Update from Japan....

Check the links below for LIVE updates...

IF THE WEATHER GOES TO HELL WHERE YOU ARE... CHECK THE OTHER LINKS FOR UPDATES --- ESPECIALLY AROUND MIDNIGHT AND TOMORROW MORNING.....

Hello all,

Leonid peak come soon !!

I send you information of Japanese observed reports in Visual and
Radio Observation. Each detail Flash announcemnet will update
soon.

In Japan, almost of meteor was dark (3mag - 4mag.) until around
18th 18:30UT. After that, however, the bright meteors increase !!

I do not have received detail FLASH report yet. Some observers
reported me that HR around 30 - 40.

I will update FLASH report around 18th 23:30UT.
(by The Nippon Meteor Society)

On the other hand, Japanese Radio Observing stations are catching
long echoes. This flash report is not reported, too. However you can
see the LIVE Radio Observation on the web.

http://homepage2.nifty.com/~baron/leolive02.htm

I recommended Akita, Osaka(53MHz) and Aichi(28MHz) observing
stations. These stations provide great observed data.

I will update RADIO FLASH report around 18th 22:00UT.

Radiant rises about midnight here... I'll be heading out about then...

By the time I get to the location and get set up, the Moon should be a little further out of the way and Them Little Buggers should be flyin' (The Brighter Ones, Anyway!)

The upper air burst into life!
And a hundred fire-flags sheen,
To and fro they were hurried about!
And to and fro, and in and out,
The wan stars danced between
And the coming wind did roar more loud,
And the sails did sigh like sedge;
And the rain poured down from one black cloud;
The Moon was at its edge

[IMO-News] Leonids from Bosscha Obs, Indonesia
(looks like they saw some... not a Ton, but some... despite being nowhere near a prime location (wrong side of the planet, actually), first peak still 7 or 8 hours away, With the full Moon, And 60% overcast --- this is a good sign)

Hello,

In Bosscha Observatory (6.8 S, 107.6 E), in the night of Nov. 18/19 at the period 20UT-22UT we ( I and seven people) saw 22 meteors. The sky was covered by cloud up to 60%. At that time, the limiting magnitudo about 4. We didn't determined Leonid or non-Leonid.

I hope others have a clear sky.

Certainly Not As Clear As Last Year
It was clear all day, but just as dusk approached so did the clouds. Just came back in from outside and it is almost completley overcast (no stars at all) and the full moon can just be seen trying to shine through the clouds.

I know they're coming.
I just took a peek. Saw a beautiful moon, but no stars. Just a few airplane lights blinking.

Probably, i will see some stars during the next two hours. It's off to the Health Club, where I'll be testing for for the next level belt, blue, in bone-crushing (aikijutsu).

Thanks, treebait. I passed. The new blue belt is now my fourth belt (third advancement) in 21 months. Six months of class during that period were missed, while I was bp'ing. I still have a long way to go, but I hope to be able to continue with it the rest of my life.

Now for a look at the sky, some sleep, and then up early to see the action.

We are supposed to have a great view here in SLC around 3:00 am our time. I'm planning on heading up into the mountains and getting
A) away from city lights.
b) a little higher altitude , 9000 feet or so.
c) some great photos.

If I get anything good, I'll post them.

STUPID MOON!!! They're coming out of Leo at about 10 an minute but the moon is so frigin' bright you can actually read a book outside. Perfectly clear outside, 26 degrees, 7,000ft, and when there is no moon I can plainly see lots of detail in the Milky Way band just 3 paces off my front porch. STUPID MOON!!!

well, I wasn;t the first to post...
damn crazygurl...

I too was a bit disappointed...way too much moon knocked out my usually very dark skies. I staked my claim on one of the arkansas/missouri borders, right in the middle of the bridge crossing the St.Francis River. Clear views to the east and west for oncoming traffic, but at this early time, vision became unnecessary, I could hear the oncoming vehicles long before visual contact was made.

I was stretched in the middle of the road, on my back, with my face up to the heavens watching the sky cry its magnificant show, listening to the low sound of Andreas Vollenwieder, playing in my car. Even Khatru seemed to sense that something unique was happining, he was very subdued. We could hear coyote howling off in the far distance and the breeze made its whispering moans in our ears, It was quite charming.

I was not able to use my camera as there was too much light from the moon and oncoming dawn. Each falling star was drowned out in the light noise that my camera picked up, but it was a good show, and I'm a better person for getting up and witnessing this event. I'm now off to regain some sleep and to dream what I may. This night was a good one. Have a good day people.
