why is it the most #&%!$ing about our government; our system; our elected officials and comes from the people who vote the least?

is this the 80/20 rule in action?

Thanks, Tilt. It looks like all the complainers have a lack of interest in these important events.

I appreciate the link and I'll have it tuned-in here. But, unfortunately, I'll be at the Golden Cue either watching or playing one-pocket pool (billiards).

Incidently, a partner and I spotted two others 9-6 playing one-for-one(alternate shooters) at noon today and beat them 3 games to 2. Elections are all too frequent. One must prioritize and, as you can see, a one-pocket pool game is quite high on my list. It felt good, since I've been in those mountains away from a table for so long.

Yup. Tonight's voter education night. At least this state provides info on all the various ballot measures (pros and cons), who the candidates are with statements, and gives you a blank ballot so you can just zip in and out of the voting booth.

That is tax money well spent, me thinks. All states should do that.

Excuses for not voting
Don't know about everyone else, but around these parts there are always more candidates than from the two major parties. Also, for the non-partisan offices, there are always a variety of candidates (liberal, conservative, moderate, environmentally-friendly, wacko, etc.). What about local and/or regional measures? No candidates there to complain about. I think we have about a half dozen local and regional measures and about a dozen state propositions this time around. Yes, it does take some effort to understand them - I guess that's the tradeoff for getting to live in this great country.

Sorry - being disgusted by how some candidates campaign is no excuse for not voting. If you don't like who's running, write somebody in. Or skip the people running for offices and at least vote on the measures. The low percentages of voter turnout is a major reason that a lot of folks from around the world hate us - they recognize (correctly) that a lot of Americans take everything for granted and don't appreciate how lucky we are to be able to do things like vote.

Personally, I think people who don't vote should pay double taxes or something. Well, not really, but it really ticks me off. Hope you non-voters never complain about anything the government does. You don't deserve to.

(Whew, maybe a little less coffee tomorrow afternoon....)

Agreed. I want people to vote but I think uneducated voters are even more dangerous.

Either get wise to the issues and vote or just stay the feck at home.

Sorry, I did not realize that this string was about voter education, voting, why the world hates us, and so on. I though it was about sitting up watching the numbers pour in after the election is over. As long as I am satisfied that the checks and balances are in order, I'll be at the pool hall. In the morning, which could be when I return home, I'll see all the completed returns at Tilt's url or link, in the report from the NY Times, the Chicago Tribune, the local news paper, on TV or just about anywhere I look. And it will only take a matter of minutes. That's what I was hitting at. What's the point to watching all the arithmetic as the results trickle in?

Tilt did say, "Results will be available on c-span.org for two weeks, until November 19."

Thanks again, Tilt, for the url and the rest of the information.

FYI...
Well, this started out as a purely informational thread, but you see how long that lasted, <GRIN>.

I do marvel at the vehement apathy.
