I'm noticing a change in your speech patterns.... How long were you in the Smokies?

Haha! Well I'm a country girl anyway, I'm from VA! They do talk a little differently down there, that's for sure. I was in the bathroom and heard these two women talking, and for the first couple minutes I thought they were from another country, based on their weird accent. Then I realized it was just a southern accent, some kinda crazy one I'd never heard before! LOL! Also I noticed they still get their hair permed down there. Awesome.

Seems like it'd be difficult to pull those short hairs through the cap for the perm?

pretty scary.

How did people from different parts of the country understand each other at all before mechanised travel and radio?    We've had decades to homogenize.... and I still can't understand WTF some people are saying!!

And now we've got Spanglish with a drawl.....

lyra was on foreign territory and didn't realize that SHE was the one talking funny.

We all talk funny to somebody, I agree! I just thought I'd heard southern accents before, and would easily recognize one...but I guess not! hahaha.

Those east TN folks talk funny to me too.

I knew perms were still popular here but didn't realize they were THAT popular. I have good friends that own a salon. I'll have to ask about this.

Speak for yourself. It has become apparent to me that I'm the only person left that talks normal.

On my first trip to Upp'uh New Hampster I stopped in a little store to ask directions and after asking the guy to repeat twice I thanked him and left, still perplexed.

That sounds like a crick or a brook.
