Man do I hate election days. All the crap leading up to this day drives me crazy. No more "I'm the best guy for the job because...", it all "Look at the poor job the other guy has done in the past, therefore I'm the better candidate..." now. It's like you have to vote for the guy that sucks the least. And frankly, the difference between candidates accomplishments a year or two after being elected is immeasurable and therepfore picking the better is relatively "six or one-half dozen of the other", imo.

don't vote for that guy, cuz he'll take this away from you....

they don't give you reasons for voting for them, they give you reasons for voting against the other guy...

We need some new parties. One pundit remarked on NPR that the Democrats used to be for the little guy. I think we had better candidates when the party bosses picked them in smoke-filled rooms. I swear the primaries pick the weakest candidates of the lot. You can't tell what they stand for because what they stand for changes with the tides. We don't get alpha dogs; we get the runt of the litter.

I say if the candidates don't get enough votes to equal a majority of the registered voters, then the parties should have to nominate new candidates. I don't even feel like voting. Neither party represents me very will. My interests and beliefs cut across party and ideological lines.

So I'm pretty much with you Buddur. SNL had a great recurring political campaign commercial where the urged voters to call candidate A to tell him to call candidate B to tell her that her position on whatever was blah blah. It was a hoot.

I may go cast another write-in vote. Buddur for governor! The he11 with Rendell and Fisher! Vote the straight Buddur ticket.

I'm just glad the politicians don't have my freakin' EMAIL ADDRESS.

We've been completely bombed with direct mail. No more political commercials on radio and TV!!!!

All you get is direct mail? We get freakin' phone calls with recorded messages, at least five a day! I got so ticked off at first I swore I'd not vote for anyone with a recorded message, but they all have one.

I hear ya, Sass!! Those phone calls burn me up! I get home at 6pm. I have three hours to make dinner, feed my kids, help them with their homework, bathe them and love them. These yahoos keep dialing in with recorded messages! As Dr. Laura would say, BASTARDS!!

It's sometimes hard to believe that the USA has the BEST system in the world! Think how bad it must be, where the political systems are not-so-great(?)! I'll bet that there are even places where the people don't even HAVE a choice! Oh, well, I guess it's like that saying about the weather... Everyone Talks about it, but nobody ever DOES anything about it!

I've had no direct calls, thank goodness, since I'm strictly a cell user. I'm so tired of the political ads on TV, though. If I have to hear one more commercial, I'm gonna choke.

But, I've got my voting done already today. I also really hate the campain-ers who station themselves outside of the precincts. If you're careful where you park, I found its possible to avoid them.

before i get on the metro in the mornings, i have to dodge at least 10 people per day, all trying to shove political flyers in my face. i really hate that with a passion.

I hit the polls early for a change, since I teach a night class today. I am counting on today being the beginning of the end for our jerk governor. But as Geobeet noted, the other party managed to use the primary to pick the weakest of three candidates to oppose him...though polls show even that guy beating the gov. What does that tell you about the quality we've got now?

One of the bigger Wisconsin newspapers, I think Green Bay's, wrote an editorial that, instead of endorsing any candidates, said voters should just vote against any incumbent -- clear the board and start over. Considering we are facing a $2.8 billion deficit and legislative leaders from both Republicans and Democrats indicted for influence peddling, some new faces couldn't do much worse.

As for ads, I thought it was bad in Wisconsin until I visited lower Michigan a couple weekends ago. Talk about nasty stuff being slung at Jennifer Granholm in the governor's race.

Heh Heh
Here in Pa., the attorney general set up a "don't call" list for phone solicitations, so I haven't gotten one phone call.

Now he's running for governor. He couldn't call me. How cool is that?

Yeah, Traficant is working the jailhouse campaign. Maybe if we put enough of them behind bars we can work up a chain gang to walk onto the floor for votes.

"Mr. President, the inmate from Ohio votes Nay!"

I voted by mail three weeks ago. I have never seen such an ugly campaign. According to the television ads only liars and crooks are running for office in Arizona.

Oh yeah... the Phone Calls...

I let the machine pick up for the last week-and-a-half!

Did you see Leno last night? He says, "What kind of negative ad can you do if the guy's already in jail???"

"SURE... Jim Trafficant SAYS he's a model prisoner..."

MaryPhyl, its not just in Arizona. Same thing in Michigan. Pekka's right, it has been an ugly campaign, and not just the governor's race.

You know they are talking about Wisconsin...
...when the news gives the following three reasons for probable low voter turnout on Election Day: Heavy negative campaigning, bad weather, and a late Packer game on TV the night before.

That is the actual explanation from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel today.

I have not been happy with this years election. I heard a hoot on the news on Sunday. The piece said that the canidates didn't want to run negitive ads, but they are just so effective. I'd like to see what they based that on...

Amen Mary, I voted by mail a few days ago, sure beats the lines at the polls. And yes, its been ugly. When was the last time anyone voted FOR someone, and not just against the greater of the evils?
Ldhiker

Ldhiker, Actually, I usually do vote FOR someone. The trick is to ignore the campaign ads. Those are geared toward people who are easily swayed by nonsense. There are many ways to find out what the candidates are all about. For example, there are two candidates for State Super. of Public Instruction here, but I didn't know anything about either one. One had listed that he is currently a state senator, so I went to the internet and was able to find out all of the bills he authored and voted for or against. Then, I called my cousins who are teachers, in order to get their opinion. All of this took about 10 minutes. It's not that hard to not be cynical, but it does take some effort.

Oh, and I kind of liked seeing a line at the polls this morning - better than being deserted.
