half it would stay that way. They never peeled apart during the night when everything was velcroed together.

I actually like biertree's suggestion. I think I'll try it.

You need to apply new coat once in a while when the surface get covered with dirt or dust.
