I dont know what hurt worst, hearing the dentist say "yes Mrs. Septoff, I recomend you get braces" or

“I had both the plastic and metal kind...I don't remember the metal ones tearing up my mouth nearly as much as the plastic ones did. But, that was when the plastic ones first became available.

Childbirth tops brace pain, trust me.

My mom just got her braces off last year, she's 56. She has a gorgeous smile now. She used to look like a beaver. She had to have them as her jaw was starting to get all outta wack from her goofy teeth. She's glad she had them. I am too. It's nice to have pictures of my mom smiling now. =) BTW, she wore braces for 8 years in her teen years too! It could be worse.”

I got to wear the HEADGEAR! That was disgusting for a young teen! I kept "losing" my retainer once the braces came off. Then in my 30s I had to pay for a retainer to keep my teeth from moving back. I wore it everyday, til I left it in a restaurant. By then they were able to fuse the problem tooth to the next tooth with a single wire. I'm glad I did it. Its worth it when its over.

“Maple, I've had every kind of dental procedure you can imagine done. My first experiences w/ major dental work started at 8 and ended when I was 17. I have no good news for you on this topic. Pain, pain, torture, and pain. I had teeth pulled, periadontal (sp?, means the gums) surgery, braces, rubberbands, headgear, retainer, etc. The only thing I haven't had is dentures and I'll tell you what . . . it prolly would have been easier to go that route. Sass is right though, child birth is the ONLY thing that is more painful.”
