"Johnny Stechinno" w/ Roberto Benigni. You have to read subtitles but it's worth it. Trust me.

Okay, but...
remember I'm Canadian and a teacher. Try 'Teachers' with Nick Knolti, also 'So, I Married an Axe Murderer' with Mike Myers and 'Canadian Bacon' with (I believe) John Candy. ALSO (for the really weird) 'Eric the Viking' with John Cleese (you need to watch it a couple of times. NOT TO MENTION 'Wanda' also with John Cleese.

Enjoy.

laqtis, glad to see someone else is a fan of Big Trouble in Little China.

Also, from the good ol' days of sketch-comedy films, Kentucky Fried Movie.

Anybody ever seen After Hours? It's a dark comedy by Martin Scorsese with Griffin Dunne and Rosanna Arquette. Hilarious, but you have to like strange stuff.

I read somewhere that Scorsese made Griffin Dunne agree to abstain from sex for a few weeks before and all during filming so he'd have that "desperate" thing down....

Oh my God! Tilt and I agree on something. I'm gonna go puke.

Liquid Sky?...LIQUID SKY? Tinkledrinker you definitely have a warped sense of humor. I would list that under the most BIZZARE movies I've ever seen.

Liquid Sky
Eraserhead
Nakid Lunch

Now THAT would be a film fest.

A Clockwork Orange would fall under bizarre movies, good movie though.
What did anyone think about Eyes Wide Shut

Ewker, Kubrick brilliantly cast Tom Cruise as a shallow, naive, ignorant young man who finds himself in way over his head -- you know, type casting.

Like any Kubrick film, Eyes Wide Shut requires multiple viewings to get a full sense of what Kubrick was exploring -- which seems very appropriate for a film that takes a voyeuristic stance on sexuality.

Sorry for the double post -- my computer said it wasn't making a link the first try -- so I stopped it and resubmitted, but apparently at the same time it finally went through (with a slight modification).

Speaking of funny, though, my wife got me to watch Space Ghost on Adult Swim on Cartoon Network last night. Now that was a hoot.

Life of Brian,
Funny Farm,
Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss,
Harry and the Hendersons,
The Burbs,

Those are all the older ones I can think of right now that haven't been mentioned.

I saw Ghost Ship and although my roommate thought it was the stupidest movie ever, I though it was quite good. It perfectly matched the "Texas Chainsaw Masacre, Friday the 13th, Pumpkin head, ect" genre.

One of the best movies I've seen in a while is Pitch Black. Kinda strange, almost kafkaesque, but still quite good. I think that was the movie that made Vin Diesel.

Right-o, Pekka. When I saw who they had cast in "Interview with a Vampire," it was a dark day.

I wonder if someone saved some nifty outtakes for a "2001" DVD?

It was like rich people's snob porn. They had to justify the voyeurism w/ some kind of twisted, hard to follow story.

Believe it or not, it was actually based on a book. I don't know if the book had all the sex in it, but it was based on some old novel.

Well, I'm sure the book was better than the movie. I'd rather read the book, then watch Tom Cruise fumble around like a weirdo at a sex party!

EWS was a weird one, alright. i really liked the spooky, creepy, twisted parts...but basically, i ended up feeling like it was much ado about nothing (or at least not much). the Much Ado part was awesome, and fun to watch, but then...blah. i bet the main reason for that was that Kubrik's and Speilberg's styles do not exactly mesh, LOL! what a bizarre pairing that was.

or, a very real possibility is, i just don't get the movie at all...

I think it's just another example of the "Emperor has no clothes" syndrome. Stanley Kubrick was a highly regarded director, so he felt he could make anything and people would say it was good because, well, if you say Kubrick is bad, then obviously you have no taste. Let's face it, the movie was bad, regardless of how you feel about highly-stylized porn. There may have been some good parts, but by and large, it sucked.

I'm pretty hostile about that movie. For some reason I just hated it, maybe I'm like you Lyra, it was just too much and I don't get it. But there are plenty of other movies I didn't get or didn't get much of and I didn't feel some much wrath about them.
